Chapter 2: A parcel.
Nandita was trying to convince Yudishnee to stop the secretive wedding she planned with Sarvesh. She met Sarvesh three months ago and he was the only man who turned with a wedding proposal to her. Why would she then refuse it? She has known many men in her tender age, some were boys that blinded her that they understood her but in the end she was being used. Some were men who were affectionate towards her but she failed to realise then they had nastier motive than the boys. How she wish that she could bury these days of her life? She was neither into drugs nor vices like gambling, smoking or alcohol. The only weakness for her turned to be the crave for sex.
People in the society have vulgar terms for girls like her. Yet Nandita never judged her, she fell the understanding she was looking for, she found in the sisterly love of Nandita. However, Nandita has her life too, she cannot be dependent to her, can she? During their three week internship at Actuarial consulting group on their summer holidays, Yudishnee met Sarvesh. He was a tall dark handsome man who was eight years older than her. He was the team leader on the project they were assigned. She loved the project while Nandita was assigned in another group. They hardly met in the internship that made her grew closer to the professional Sarvesh.
His eyes were as charming as the way he talked to Yudishnee. Initially when Yudishnee said to Nandita about Sarvesh, she hid the fact that they met in the working environment because she knew that she would be right to say to her that personal life must not be mixed with career. However she is of different opinion. Sarvesh was an amazing guy, when he proposed to her for a date, she did not blink negatively. It was hard to meet him because that day her dad was at home. Yet when Nandita is around, nothing can go wrong. Nandita asked permission to her dad that as they have to work on an assignment if she can be at her place for that night. Yudishnee promised her that she would come at her place which she did.
However, that date was of its kind. Warming and dreamy, might be the right words to describe the way she was left to feel. She felt a strong feeling towards this man. She has no idea whether it is love or perhaps the awe of the first time experience. He was an amazing gentleman. She wished that this may continue.
Two days before her internship ended, Sarvesh proposed to her as her girlfriend and promised her that he would marry her, he does not care on her past, he wants her all his as from that day. It was the happiest day that Yudishnee had. Nandita was happy as well. She felt through the words of Yudishnee that this guy is genuine and means what he thinks. Nandita asked her mother about it and she said with the age difference, the man must be mature. It relieved Nandita, They used to spend their Sundays together. However after two weeks of the relationship of Sarvesh and Yudishnee, it seemed that Sarvesh was not that man that he created his image to be.
Sometimes he was aggressive in their physical relationship. When Yudishnee thought that she would be happy to surrender in the love making consummation, she was disillusioned with Sarvesh's dark crave for sex. It was suddenly not different than she had been in. She was still submissive as long as Sarvesh was happy, yet things were changing gradually in the perspective of Yudishnee. Sometimes Sarvesh was talking in loud voice to her and sometimes Sarvesh was imposing on her. It disturbed Nandita more than Yudishnee. Nandita understood that Savesh is another male dominated man and she felt that Yudishnee cannot be the one to be crushed for a lifetime.
Yudishnee was still fine with the aggressive nature with Sarvesh. She felt that the tough image that can answer back to her dad. Nandita could sense that Yudishnee was blinded with the fact of ''security'' that is making her losing herself in an illusion. Nandita was feeling weird when Yudishnee started talking about Sarvesh's parents. She wondered what type of mother would drug her own son with sleeping pills. Sarvesh was not that cool person that he appeared to be. Yudishnee was ready to spend her life with such a man because she felt that she is secured.
This is when Nandita started having different opinion on this relationship. As long as she is here, she will not let her sister ruined her life by her own hands. She was ready to take high risk in their relationship but make sure that this wedding will not happen, especially when last week Sarvesh's ex girlfriend met them and said to them that how Sarvesh forced her to abortion.
It is a world where gender equality is encouraged, how will then Nandita let Yudishnee walked in this mirage blindly. As Nandita belongs from a peaceful and lovely family, she is optimist in life. The beauty of life forced her to reason Yudishnee to stop walk on the dark. Worse was that Yudishnee and Sarvesh were having a secretive wedding. Nandita felt no sense at all on this act. After their wedding, Yudishnee was supposed to go and live at Sarvesh's parents itself as he has not yet even built a house. It was no way for Nandita would let her to do that.
''Sis, he would take care of me,'' replied Yudishnee.
''dishu,'' Nandita pleaded, ''I love you so much that I cannot see you ruin your life,'' she added with teary eyes.
''dits, it is my life and you are crying,'' Yudishnee was amazed to see someone who cares for her so much. She feels the girl she becomes, this care is undeserving.
''Sis, I am not probing in your life but I can feel it is not the right decision.'' Nandita replied firmly.
''He will kill me if i don't turn in this wedding,'' Yudishnee decided to reveal the truth.
''Yudish, sweets, he will not do that, first of all, your dad is still here, you know he does not love someone else to torture you and Sarvesh was supposed to give you the happiness you felt deprived of here rather than being in the same situation.'' Nandita said to her.
''Yeah,'' she said knowing that Nandita was right.
The door rang.
''Are you expecting someone?'' Nandita asked her because she knows that today Mr Anand, Yudishnee's dad was on night shift.
''Nopes.'' She replied.
''wait, I will look who is there?'' Nandita proposed.
Yudishnee nodded.
When Nandita reached at the door, she could see a parcel slipped. When she opened the door, she could not see anyone.
''Yuds, you have a parcel for you,'' Nandita said to Yudishnee.
''Who is this from?'' Yudishnee asked.
''Someone addressed you as dishnee. Was not the way your mom called you.'' Nandita said.
Yudishnee had a heart beat skipped. Nandita was right but why would her mother send her something.
''dits, please open the parcel for me.'' Yudishnee broke in her fragile words.
Nandita nodded. They were in the kitchen and when she opened the gift sheet wrapped, she saw it was a diary. There was a letter attached to it, read as:
''Dear dishnee
This is the only thing I can give you, my diary, your mother's experience. I am sorry for everything I did to you and everyone who thought right for me, I wish that you can read my diary and understand me. By the time you will get the diary, I will be already leaving this body. I have always loved you, my daughter.
Yours unlucky mother
Arohi.''
Nandita had tears in her eyes because she felt that Mrs Arohi was not a bad person like the image she projected to. Yudishnee was in tears too.
''What should i do,sis?'' she asked feebly.
Nandita hugged her.
''let's read this diary sister. May be you will get all answers you were looking for,'' Nandita suggested.
''I won't,'' Yudishnee said with these devastated looks, ''you knew well she kicked me out from home,'' she added.
Nandita empathised the pain of Yudishnee, it was the reason that she projected a bad image of her mother and yet she always wondered that the sweetness in Yudishnee must come from either parent's genes.
''sis'' . . . . .
