Dev sat there giving his ears to dadaji, as if Dev was eagerly waiting for his dadaji to open up his mind in front of him without any force, or plead.
He saw the tear drop rolling down from his dadaji's eyes, but then within fraction of seconds it gave way to a small forced smile.
Dadaji: you may be thinking what this old man is saying ,right? Nothing beta, for a second, my mind went weak, but never thought if I go weak then my daughter will go weaker than me. All this time she was my strength, she never showed those sad or painful expression in front of me.
...No, once when her mom left us, she cried loud, but then when she realized her brother also left us without saying a word, she saw those helpless eyes around us, the consoling soles surrounding me. She wiped her tears that day and took me out from that crowd, and she asked me to look at her, and realized that she is there with me, she made me to feel that I am not alone,...
... around that time the real world started fading in front of maaji too. She loved telling stories which was her passion, and she smiled all the time, kids started coming back to haweli, and that brought life back into our life. Sushma walked and acted around as if nothing happened, and she mingled and made us to mingle with everything , and I got back into my old self.
...When Radhika came to our house she brought more colors to our life, Radhika was just like a daughter to her with whom she shared a friendly relationship than a motherly affection, or maybe vice versa, i don't know.
...She made my son to come back to Chandenpur, which he left because of shame. And once again I was lucky to see his smile, his happy family, my mom, and I am blessed to have her with us.
...And when my daughter broguht all these to me, how can I go weak at this time , right? I need to learn from her, she was my strength, and I want to be her strength now, and I will be.
Then holding onto Dev's hand which was resting on his lap, the old man said: because when it becomes dark out, it will be only us inside that big haweli. I don't want to leave her into that darkness alone.
Dev listened, without questioning, each word from his dadaji's throat, reached into his inner mind and it just got copied as it is inside those quenching mind.
"Dr, Shankar wants to talk to you"
Dev raised his head to look at the nurse's face.
Dadaji suddenly taking his hand off from Dev's hand, wiped his tears off, and then got restless to get up
Dev helped him to be on his weaker feet, and supported him by holding his shoulder
Dadaji looking at the nurse gave a smile: The grandkids always think their grandpa's are very old, right?
The nurse just smiled and walked into the room.
Seeing them coming in, Sushma: Babuji, tell the doctor I am fine, that I need to go home.
Dadaji looked at the Dr., so do Dev
Dr.Shankar: we need to do some more tests, and we don't think this is the first time happening with her.
Sushma trying to cut off Dr.'s talk: this is the first time, I told you, or ask anyone
She was getting frustrated
Dev looked at his dadaji
Yeshpal: are you saying this is not happening with her the first time
Sushma: babuji
Yeshpal: you are right doctor, then as if recollecing: it happened years back, when her mom died, around that time, then confirming himself: ha, she went unconscious.
Dr: and at that time what did you do?
Yeshpal: that time
Sushma: nothing, why you are asking babuji, he was into other things, few ladies sprinkled some water over my face, and I woke up, that is it.
Dr: is that true.
Sushma looked Dr's eyes on her babuji: why you are questing him, I told you, I was just fine, I felt little dizzy, that is it. I told you I was fine, this is the first time, and this time, I think Dev got frightened that he brought me here, otherwise I should have been fine at home only.
Dr: ok, then he looked at Dev who was standing by as if all that is happening around him is new to him, all those who are interacting in front is new to him.

Dev looked at Sushma and then babuji as if asking their permission to take that step forward.

