PART 8
"You need to stop kissing me!" Geet said flustered and out of breath.
"It's only a kiss. And you are my wife. I can kiss you whenever I want to." Maan said with menace in his tone.
"Exactly in which century are you living in Mister? Marriages do not work like that anymore. You cannot just go around and impose yourself on me." Geet retorted back.
"From what just happened a few minutes back, I can tell you enjoyed the kiss as much as I did so, if you want to put charges against me Angel face, too bad it's not gonna work." He gave her a sly smile, a wink and walked out the door.
Geet touched her lips and thought about the sudden passion that overcame her. It wasn't right and it wasn't normal. She did not even know the man. He was her husband, maybe they both have very low regards of the vows they took, but still she couldn't completely ignore the vows. They were sacred vows, and even though she was brought up in New York, her father instilled good values in her too. Maybe she does disregard those values every now and then, but marriage was not a play. She decided she would sit and talk to Maan about their future, and he will have to talk no matter how unwilling he was.
Maan walked out of the apartment and took his car to a nearby park. Delhi was a busy place and it was hard to find a place where one could just sit and think. He needed to clear his head and so he sat on a bench near a pond, where he could see ducks swimming. He wondered how life would be if he was a duck, instead of a human being. That is exactly when he saw one of the ducks get out of the pond and walk towards him with its wobbly feet and quack at him in an ugly tone. Frowning at the duck, he quickly changed his mind, human being was definitely better.
Looking around the park he saw adult teens playing soccer and children playing in the child play area. His life was never so simple. He thought about Geet. She was so beautiful. When he was around her, his senses seem to stop working. And he did not like it one bit. He liked to know he was in control of his life, but with the Angel around, he didn't know how his own mind and body worked. He reacted to her every move. By now he could even say if she was in the room without even looking at her. It was like a sensor fixed inside him and the alarm would only go off when Geet was around. And when Geet was not around, he only thought about her. This was frustrating him and he needed to know why Geet affected him so much. It wasn't normal for him.
He had women in his life, lots of women. But the way it was with Geet, it wasn't like that with anyone else. Was it because he was married to her? He asked himself. All he wanted was his life back the way it always was, just him and his serenity. Geet was the storm that suddenly erupted out of nowhere and was creating havoc in his quiet and peaceful life. He needed to get his senses back and he needed to have his life back in control.
Geet and he were both independent individuals, and all they needed was to sit and talk. He didn't know what he exactly would tell her, but all he knew was they needed to talk like mature people. Clearly there was a sexual tension between the two, no doubt on that, but apart from that they both needed to know the boundaries of this relationship, set up ground rules. Probably this marriage meant nothing to her, as it did not mean anything to him. Atleast trying to converse with her would help both of them get to know each other better and live in tranquility under the same roof.
He drove back to the apartment and entered his room to find Geet sleeping on the couch. He had been gone for a long time, and he lost track of time while he was delving deep in his own thoughts. On his way back home, he did grab some food as he knew she would not have cooked. She probably did not even eat anything after the morning breakfast. He cursed himself for starving the poor girl. It wasn't her fault; he was going crazy and losing control around her. It was him who had some problem and she did not really do anything. Now that he looked at her sleeping, he realized that she hadn't done anything to irk him up since the time they landed in Delhi. She just took in whatever way he treated her. Sighing, he went near her and woke her up.
Geet was awakened by a sudden tap on her shoulders. She opened her eyes to see Maan standing infront of her with a packet in his hand, which looked like a take away package of some restaurant. So he did bring food for them, she thought he would be starving her to death. She chuckled at the thought of him starving her to death by locking her up in this small apartment.
"What?" Maan asked confused.
"Nothing." Geet replied back.
"So I brought you some food thinking you might just die out of starvation and I don't want to be jailed for homicide." Maan said trying to lighten the atmosphere a bit.
Geet cracked at this, she laughed so hard that she fell off the couch. Maan was lost in her smile. His angel, staring at her he couldn't help but smile himself.
"Did you know that the entire day I thought you would starve me until I died and then you would get rid of me." She laughed after finishing.
"Is that what you think of me? Me being some murderer or a serial killer?" Maan inquired.
"I don't have much option right? I know nothing about my husband." Geet stated.
Maan sat on the couch then pulled her up from the floor and made her sit beside him. He gave her the food and she relished. Seeing the gleam in her eyes on seeing the food, he could tell she liked Chinese cuisine.
"Tomorrow morning we are going somewhere. Be ready by 7 am." He said that and left to retire for the day. Cursing himself for not talking to her like he had planned to before coming home. While she was eating, he couldn't bring himself to speak, so he thought that rather than telling her, he would show her what he was all about.
Geet watched as he left from there without or so even giving her a backward glance. She sighed. There goes the conversation. Moving her head in negative, she went back to concentrate on her food. She was famished, and she relished every bite. After done with eating, she freshened up for bed and lied down beside Maan. Both of them slept as soon as they hit the bed, emotional turmoil does wear one out.
"Where are we going?" Geet asked Maan on their way to wherever he was taking her.
