Friends, next two weeks we are on family holiday so I am not sure about the schedule of updates. I will try to update as and when I can.

Next week we are out of town so I will have limited net availability. So no GHSP, Reading FFs and updating either. Hence I am giving you an update today and tomorrow. I will also try to update over the weekend before we leave.

So please bear with me and do press the like button and comment. I try not to get disheartened by less than 150 likes and not even 10 pages of comments from 300 PMs.

Chapter 60 – Session One

Maan entered an empty clinic. Geet noticed the question on his face – "I requested Dr Mehta for absolute confidentiality especially because of your celebrity status. I did not want any one to know about this."

Maan was welcomed by Dr Mehta at his cabin. It was a warmly lit room with couches and coffee table. Whole place had a comforting feel to it.

Dr Mehta was a middle aged doctor with an affable demeanor. He stretched out his hand – "It is really nice to meet you Dr Khurana in person."

Maan gave a small smile taking his extended hand – "You can call me Maan"

Dr Mehta nodded. He looked at Geet – "I will take it from here"

Geet smiled and left his cabin to wait for Maan in car. Maan followed Dr Mehta and settled in an easy chair.

Dr Mehta – "Will you like to have something to drink"

Maan was very uncomfortable with the whole idea of talking to a psychiatrist. He was doing it out of respect for Geet and just wanted to get it over with.

Maan – "No thanks…I am in kind of a hurry"

Dr Mehta continued unperturbed as he had seen all this many times before in his career. Geet had told him about his preference to coffee – "That's ok Maan. I think you should take some coffee and relax"

With that he got up and started to make coffee for both of them.

Dr Mehta continued – "You know Maan please feel comfortable. I know you don't like being here so let me assure you that I am not trying to get into your head. Just spend and hour or two with me and then make up your mind. Moreover just take it as a man to man talk"

"I am not much interested in talking and why should I be doing this talk with you anyways?"

Dr Mehta chuckled – "Simple. Firstly because I can't judge you and even if I judge you I most probably will not meet you after this so how does it matter what I think. Secondly as a doctor you know very well that sometimes it is important to step away from the situation to be objective and I can easily provide that objectivity as I care a damn about how you feel. Last but not the least; Geet is paying me lot of money for my time. So rather utilize it…hmmm"

Saying this he sat down looking piercingly at the man trying to avert his gaze and focus it on the tea.

Maan - "Ok…shoot what do you want to know…what happened?"

Dr Mehta – "oh no!!! no need for that Maan. Geet has already filled me on as to what happened. I know it is her version of things but at least I know the background"

Maan finally looked as Dr Mehta straight – "So then?"

Dr Mehta – "As I said, I am just here to chat. So tell me do you feel you could have done anything different in hindsight to avoid this situation?"

Maan was startled by the question. He was not expecting this. "What do you mean?"

Dr Mehta – "I mean did you have any indication that something like this might happen?"

Maan thought for few seconds. All the incidents before Karwachauth flashed in his mind including when Annie had mentioned about the proposal. Maan curled his fingers into fist and closed his eyes in anger at himself. He knew it but he didn't do anything about it.

"I had inkling that she was interested in me. I have been too long with girls to recognize that desire and lust and still….I didn't….didn't so anything to stop her."

Dr Mehta noticed his anger on himself – "Hmmm…So, did you share that with anybody"

Maan opened his eyes–"Yes, I did tell Geet but there was nothing we could do. She was her cousin and I just tried to avoid her as much I can. Especially once I knew of the proposal"

"What proposal"

"Her mom had got a marriage alliance for me"

"Oh I see…so knowing everything also, you did not stop talking to her. Why?"

Maan - "As I said she and her mom were important to Geet. We just thought we could resolve this amicably without straining family ties"

Dr Mehta smiled - "So in hindsight also there was nothing really you could do about it…isn't it."

Maan suddenly felt very exposed with that statement. It flooded back the moments just after he had woken up in that bed…naked. He spoke defensively – "I don't want to talk about it anymore"

Dr Mehta noticed the changes on his face. "That's fine. Can I ask you a question though" Without waiting he continued – "It must have really hurt for your own parents to not trust you?"

Maan sat quiet.

"I can not imagine your pain of your own family deserting you in such a moment"

Maan did not like the tone doctor was using for his parents. Yes he was angry with them but he knew it was not their fault. He argued back defensively – "That's not true. They were quite understanding."

Dr Mehta knew his insecurities about himself and his past. He prodded further in the same harsh tone – "Really, what if this was someone else like Rahul…someone with no past…who had no girlfriends before…a clean slate"

Maan was lost in deep thought – "They would have reacted the same. Probably Pari would have slapped him instead of dad….things would have been worse…definitely worse for him"

Dr Mehta – "Hmmm…well then I guess you are lucky to have such a caring family."

Dr Mehta stayed quite for some time letting Maan absorb what he had said. Maan stayed lost in his thoughts processing what he had heard. Since the incident, he had shut himself. Even after Geet revealed the truth, he had not spoken to anybody including Adi. So really it was first time, he sat analyzing what had happened with someone else.

His own words about Rahul getting worse boomed in his head. It felt like as if shadow of his past was leaving him taking away the feeling of unworthiness and shamefulness it brought with it. Tears glistened in his eyes thinking about pain his family had gone thru and the love they have showered on him trying to make amends for the behavior which was more than reasonable during the given circumstances.

He was jarred from his thoughts but Dr Mehta's next question – "I am curious to know though then that why you had a vial of cetrozyn in your pocket"

Maan answered grimly to probably the easiest question till now– "It was in case I could not walk on the path I had chosen. Incase I failed again"

Dr. Mehta raised his eyebrows - "Oh!! and what was that?"

Maan noticed the man's expression. "It is not as you think. It is the hardest option of living a lonely and remorseful life….dying was just easiest"

Dr Mehta still did not sound convinced. "Really, so what is your ideal option?"

Maan was surprised – "Ideal?"

"Yes ideal"

Maan said without blinking his eyes – "Keeping my Geet happy….always"

Dr Mehta smiled – "Oh yes!!!! Your Geet!!! By the way, it is already one hour. Why don't we continue this day after tomorrow? Also, I hope you won't mind if I ask Geet to join in next session…now will you?"

Maan just nodded and walked out to the car where Geet was waiting for him. Dr Mehta smiled that Maan had accepted to come again. He just hoped that tonight he will be able to reflect on his own words.

Geet silently drove Maan home. Though she was dying to talk to him but on Dr Mehta's insistence left him alone to his thoughts. In no time they reached KH. As he got out she told him that she will pick him up again same time day after tomorrow.