Dr looked at Dev and walked out. Wihtout making any sense, Dev also followed him.
Yeshpal turned his face to see Dev walking out, and then with a doubt, he called: Doctor
The Dr. stopped and looked at babuji
Babuji: I can come with you, Dev is my grand son and he just visiting, and it is me who will be with her, so I think it is better to talk to me.
Dev paused and then looked at the doctor's face helplessly
Dr looked at both of them in confusion
Babuji: he needs to go back to Delhi tomorrow, so if it is regarding any medication you please tell me.
Dev did not interupt his babuji, and stood there like a obedient boy.
Dr looked at Sushma and then looking at Yeshapl: ok fine, please do come
Yeshpal: beta, be with Sushma, ok. I will be right back.
Dev just nodded his head and walked back near to the bedside.
Dr went out with babuji. Dev listened to Sushma's complains for bringing her to the hospital, he heard how hospital people will drain the blood and fluids from ones body, how they will do all those experiments with ones body. Dev listened partially trying to catch up with what he is going through in that moments.
His cell ring
Dev: buva, one minute.
He went out from the room, talking to radhika
Dev: ha radhika, I will be coming late, no,... no, they are not here yet,... ha, ha buva is doing fine, she is arguing with the doctor to get the discharge, ...ha, but Dr wants buva to stay back another day or two for some tests,... no no he is talking to dadaji,... ha ha, I don't know, I will call you back ok.
By then Mohan and Rohini showed up
Dev: babuji
Mohan: Ha beta, how is everything going
Dev : Dr. wants to do some more tests, so he asked buva to stay another day but she is not agreeing.
By then Yeshpal came in
Mohan: babuji, what the Dr. said
Yehspal: he said nothing to worry, he just wants to do few tests,
Mohan: then what is the delay
Yeshpal: no , so the result and all may come little late only, so for her safety they are
Rohini: let me try to convince sushma, syaing that she went in
Dev: did the Dr. say anything else
Yeshpal: no beta, just that
Dev thought in mind, he should have told that in front of us all, why he had to call me out then.
Time passed by as Mohan and rohni was ryring to convince Sushma.
Dev sneeked out softly saying that he needs to make a call.
Dev went in search of the Dr. and came to know that he left to attend an emergency situation.
He waited for few minutes, and then went back to his room.
Time passed by, and Surender and all reached the hospital. The talk and discussion went on.
Dev stood silently, the time ticked by.
As if remembering Dev went again to see the Dr.
Nurse: he left already.
Dev: can I get his number please
Nurse: now Dr. Prakash is in charge, he knows, do you want to meet him.
Dev: no , actually Dr.Shankar told me to call him, and asked me to get his number from here , so only
Nurse with doubt: did he say so
Dev confirming nodded his head: ha
Nurse: ok then, one minute
Dev with a relief: thanks
Sammy came near: Bro, you need any help
Dev: one second Sammy, I need to make a call, will be there in few minutes
Sammy: ok Bro
Dev went near a empty place and dialed the number
Dr. Shankar: hello
Dev: hello Dr. I am Dev, we just met, and you asked me to
Dr interupted Dev: see, what is wrong with you guys, those two are sick, and you people are don't even care about them, and wants to go back from wherever you came, that also tomorrow itself.
Dev: sorry Dr. I don't get it
Dr: don't tell me you don't know anything. I was going faster and your dadaji was walking behind me, and by the time I reached my room I got a call form Dr. Pandey, do you know what he told me?
Dev: please
Dr: first of all you tell me, do you really care about them
Dev tasted the bitterness in his tone, so he mumbled : ji
Dr: then those two needs medical attention, especially your dadaji, or at any time, you are going to lose him.
Dev went in shock: what are you saying Dr.
Dr: your buva is stable at this point, but if possible meet Dr. Pandey and tell him I send you to meet him, and listen to him. I will also call and let him know.
Dev: I am going to meet him right now.
Dr: ok then , you can find him in cardiac department. Ok
Dev: ji
Turning off the cell, Dev wiped off his face.
He walked faster to the cardiac department, and as Dr. mentioned looked for Dr. Pandey and soon he read the name board, and went in after a knock.
Pandey looked at Dev and asked him to sit.
Dev: ji vo Dr.Shankar told me to meet you
Dr. Pandey looked at Dev and asked: so Mr.Yeshpal is your dadaji
Dev: ji
Pandey: then why you didn't bring him back
Dev: ji?
Dr. Pandey: one month back, he has been brought ino this hospital. And it was a massive attack. We did the emergency care and asked him to undego an emergency surgery, but he said he has his daughter all alone at home, so he will go and bring her with him. He convinced us. But I don't know what happened in between ...he never came back. I am surprised to see him today following Dr. Shankar. And from his look I can say he didn't go anywhere else , nor he took care of himself.
Dev stood there with frozen body, trying to absorb everything in.
Dr. Pandey: I think maybe he has some reasons that is why he kept it to himself or maybe we failed to convince him the seriousness of it , but we tried and we explained everything to him, and we even broke the limitation to explain it to a patient as he was alone, the person who brought him here left after we took charge , so I think you should talk to him now, convince him. after pausing few minutes, he said Think about it and let me know ok
Dev: ji
Dr. Pandey: is his daughter here too?
Dev: ya she is
Dr. Pandey: so she is the one whom Dr. Shankar is seeing
Dev: ji
Dr. Pandey: anybody else?
Dev: ji, my dad , and mom is here
Dr.Pandey : ok you talked to them, I will be leaving around 10, let me know if you need any more explanations, whatever I told is very little information only as I want to know about your stand point, so .
Dev stood from the chair: thanks Dr.
Dr. Pandey: you welcome Dev, but let me know as soon as possible.
Dev was about to walk out, he stopped: Dr
Dr Pandey looked at him
Dev: my mom is a doctor too. Can you talk to her once
Dr. Pandey: please, that's what I said, I am here, let me know, but he needs immediate care.
Dev:sure Dr.
Dev's legs were not touching the mosaic floor, it was just floating up to get near his fmily.
Sammy met him on the way
Sammy: Bro, what is it? Tell me
Dev looked at him: Thank you Sammy, you are here with me, and we can make it. Come with me.
Sammy followed Dev and Dev called his mom out saying Radhika wants to talk to her, and Sammy called out the men in the room with another excuse of a hot tea, leaving Dadaji, Rohini and Sushma in room. Dev guided them to Mr. Pandey , on his way trying to explain vaguely about what he heard about his dadaji from Dr. Pandey

Those who interested to know Dev's behaviour, why he didn't take initaitive, why he didn't question dadaji, why he simply listened, why he let his dadaji follow the dr. alone: the answer is , he never interacted with his dadaji that closely. Dadaji tried to talk to him once prior to his U.S journey, but Dev never tried to close that space which formed between them prior to their meeting (during that first parts of this story). He knew it is his dadaji, he loves his dadaji but that affection, it should grow from within, and for that Dev need time, and interact with his dadaji alone... thanks for reading..
also Dev heard so much, don't expect him to spit everything out to the world, he surface out only those which is needed for the moment and the rest will guide him later to follow his heart.
