Now, the latest news on that front is that Bhavana has been replaced by Sukanya Kulkarni in the show. She entered the show as Gangubai in yesterday's episode. We speak to the new Gangubai aka Sukanya Kulkarni about her role and more.
What made you to choose the role of Gangubai in Odhani?
Not many people know that I was the first choice to play Gangubai by Swapna Joshi Waghmare, who is a good friend. When I was offered the role, I was busy with my Marathi show, so I couldn't take it up. Now, I am done with my work, and when Swapna contacted me again, I agreed. I am playing such a character for the first time in my career, and I took this up for the experience of the role.
What do you think about replacing Bhavna Balsaver?
I was unaware that Bhavnaji was playing this role. She is very good actress, and I have full respect for her. Later, I found out that she was having some date issues. I hope the audiences accept me in this role.
What peculiar characteristics of Gangubai do you like the most? Why?
I like her disciplinary way of living life, but at the same time, she is very eccentric; she is someone who loves to wear sports shoes on a nav-vari sari. Then, her typical style of talking is fascinating. There is a reason as to why she is so strict and doesn't let boys and girls stay together.
Have you encountered a character like Gangubai's in real life?
Not really, but my maid is somewhat like Gangubai. She has a typical sense of humour, and she is very strict with her kids.
Have you had any experiences as a paying guest?
I was born and brought up in Mumbai's Shivaji Park. Luckily, no paying guest experiences for me. But I have seen my friends in this industry who came from Pune, Aurangabad and other places, and stayed as paying guests. I really admire them for their courage to stay away from their loved ones.
How is it shooting with young actors like Karan Tacker and Yashashri Masurkar?
I have shot for the show for two days now, and all the young actors on the sets are very professional towards their work. Gradually, our friendship will grow. Currently, I am friendlier with Yashashri aka Khanak, and having a good time with her.
How have television shows changed over the years?
They have changed drastically. Earlier, we used to work three days in advance of telecast, but now, everything is cut to cut, which I think is not fair on the actors or crew. It becomes very hectic for actors to shoot, and for the unit too. Perhaps that's why the quality of scripts is depleting. Everyone is busy looking at TRPs and racing with their shows, but not working on content.
What do you like the most about Rang Badalti Odhani?
I like the freshness of the story. It's a family-oriented show with youth flavour, which is quite interesting. I am happy that there is no rona dhona in the show.
What do you think of Shaan-Khanak as a couple?
They are made for each other. I just want to wish them best of luck in their journey.