"You want to know your husband, so your husband is showing you what he is." Maan replied back.
Geet looked at him perplexed. After waking up in the morning, she had been excited that he was taking her out somewhere. First she thought maybe he was going to show her around and let her get acquainted to the new place and teach her some of the local attributes. But now he was saying something else altogether. He was such a mystery, and this mystery somehow acted like a gravitational pull for her towards him. It was only natural to get attracted to a person of the opposite sex who was so mysterious and gorgeous at the same time. She sighed and looked ahead on the road and studied her surroundings. Everything was just so different from where she grew up. And she loved it. It felt like home.
Geet saw Maan take a turn and drive into a narrow alley. She gulped. What if he did bring her here to murder her? She started to sweat. The place looked spooked and deserted. There was a big rusty gate he was heading towards and Geet had goosebumps with the sudden feeling of chill. She was scared now.
The gates were opened for them and she saw the place looked like an old garage. So maybe she was going to be killed in this nasty place. She started to think exactly what weapon would he be using. Maybe a gun? Or a knife? The thought of getting stabbed itself was choking her. She opened the windows of the car to get some fresh air. Geet saw Maan take a sideway glance at her and she could swear she saw a smirk. Maybe he was thinking of ways to kill her. She didn't want such a painful death. If he did want to kill her, why not just poison her and she could maybe die in her sleep. But bringing her in a secluded place and then using torturous weapon for a merciless death, which certainly wasn't in her wishlist. Geet had always wanted to die old, and she was too young to die. Maybe he wanted to run away with all the money her Charles gave Maan to keep her with him. And he certainly did not want to keep her as a baggage so he was getting rid of her on his own. All the while she wanted to scream for help, but she couldn't seem to find her voice and she hated it. Not like anyone would hear her in this place anyway.
Maan parked the car along with several other cars parked there and Geet finally realized that they were not the only one present inside that area. She was even more scared now. Maan got out of the car then went to her side and opened the gates for her to step out. Geet was shaking with fear and couldn't even move. Maan waited patiently for a few seconds then grabbed her hand and pulled her out forcefully.
"You look scared. Don't worry Angel, I won't eat you up alive. I will first kill you then eat you all cooked. I don't like raw stuffs." Maan joked.
Hearing that Geet ran for her life. She couldn't get the sarcasm in his tone and she made a run for it.
It took some time for Maan to register what just happened. Suddenly realizing Geet was trying to escape from him, he made a dash after her. Geet heard footsteps behind her and tried to run even faster, but Maan was quicker and his long strides helped him get to Geet faster than Geet's short strides could help her get away from him. He got hold of Geet's arms and pulled her towards him. Maan dragged Geet to a corner and pushed her against a dirty wall.
"What exactly do you think are you doing Geet?" Maan asked her fuming with rage. Before she could say anything he continued, "You wanted to know about me so I brought you here and now you are running away from me? What's that supposed to mean?"
"It's supposed to mean that I don't wanna die in your hands." Geet said now screeching at the top of her voice and wanting to get passed Maan again.
Maan cornered her against the wall again and told her, "WHAT? DIE IN MY HANDS? WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPLY HERE SWEETHEART?"
"I am trying to say that I know you got me to this creepy place to kill me." Geet frowned at him and was scared at the same time.
"Come again." Maan said.
"I know you want to kill me." Geet repeated.
Maan thought he just got struck by a lightning bolt. This girl was crazy. He looked at her shocked. There was not another person in this world who could take Maan by surprise, but his Angel has never failed to surprise him from the moment they got married. But to actually think he got her here to kill was outrageous and so he LAUGHED.
Maan was laughing. Geet was stared at him, her mouth hanging open. From the moment she first laid eyes on him, she had never seen him give a full smile, let alone laugh and now he was laughing like a crazy person. Maybe because he never laughed, it sort of looked weird. He was better as Mr. Frown, rather than laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" Geet asked annoyed.
"You thought I got you here to kill you! Are you insane?" Maan told her still shaking with laughter.
"What?" Geet couldn't quite register what he was saying. If he hadn't got her here to get her killed then why did he get here in this spooky place?
"Aaah Angel face, as much as I would like to give you credit for, you are much more foolish than that. That was totally outrageous. I am no murderer, I am a fighter." Maan told her.
"A fighter?" Geet asked even more confused.
"Come with me." He said then took her hands in his and pulled her with him inside that garage like place.
On entering she saw there were a lot of people fighting? Girls and boys alike, some were punching bags, some were doing pushups and sit ups, some of them were in a fight, some practicing kick boxing and some having a boxing match. Geet was CONFUSED and she didn't understand what was going on there. She looked at Maan and Maan looked at her and decided to clear all her confusions.
"Yes I am a fighter. I fight for a living. And I am in charge of this fight club." Maan finished.
Geet looked at him shocked. So this was the so called big mystery about him? Her husband was a fighter. Suddenly she could feel all her dreams of a Prince Charming crash down on her and the Universe laughing at her. Time to see reality, she was the wife of someone who fought with other people for a living. For now all she could think about was, finding her stepfather and killing him.
