~NOT EVEN PROOF READ😆~

CHPATER 25

Being there . . . Part 2

"Take care of Meha" Geet said, "I'll be back soon"

"But--

Before pinky could even formulate a proper sentence, Geet was already out of the house.

*****

His heart thudded inside his chest as a ripple of excitement coursed through his nerves. His eyes darted around the place, trying to locate her, while he ran towards the orphanage. She wanted to meet him. Maybe, just maybe she'd decided to question him . . . What went wrong? He would tell her everything, and clear her misunderstanding regarding Meera meeting him. And as much as he knew her, she would by all means forgive him knowing the truth.

He was bloody selfish and he knew that, for even after knowing all too well the extent of hurt he had inflicted upon her, he hoped to find a way which would lead him back to her. He still wanted her all for him . . . could he be any more selfish? But he was human after all, and though he had hurt her he also knew only he could heal her.

They needed each other and no bitter past could alter this reality.

*****

She watched him running through the place, searching for her. His eyes had an emotion she couldn't decipher or more so did not want to acknowledge. She could read love and desire, hope and longing, fear and guilt, all in his searching eyes.

With heavy steps she walked towards him . . .

His back was facing her . . .

She stopped at a few feet distance from him . . .

He turned to see her . . .

*****

"You were right choti ma' I mean ma. You were right" Dev sighed, "Bro never cared for me."

"Had you not come to me earlier that day, I would have believed him that you were wrong." Dev mumbled as he remembered how before Maan had come to meet him that day in the hospital, Pammi had come to see him and had told him that she was his birth mother. She had said that his father had always loved her, but Savitri Khurana had forced him to marry Kiran. And when after a few years he had met her, he couldn't hold back his feelings and in the vulnerability which encaged them, they'd succumbed to their inner desires and so Dev had been born. She told him that his father wanted to divorce Kiran and marry her but Savitri Devi was against it. When he had asked why he was never told about it, she had replied by saying that so were the orders of Savitri Devi. A part of him had died when Pammi said that Kiran knew about it and she hated him. At once he couldn't believe it. He loved his mother, and although she did scold him and set rules over him, he knew she loved him. He had no idea what was right and if he should believe Pammi. She had then asked him not to let Maan know that she was here or that he knew about his parentage. He did as told by Pammi, for he wanted to know if Maan cared enough for him to believe him. But Maan had asked the police officer to beat him up. He knew it that moment Pammi was right . . . neither Kiran nor her son ever cared for him.

"He will pay for hurting you" Pammi bit out, her eyes narrowed into slits "Let the right moment come . . . He will pay hugely. For now I have to leave the city. He is much too absorbed in his guilt to realise I am out there free to cause more harm. I need to leave before he looks out for me . . . I love you son and I will be back"

*****

As her scent wafted past him, he whipped around to face her. His dark brown met her hazels and all hope which he had had dwindled away, now that he had read the same abhorrence in her eyes. He knew she hadn't come here for answers.

Her heart gave a little lurch when she saw the glint of hope in his eye vanish and thence being replaced by pain. For a fleeting moment her determinate staggered, but that was only a passing moment. She had come here for a reason . . .

"Mr Khurana" She said, without so much of an emotion. He felt a dagger cutting through his heart when he heard her address him with his last name.

"Thank you for coming here on such short notice" She said while he looked away to hide the tear which formed in the corner of his eye. Because of his one mistake, things had come down to being this bitterly formal between them.

"You think I am incompetent, a good for nothing women, right. Obviously you do. After all you must have had a reason to give me those papers. Sorry I was quite not so civil when I tore them and threw them onto your face. I shouldn't have done that. I am really very sorry" Her voice was calm, in a bitter way.

He closed his eyes, fisting his hands so tight that his knuckles turned white. Her words laced with sweet poison were burning his soul.

"Once you left and I calmed down and gave it a thought, I realise you were probably right in thinking that I am sort of a foolish weak woman. You had every reason to think so. I mean I understand, any indifferent man who watched a woman fall at his knees would think so." She spoke in rude and razzing manner yet her tone soft.

His nails dug into his flesh as he remembered Geet's heartfelt pleas, her crying face and her undying love. How had he become such a heartless monster?

"After giving it much thought I have come to a decision. I should certainly prove myself. That image of a weak, broken, love stricken girl which perhaps is how you see me, needs to be broken. Just wanted to let you know, I am staying back in MY hometown because why should I leave cause of some random stranger' who once upon a time broke my heart. I would not take my leave by the way nice meeting you Mr Khurana. Thank you for your precious time." she finished with a smirk.

He saw her walk away and he couldn't utter a single word. At that moment he realised, no matter what he did, he couldn't undo the hurt and so he didn't deserve her.

