What is Sutak (Impurity)

Ritual periods during times of births (this is called Swanla) and deaths in a family, in which one is considered Sutak

Reason:

The explanation is derived from Garud Puran which is a dialogue between Lord Vishnu and Garuda.

It deals with present life and afterlife, it deals with the essential ceremonies required to be performed after the death of relatives and the consequences of not performing such ceremonies.

Its stated in the Garuda Purana that when the death of a near relative takes place within the period of Panchak, within one year, five members of the family can die if proper ceremonies are not performed after the death.

Such proper observances of the procedures before and after cremation means that the Preta (the soul of the deceased) reaches Param Gati .

It is believed that, upto the 10th day, the deceased still continues his relation with his house and surrounding. Therefore the deceased is termed as Pret, which means one who has departed, but who has not yet reached the decision of Dharma Raja.
On the eleventh day, Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and Yama are invoked, with Vishnu as the special witness. In their presence the deceased is offered pindas. On the twelth day sapindi karam is performed where a rice ball is chopped into 2 pieces. Another pind(rice ball) is put in the middle of the two pieces made earlier one. This middle pind is for the deceased (preth). All this is then combined and at this point the soul then follows the decision of Dharma Raja.

The relatives are then freed from the sutak and can then perform their daily puja. These rites are also sanskaras (antyesthi) on the soul to lead it to God.

Do's and Don't during Sutak

This is a period of ten to thirteen days during which the nearest family members do not perform their daily religious rituals such as puja, arti . During this period, Garud Puran is recited for the attainment of Moksha by the deceased/Pitrus. The bereaved family should neither offer nor receive gifts, should neither undertake nor conduct sacrifices.

Relation to CB:

It is just second day since Dadaji has passed away and they are talking about having RP puja for Dev. Today, they showed Dev and Radhika entering the temple. It is usually said that no puja should be performed during the Sutak. Dev especially shares the same Gotra as Dadaji and hence he and all the family members (including unmarried daughters who will again have same Gotra) will have Sutak. And how can one perform this RP puja during that time and also go to temple? More importantly, how is the whole family thinking of Dev and Barkha wedding?? How are they planning on doing that during Sutak while trying to break the bond created on the auspicious moment which comes once in 100 years?
Why the rush? Why not show the puja after 13 days? What are the CV's trying to show?
This show could have been nice platform to show the rituals to people who don't know about the traditions and rituals...but instead it is sad and disappointing to see incorrect things being shown...
Thoughts?

Thank u Anu..for this post...as a non Hindu really help me to understand various part of this religion from different members and from Raj...instead of CVS's. wrong and confused ,pathetic theories of those holy things.Really sad that how they are providing wrong information to the viewers of all around the world ...
In my religion we dont do anything for 40days if some one passed away ...it is strictly prohibited.. except pray ..nothing else..after the day of death we dont even allow to cook for 3 days...friends ,family provide the food for those 3 days for that family...beside so many unrealistic rituals now this CVS r thinking about Rajtilak ceremony.?..is this constitution of GOD? is that much important than mourning ?whats the rush? no comments from me...only😲
But only thing to say for those walnut brain script writers, and willy nilly production unit of this soap "SHAME ON YOU"
