yes very serious! physics is required for CAT scan, MRI scan, -- it is also required for orthopedic surgery -- to know at what angle to set broken bones etc.

@Tinoo , is that more of the biotech person's job, i mean lab techs have that covered up, my flatmate here in London is doin MS but she doesnt study physics probably different branch. But thanks for the nfo , i just thought the whole studying scene was too contrived , have never seen a med student sleeping before midniht and saying its too late, have no idea how Jaggu became a doc.

Hi charminggenie --

yes, there are lots of things that are lab tech jobs, but doctors are trained about the fundamentals of how the machines work for the scans and ultrasounds etc. Just like doctors will not actually examine urine or blood samples - that is the job of the lab technician -- but they have a thorough understanding of the process.

In case of surgery - eye surgery, or orthopedic surgery, doctors do the calculations. They cant plunge into the eye or set bones without being aware of the physics of the surgery.