*****

Savitri Khurana worriedly paced across the living room, whilst waiting for her grandson to get back home. As the time ticked off fear gripped her soul. It was past two in the morning and Maan wasn't yet back. Earlier this day, she had got a call from Pinky informing her of the stupid . . . real stupid move by her grandson. What was he thinking when he sent those papers to Geet?

By doing that he had only made matters worse when it came to Geet and his relationship which was no better than dead already. But then again, Maan doing so was also a blessing in disguise. It made Geet stay back in Delhi. Geet had been gravely hurt by him even thinking she'd accept the bloody property but then this hurt had made her want to prove herself capable of starting over. She'd wanted to prove to Maan she could take care of her daughter, staying in the same city as him, but not compromise with the needs of her baby. She wanted to prove to herself, she could move on. She could face him anytime and not go weak. And so Geet had decided she would start afresh living in Delhi.

Although when Pinky had informed Savitri Khurana of Geet's decision to stay back in Delhi, she had been elated but upon being told the reason, she had been utterly disappointed with Maan's foolish actions.

Hitherto, All Savitri Khurana wanted was for her grandson not to make any further damage. Now that Geet would be staying in Delhi, she wanted Maan to not drive her away with his moronic behaviour.

It was then that she saw Maan walk in . . . and no sooner he hugged her.

*****

"You shouldn't have done that" Savitri Khurana stated.

"I know" Maan said, "I was not thinking straight."

"Pinky called . . . Geet is'

"Staying back in Delhi" Maan cut in.

"You know" Savitri Khurana exclaimed.

"I don't deserve her Dadi ma. I ruined her life" Maan cried.

'What are you trying to'

"She hates me and she should hate me but . . ." Maan got up and mouthed "I don't deserve her"

With that being said, he walked away and towards the attic.

*****

"Dev" he heard her soft voice whisper and instantly his head shot up as he sprung to his feet. There she stood, in front of him across the iron bars. He stared into her eye and to his horror he saw hatred and pain.

"I had to give you something . . ." She said as she opened her fist and he saw the black beaded necklace which signified their marriage. He looked at her utterly shocked as she came forward and bent a little throwing it inside the cell towards his feet.

"Ek sawaal puchna tha aapse Dev' Tara said, "One last question."

*****

She rummaged through her stuff, but couldn't locate her dairy. Where had she kept it? But then it was good she couldn't find it . . . she was anyway going to incinerate it. It was written by a girl, who wished to be loved by him . . . Now that girl no longer lived in Geet.

*****

He stood in front of her photograph which was hung on the wall, with his hand raised in mid air, as it to touch the frame but not quite touching it. She looked angelic with that smile. The twinkle in her hazels was forever captured in that frame but she had lost it long time back. And all so because of him! Self loathing and disgust seeped through his every sore, and all he could do was hate self. He wasn't worth her, he deserved hell . . . And hell would be a life without Geet. Hell would be to stay close to her and yet metaphorically miles apart. Hell would be to live with the brutal fact' Geet was suffering because of him.

His heart bled looking at her innocent picture as his fingers grazed her eyes over the frame. She was a God sent angel . . . So pure. She had a heart of gold and she had bestowed him the honour to safe guard that heart but he had only destroyed it with his own two hands. How could he do that to her? How had he become so heartless and cold and mean? When all the while his heart had rebuked him of hurting her, he had ignored that tiny voice of love inside him.

If only he could revert back what was done, he would do it in a flash. But that just wasn't possible. It was a bit too late for redemption but indeed he could at least repent. So what if they could never be . . . He would always be there with her.

*****

"Did you even for a moment think before using your dead mother's name in your ploy to ruin your elder brother's life?"

Dev had no answer to that. Quite frankly, yes he had been apprehensive about it but then again, he had to do what Pammi asked him to.

"Did you even once think by doing that, you were belittling her love' her upbringing"

"Tara trust me she never loved me. Savitri Khurana is poisoning you. Don't listen to her" Dev spoke in urgency.

"How could I ever love you?" Naintara breathed, "I feel disgusted at myself for you are the man I chose for a life partner. A man who ruined his own brother's life, a man who played with the dignity of a girl is my husband. You know how I felt knowing my husband is a bloody rapist. I felt my heart was literally set ablaze. I felt needles nicking my skin all over with the thought that I had been touched by your filthy hands, not once but countless times. My soul tore apart when I thought of the fact that I'd liked that touch."

"Tara please" Dev urged. "Believe me once I met you, I have never even looked at any other girl. I love you a lot"

"Does that lesson your sin? Does that imply you should be forgiven? Does that bring back the dignity of the girl whom you destroyed? You say you love me! But how can a man who did not even respect his mother love a girl? You used your dead mother's name in a filthy scandal of a lie. Did you not feel any guilt when you shamed her love, shamed the relationship of mother and son?"

