when she told SDS she would report her to SS - IMO that was self-defence in response to a bully.
Ganga is presented as bright & intuitive kid. She quickly understood that SS is the only person that SDS fears so to her that was the most effective method at that moment ... but if you notice, SDS has threatened her numerous times after that but she never completely turned into a tattle-tale to go running to SS each time. ... and besides, SDS never did heed the warning as she continued to abuse her at every opportunity
To me Ganga is an enigma... at times she seems oblivious to the ramifications of her presence in TN... at other times she comes across as a self-centered kid who has tasted a higher standard of living and is in no hurry to go back to her old way of life.
I guess the confusion is because we're not shown if Ganga realises that marriage to SS means sharing a room & possibly her body with the old man...P wasn't exactly explicit when she was trying to explain to her 😛
