Her in-laws could have taken her to their house as Pratap's widow. But one reason they did not take her was also her pregnancy. They felt she had strayed and it was someone else's kid which the Singhs wanted them to take care of, in the name of Pratap's child! They felt she had lost her izzat before marriage and such a fallen girl could not be taken as widow also.

Sugna was never interested in studies. But she never did anything useful too. She was only in mourning, depression and doing household work or staying alone. After much persuasion from family, she got the right to live in the house and mingle with family.

She was scolded by the whole family for this blunder - getting pregnant before gauna, very shortly after Pratap's demise. In fact, her penance as a widow was relaxed by DS also because she was pregnant and couldn't be left in such harsh conditions.
