In my opinion, yes.

If it's all about searching the most beautiful girl of the year, then I have nothing against it, but the winners also get instant access to many important world affairs when many others had to work hard to achieve. So, the beauty pagent winners should qualify only as models and actresses and if they want to be something else, they should work hard like some other girl to get success.

I don't think beauty pageants are all about beauty!!! It is about self-confidence and self-respect!!! If it is all about beauty, then why is that the one I aways find prettiest is not the one who wins!!! It is also about the interview which is very important!!! And besides, women do them because they are comfortable with the whole idea and they know not to feel bad that they didn't win!!! There is more to a beauty pageant than being beautiful!! Trust me, I know!!!!!!!!

Ok, I personally think that it is an exploitation upto an extend, but then again, if girl chooses to go in this profession its her and her family's own choice and I think she should be responsible for explaoitaion, consequences whatever!! I don't think there are women who are sent in this profession by force. So why should outsider discuss if it's an explitation or not, 'coz that's what they have selected and they should be responsible for it. If they think it's exploitation it's their choice, if they think it's not well good for them!! 😕 'coz i think it's hard to change the whole system and I think every profession have people getting expolited all the time some profession has obvious exploitation and some places its subtle. I would rather admire women in beauty pagents who have guts to be bold and enhance their talent with all these hardships and people who can be really mean in this industries. Not all people have guts to do that. it's a challenge to be in glamorous world and keep your esteem high!

okay!!!....firstly what do you mean by exploitation.....to me exploitation is taking unfair advantage of someone for one's self interest. the biggest question then is who benefits from these contests and at whose expanse. i am sure that finally the judges, viewers do not benefit much(other than leering at the skin display.....). the organizers, sponsors may reap some benefit but in present age, it is not hard for them to get similar visibility at same expanse elsewhere.in my opinion it is the participants who benefit the most...they not only get a taste of the glamourous life, tips for maintaining thier edge(beauty, confidence ...etc...in i remember right in last miss india contest all the participents had the benefit of personal consultation with renowned nutrionists, makeup specialist and personal trainers), make contacts with celebrities and a chance to launch thier career in bollywood, modelling and gain some visibility both nationally and internationally, at times snare rich husbands(forgive me for my cynicism but it has been known to happen)....ofcourse there is a price to it all(your body and life is at public display).remember a certain miss india who was rumoured to be married??...whatever the truth she was no rolemodel for any one or a woman of substance (miss india's underlying sentiment) so as to speak.

so where did the notion of exploitation came in to start with...it dates back to few years back when indians believed in covering the body and the swimming suit round(used to determine bodytone, grace in walk and confidence ) made the participant very uncomfortable and embarrased(normal viewers equated them to racy, vain , shameless women). also there were rumours of sexual harrasment, judges making passes and participants being forced to sleep around . this further added to the prejudice against the contest. in present days none of this issures are a factor.people are very comfortable with the swim suit rounds. people adore them instead of becoming prejudiced.as for passes and sexual harrasment....like it or not these days it is the participants who seem to be the agressors and initiate the relationship or chance of one night stand for a chance at winning.might i point that most participants in these contests spout big ambitions (success in medical profession, architecture) and lofty values (active interest in international politics and charities)on stage, an year later they are busy baring all on silver screen. in comparison i have seen very few miss usa's take a detour from thier careers and end up in hollywood or change thier causes. also they are extremely more talented than any miss india i have seen on stage yet.

the point is that no one is exploited(though there might be some tainted history in that respect) in these contest these days. every participant is aware of what is required of her and what will be her reward.she makes the choice and pays for the consequences(if any).