"Close your eyes and question your heart Dev, if Kiran ma loved you or not. You know she did. You know it Dev. And then think about what you did" With that said, Naintara walked away from Dev for forever, leaving him to his new found guilt which would last him a lifetime.

Tara's words made him realise his sins and all his filthy deeds flashed in front of him. Meera's terror stricken and pained face . . . her pleas . . . What had he done? Dear lord! He had even tried killing his own daughter. He had upon Pammi's instructions gotten his baby kidnapped to be killed. It was God's grace that Maan had saved her. What if he hadn't been able to reach on time? Dev couldn't contemplate how he could have been so blind that he listened to each and every word that lady said . . . The only thing left to his sins was to be a murderer and if not for Maan, Dev would also have slaughtered his own daughter. What when Maan would find out that those men who'd kidnapped the baby were sent by him? Tara had said he shamed a mother son relation, what she would have to say to him when she found out that he even tried killing a day old baby.

He was doomed for a lifetime.

"If I stay here, I will pay you rent" Geet stated firmly.

"I am your friend" Pinky argued, "This is your house."

"Either I pay or shift the house" Geet ended curtly.

"You're impossible and insane' you know that Geet' First you can't wait to leave Delhi and now you want to stay back. Not that I don't want you to stay back, rather I am kind of happy with your decision but girl what the heck is this rent thing. Hell, why would you pay me for a house which isn't even mine in the first place" Pinky said it all in single breathe and soon as she realised just what she had said, she gasped looking at Geet's shocked expression.

Holy crap! Why did she have to be such a big mouth? Now great! What would she tell Geet? Whose house was this? Not like she would tell Geet that the pent house belonged to the Khurana's, and Geet happily stay here. Instead, Geet would first blast her, then interrogate her and finally storm out of the house.

"What did you just say?"

"Uh . . . what' yeah this house is not mine in paper . . . Actually, it is in papa's name' so it is his and uh . . . Um . . . dad loves you as his daughter and daughters don't pay rent to their fathers." Pinky tried to sound as calm and convincing as she could.

"Fine I will find another place to live then"

"You stubborn girl, Okay . . . You pay rent. Happy now"

"Yes"

*****

"Geet you prepare for your interviews me and Meha darling are going for a walk" Pinky said peeping in the study.

"Don't be late for dinner" Geet replied back.

*****

Meha crawled away from Pinky while she chased a beetle.

A car honked its horn as Meha suddenly came in front of it.

It happened in a matter of seconds. Running his way across the lane, he pulled Meha in his arms. His eyes widened in horror as he turned and saw the car just inches away from him. The car came to a sudden still, as the tyres squealed and . . .

Maan clutched Meha close into his chest as he wrapped his hands around her tightly and whipped out of the car's way just in time. His tendon snapped as he stumbled and fell onto the ground over his back. His heart beat raced as his hold tightened around Meha, pushing her into his chest. His head hit a stone which lay carelessly on the road. He could feel cold liquid oozing out from the back of his head but that was the last thing which bothered him. He lifted his head to look at the young girl in his arms. He ran his hands all over her, making sure she was alright.

Pinky rushed towards them as she shrieked "Is Meha ok."

Carefully holding Meha, he sat upright as he nodded "Yes she is alright"

*****

"You're bleeding" Pinky said as she saw the blood trickling down by the side of his ear.

"I am fine" Maan replied calmly.

"I see that, we're going to the hospital" Pinky said stepping forward, in an attempt to pull

"That is not required. Pink' I mean Ms Pinky I am absolutely alright"

"She'd be hurt you know, seeing you like this" That was enough to shut Maan. And so he agreed to so see the doctor.

*****

"You must be aware that Geet is staying back . . ." Pinky said softly as they descended down the hospital corridor.

"Yes" he whispered back.

"She is looking for a job... she says she wants a new start. In fact she has an interview lines up tomorrow in I guess some Shergil interiors. She's pretty mad at you"

He listened to Pinky in silence, not knowing what to say. His guilt weighed down on him and he felt himself drown deeper into a pit hole of darkness with not a glint of light.

"So what do you hope to do next?"

"Sorry"

"What next? You aren't possibly thinking of letting her go. I hope!"

"What are trying to say?"

"Well, in simple language have you decided on how you would win her back?"

Maan felt a bile rise up his throat as he felt suffocated in open air. His mistakes were too grave. "I Don't deserve her" with that said he strode away.

*****

"Holy crap Pinky, did you dump my baby in dust" Geet shrieked as she Meha's clothes smeared in mud.

