Paan Baa is seated in a chair worried, Dushyant is in shock. Jamna tells Paan Baa what is wrong if Kesar loves Gulaal, instead they should be happy that without pressure Kesar is willing to accept Gulaal, else nowadays youngsters do not believe in such rituals, whatever Kesar did was right, but Paan Baa did the wrong thing by letting Gulaal leave despite knowing Kesar's feelings. Dushyant says that they cannot decide right and wrong in this manner, even if they believe that Kesar is not wrong, his manner of communicating it is wrong, first of all he made a joke out of marriage, now he did the same with a feeling like love due to which Gulaal had to leave.
Why is Kesar at fault? Why does nobody call out Gulaal the saint? And who is Dushyant to speak of right methods? Dushyant continues that Gulaal did so much for the family, and now she has to leave the house, Kesar is not grown up that much that he can take independent decisions, he should have consulted the elders before taking such actions.
I cannot believe they keep pointing fingers at Kesar - did Gulaal, the cause of this whole charade, consult anyone? Gulaal is the one who has made marriage nothing but a big fat joke. Dushyant leaves.
Jamna says that she doesn't understand what has happened to everyone in the house, instead of explaining to Gulaal everyone is behind Kesar, everyone is trying to prove Kesar wrong, every time Gulaal cannot have her say, when she wanted she did deeyarvattu, when she wanted she tried to break it, without asking Kesar she tied him into a marital relationship, now when he is completely bonded with that relationship and wants to fulfill it Gulaal left the house, doesn't Kesar have any right in this? Paan Baa tells Jamna that what Kesar wants cannot happen, Gulaal will never accept him as her husband, on one hand is Kesar's madness, and on the other Gulaal's stubbornness, she doesn't see any way out. Jamna says that Gulaal will have to leave her stubbornness and accept Kesar, deeyarvattu is not new to their community and family, Paan Baa also did deeyarvattu... Jamna stops when she sees Kesar who just arrived. I absolutely love Jamna, and all her past mis-deeds are forgotten. She is the only sane person in that house. I always find her to be the voice of society, since clearly that family has its own rules and look at how messed up they are.
Kesar comes there with tears in his eyes and looks heart broken. He bends down and sits next to Paan Baa's knees and says sadly crying that Gulaal left, Gulaal left everyone, she left, and puts his head on her lap and weeps bitterly. Paan Baa cries too seeing Kesar so vulnerable. Jamna looks like she actually feels bad for Kesar, she actually feels bad for someone who she didn't give birth to. But then she rolls her eyes... oh well.
Poonam is happily getting gifts and ready to leave, and thanks God. Gulaal's father prays that Kesar and Gulaal do not get the evil eye. Gulaal comes there, everyone is shocked. Poonam tells her that they were just about to go to see her, but ask her what is the matter when they see her luggage. Gulaal tells her that she cannot accept Kesar as her husband, so she left that house forever. Poonam loses it. She asks Gulaal if she is mad, does she have any idea what a big mistake she has done, day and night they pray for Gulaal's happiness and she is ruining it herself, if Gulaal thinks that she can leave her in-laws and come to this house then there is no place for her with her parents. Gulaal feels hurt hearing this. Gulaal's father asks Poonam if she knows what she is saying, Poonam says that she is saying this as her mother, Gulaal will have to return to her house. Gulaal refuses saying that she will not go back, and if there is no place here then she will leave that house as well, and goes to leave. Her father stops her and sends her inside with Reva.
Gulaal's father scolds Poonam and tells her that Gulaal is very stubborn, she will die but not return to that house. Poonam tells him that he is encouraging her, he responds that he is dealing with the situation, Gulaal is being immature, but Poonam should think this through, if Gulaal lives with them at least they will be able to explain things to her and get a chance to send her back, knowing Kesar he will definitely come to take Gulaal back, he has complete trust in that. I like how much Gulaal's parents trust Kesar to do the right thing for Gulaal. Its such a big thing for a girl's parents to have so much trust in their son-in-law, and I feel proud of Kesar, he deserves for people to see his good side.
It is night, Kesar is sitting in his room gloomy and sad. Paan Baa comes there with food and asks him to eat, he has not eaten since morning. He takes the plate from Paan Baa's hands and lays it down, then holds her hands, looks into her eyes and says he wants to ask her something. I adore Kesar and his directness - I love how he doesn't beat around the bush. Everyone else in the family is so bothered about what to say how to say except Jamna and Kesar. Kesar continues that he wants a response from her not as a mother but as a woman. He asks what is wrong in his loving Gulaal, the community has accepted Gulaal and his relationship, then why is it wrong? Is it that he is younger than Gulaal, or that she is Vasant's widow, has no man before him loved a woman older than him, has nobody ever loved a widow, Gulaal has never seen him as her husband, but everyone knows that after the deeyarvattu he has always seen her as his wife, even though he did not understand the relationship between husband and wife back then he always wanted to marry Gulaal.
