Donal Bisht Recalls Choosing Sony Show Over Yash Raj Project: "If I Had Done That Film..."

Donal Bisht has opened up about a lesser-known phase of her career and revealed how an unexpected opportunity changed the course of her professional journey. In a conversation with Telly Talk, the actress spoke about being shortlisted for a Yash Raj project before eventually making her way into television.

Donal recalled that she had gone through nearly one to two months of auditions for a primary character in the Yash Raj project. After clearing three to four rounds, she reached the studio for the final look test. However, just when she was close to landing the project, she received a call from Sony informing her that she had been selected for a television show and that shooting would begin within a week.

“I got a call from Sony saying, ‘You are selected, and the shooting starts in a week.’ I didn’t understand what I should do,” Donal recalled.

The actress found herself caught between the two opportunities and decided to seek advice from the Yash Raj team. She explained the situation to them, following which they checked the details of the Sony project and confirmed that the offer was genuine. They then encouraged her to take up the television show as it was a lead role.

“They told me, ‘You go and do this show because it’s a lead. After that, whenever you want to come back to us, come back,’” she shared.

Donal now looks back at the incident as a significant turning point in her career. She feels that the guidance she received from the Yash Raj team played an important role in helping her take her first steps towards television. “In a way, Yash Raj has actually got me into TV,” she said, while expressing gratitude towards the team for supporting her when she was still finding her feet as an actor.

The actress also believes that every career decision comes with its own lesson. According to Donal, choosing the television opportunity at that stage may have helped her grow and become more confident as a performer before taking on bigger projects.

“Maybe at that time, if I had done that film, I wasn’t that good an actor. Maybe my career wouldn’t have progressed in a better way,” she admitted.

With years of experience behind her, Donal now feels more secure about her craft. She believes that the experiences she gained along the way have given her stronger foundations as an actor.

“Now, when my grounding is better and my roots are strong, whatever I do will happen in a better way and will be more lasting,” she concluded.

What initially appeared to be a difficult choice eventually became an important stepping stone for Donal. The decision to take up television not only shaped her career but also gave her the opportunity to grow as an actor before exploring new avenues.
