Welcome to the forums!😊

I agree with you that reality has not changed. But then this show has not even shown complete reality of child marriage! In reality there are no sensible or supportive people like Bhairon or Sumitra! Even if they are, it's just too rare especially in villages.

In reality child marriage is a very complex issue and very gross realities are associated with it. In some cases even 6 month old baby girls have been married off to old men!! Men try to force themselves upon girls even before they attain puberty. Many cases of 4-10 year olds married to 50+ aged men and getting raped at a very tender age!😲

It's not only Gehnas but girls even younger than little Anandi who are tied off to men like Basant or even Mahavir Singh!🤢

Even in case of kids and teens, parents don't exercise sense as Bhairon-Sumitra did! Rather there are cases (even till date) of 13-14 year olds becoming parents of 2-3 kids!!

The serial makers have been too clever. They even showed Sugna getting pregnant only at 18.

They either don't touch upon real issues or brush them off too quickly by just narrating about some old characters - like Basant's first wife, who was said to have died because she had multiple miscarriages since a young age.

They have not even shown much resistance to Anandi's school. Otherwise villagers protest a lot and even threaten their so-called ''leaders'' or respected headmen if their ''traditions'' are threatened. They've made her school more resistance-free and less prone to any challenge by shifting it to haveli under complete surveillance and care of family.🤪

Gauri's pain is only talked about. Otherwise they never showed the ostracism which she and her family could have faced after her marriage was annulled. Not even in a flashback of grown up Gauri!

The real issues in BV are quickly brushed aside in just a narration or fleeting mention. They are never addressed or shown in detail.

I don't think they have to please only in-laws or only show reality. If that were the case then we wouldn't have seen a Tulsi standing up against her saas. Or a Parvati going against her whole family to get justice.

In serials, certain regressive elements are kept and they are not made too radical so that older audience can't digest it. But they also show what ideally should be done or should happen.

BV has not exactly shown this! DS was shown to be very sweet towards Anandi after she saw her risk her life for her pota. But she came back to square one after Teepri poisoned her ears against Anandi. There is still no guarantee about how long DS' rock-solid support and sweetness will last for Anandi. Bhairon has some different ideas but he only speaks, he does nothing concrete.

They claim to be against social evils. But they have neither shown drastic effects of such evils, nor shown these practices fail. 😡

On TV and in movies, who will watch if they only show reality? They have a duty to show solutions and ideal way out. So it is not wrong to expect them to show a strong Anandi or a sane Gauri.🤔

Plus it is not just about married couples. I am also referring to this biased view of educated people, city people and unfairly showing modernisation in a bad light! How will branding educated people, college students or city dwellers as bad or characterless or pain in the neck or haughty show reality? Or make any segment of audience happy? Rural ones? Is it to give a sense of pride and glory to uneducated people in rural areas, that only their traditions and conditions are best or ideal. Others are immoral!🤢

An older generation than ours has patronised progressive shows like Shanti, Aurat, Kora Kaagaz, Thoda Sa Aasmaan, Rajni etc. They were even hooked to ultra-modern female characters like Tara and Saavi in Hasratein! And did not mind all these women's affairs or unusual choices of boyfriends or life partners. So how can it be assumed that people want to see only regressive and orthodox stuff now?😲

In reality, there are no people like Rancho of 3 Idiots or Mohan of Swades or if they are, they are rare. But don't movies show such characters? Haven't they shown angry young men in 70s, rebelling against society/law/criminals? And courageous women in films like Zakhmi Aurat, Mirch Masala, Mrityudand, Mother India etc.?

They have to show ideal examples and solutions. Right things are rare. Doing the ideal or right thing is also rare. But it is only for aspirational reasons that people love movies or TV so much. These serial makers can't be excused for justifying wrong stuff in the name of their version of reality.