"No, actually she crawled away from me and a truck was---

"WHAT" Within a moment Geet was standing next to her baby, checking her for any injury. She did not even bother letting Pinky complete her sentence. Only after she was fully sure that Meha was just fine did her heart beat slowed down and she glared at Pinky making the poor girl cringe with fear. Later in the evening Pinky told Geet that a good man had saved Meha just in the nick of time. Pinky had kept away the fact that the man was no one other than Maan, for that was what Maan had pleaded of her. Geet had silently thanked the stranger for saving her baby's life' her life and prayed to god to give him all the happiness in life, not knowing in the least she was that man's happiness.

*****

Maan met up with Mr Shergil and literally interrogated the poor man. Within an hour, he knew the names of each and every employ of Shergil interiors. He knew Geet was more than capable of getting through the interview on her own and he wouldn't stick his leg in between any way whatsoever. But there was a huge but, although he wouldn't help her getting a job he'd make sure the place she worked matched her standards. She was an angel and she would be treated so.

While Geet went through the interview he sat in the other room watching her intently on the computer screen. Like he had already presumed, Geet got through without much of a hassle. On the other hand, Geet was completely oblivious to the silent stalker who made sure remove any hurdle from her way even before she had the chance to realise it. He loved her from afar, she moved on trying to shut him out completely. Both of them suffering because of inevitable separation but no complain whatsoever.

*****

Running a hand through his hair he stood outside her house, fidgeting with the keys in his hands. Should he go ahead and open the door? Well, he knew it was immoral to break into her house but if he god damn needed to see her. He couldn't sleep, eat, think or do anything . . . he just had to have her in front of his eyes all the time. Call it his obsession, his insanity, or whatever else.

Throwing all logic and rationality or rather morality at bay, he pushed the key in and unlocked the door. He felt sickened with himself for having stolen the spare key (the apartment belongs to Khurana's) which had been kept in his grandmother's room.

Stealthily he sneaked inside her room, careful not to make a sound. He stood by the bed staring at the heavenly sight in front of him. Meha cuddled into Geet and they both lost in peaceful sleep. He went down on his knees and sat on the cold floor, next to the bed. With his one hand carelessly perched by the edge of the mattress, and the other laying by his side, he watched his two angels intently.

He was tempted to hug them close to him. He wished for to sleep next to them holding them in his embrace. But he had to do with watching from afar.

And so he sat there until dawn, before he sneaked out of her house.

His routine was set . . . he would sneak in at night, watch her sleep and leave before she woke up. Stay outside her apartment building until she left for work. He would then follow her around wherever she went, but made sure to stay out of her away. He would linger around her office building till the officer hours were over. Sometimes he did take a round of KC and kept himself updated about work. Maan was more than efficient to handle the business even if he didn't go to the office regularly . . . He had loyal employees.

Meanwhile, Arjun and Pinky left for Amritsar, with a dwindling hope that someday they'd see Geet truly happy. Aditya promised Pinky he would come back to her as soon as Maan and Geet got together. Savitri Khurana left for London, she couldn't see her grandchildren suffering but she also did not want to intervene. She wanted her grandson to set things right on his own, no matter the time it took him. Naintara joined a NGO and after politely refusing Savitri Khurana's request to stay back in the Khurana mansion, she shifted to a flat in Dwarka, New Delhi. She had also become good friends with the man she had met by chance in the temple, Rohan. Everyone's life apart from Maan and Geet was back on track.

*****

I know I had said next chapter will be the last one but sadly there is so much to write and I can't make it any faster. There are whole lot of open loops which need tying. So yes next chapter is not the last one, its second last. This time real second last and I'll be doing Live update for that in four-five hours . . . I need a break of a few hours. J

I have cut it as short as I could. Things might appear kind of rushed but I need to end FO so the things which I would have otherwise given as proper scenes from flashback I have instead dropped that idea and cut it short. BTW in case of any confusion . . . Dev is in jail and in the update Pammi goes to meet him there. I had cut short the meeting as much as I could.

And the teaser will come in the next update . . .

BTW guys the update is over 4000 words and m warning you i better get comments other wise i will murder maan and Geet (pammi is out there 😛) and not ever complete BSLS😈. And yes, loved reading each and every comment of yours, thank you so much for the input . . .🤗 My like button isn't working properly so i may have skipped liking one odd comment in between, but it's because of the network problem . . .😡😆

Guys I had been suggested an alternative to PMing a long time back. Like having an account on FB and posting the link there so the readers can get instant notification of updates. But I was quite lazy to make an account for updates alone but I realise I send PM's horribly late, at times after ten to fifteen days of updating do I send out PMs so . . .

This is the FB account, add it if you want to be notified for the updates. And no I am not stopping sending out PMs but I would send them once a week or so. Hope this works out.