Without knowing his side his deeyarvattu was done, they all made him and Gulaal do pooja (prayer) together, she fasted for him as well, all that was right, but when he said that he loves Gulaal that is wrong, why is it wrong, all he did was love, and that also his own wife. Paan Baa is quiet, is hurt but doesn't know what to say, all this love talk is going above her head. Kesar asks her for an answer, what did he do wrong by loving Gulaal. Paan Baa says that how should she respond, this relationship has become a puzzle, she doesn't have a solution, all she knows is that between Gulaal and Kesar an innocent girl is stuck. Kesar declared his decision, Gulaal hers, but nobody thought about Talli who's life was dependent on both their decisions, Kesar is asking questions, but what about Talli's questions. Kesar feels bad hearing this. Why doesn't anyone send Gulaal on a guilt trip? Kesar ruined only Talli's life and that also because of Gulaal, but Gulaal is ruining 3 lives - Talli's, Kesar's, and her own. She is used to living like a zombie, but she ruined Talli and Kesar's lives with her decisions. Everyone feels bad for Talli, but what about Kesar, just because saint Gulaal is involved doesn't mean they have to keep mum about her faults.
Talli flashbacks to the conversation between Kesar and Gulaal when he tells her that he doesn't love Talli, and his talks about why he cannot free Gulaal from the deeyarvattu. Kesar comes there, Talli turns to leave when Kesar holds her hand and asks her to stop. She refuses to listen but he insists. He tells her that he has not come to apologize or justify because he knows that whatever he did was wrong, he has lost the right to apologize. Talli looks like she is furious with him. He continues that he did a wrong thing, he only thought of himself, he did not think of the implications on others, now he is going through the same thing, he realizes how painful it is to love another who does not reciprocate, she is lucky that she at least got to experience her love, but for him it took so many years to realize his love, he just started experiencing the feeling of love when he lost that love, at least she experienced living with that love, she is dealing with the pain and standing there quietly, but he is not able to deal with it at all. Kesar looks so upset, crying, and gestures as if the pain is just unbearable and will make him go mad. Talli is hurt and fuming - for once I agree with her. The last thing I would want to hear is how much he is pining for someone else. Talli comes and faces him and says that he has broken both her and Gulaal's hearts, neither Gulaal nor she will ever be able to forgive him, he has played with both their emotions, he is very bad, saying this she leaves. How did Kesar break Gulaal's heart? Isn't it the other way around? Brainless Talli is confused now.
The next morning Gulaal hangs Vasant's photo in her room. Poonam comes there and tells her that Kesar has come to take her. She asks her to get ready. Gulaal asks her to tell Kesar to leave, she will not go anywhere. Poonam tells her that if she doesn't return, how will her and Kesar's marriage get better. Gulaal asks why she doesn't understand, she and Kesar cannot have this relationship, nobody can take Vasant's place in her life. Kesar overhears this and enters the room, Paan Baa leaves them alone.
Gulaal turns away. Kesar comes closer and asks her to come back, he has come to take her, without her that house is very quiet, not only he but everyone else will not be able to live with her, she is the soul of that house. Gulaal says soul, who he did not think about once before insulting her. I have no idea what Kesar said that was insulting. Talli's influence is on Gulaal, both are smoking pot. Kesar tells her that his intention was not to insult her or cause her pain, he just wanted to speak his heart. Gulaal refuses to talk to him and asks him to leave. Kesar asks why she is doing this to him, what is she punishing him for, she knows he loves... Gulaal doesn't let him finish and turns around and tells him to at least keep Vasant's respect, how could such a sinful thought enter his mind. Gulaal starts unpacking. Kesar says sin, and tells her that his love is a sin, his feeling of loving her in his mind is also a sin, why, only because he is Vasant's brother, who will decide sin or virtue, that person who makes the mistake and declares the punishment as well, or that person who doesn't make a mistake and yet bears the brunt of the punishment. He doesn't have the right to love her only because he is Vasant's younger brother, she should remember that she did deeyarvattu only because of that relationship, today the chaste word of love from his lips is like a sin for her, only because he shares the relationship of a brother with Vasant. Gulaal is confused and lost in thought, and is actually listening to Kesar for once. Already she is coming around, being away from enablers like Paan Baa and Mota Bha does help. He comes closer and asks her what if he wasn't Vasant's brother, would she then also call his love a sin. Gulaal doesn't know what to say.
Precap: Gulaal's father tells her that Vasant is her past, but Kesar is her future, her present. Gulaal shakes her head in a no (a less stern version though), he tells her that she will have to move ahead in her life with Kesar.
