'I come out of my shell when it's time to dance'

If there's one thing Hrithik enjoys more than acting, it's dancing. That's why he was the ideal choice to host a dance reality show. And yet it's not been a cakewalk.

Looking back on the process leading up to it, the actor sighs, "I think the toughest job I have done so far is to choose 52 talented dancers from 30,000. And it's going to be even more difficult to bring it down to 21 when the show starts. The toughest place to be in is the judge's chair in a TV show because I know the kind of hard work and struggle people go through to get a platform. A 'no' can break you." But there's a glimmer of hope for the rejected ones. Hrithik says, "Those who get eliminated, I will try to help them in whatever way I can. I think I am in a position to do something for them."

On what makes Just Dance different from other dance shows, he says, "The level of this show is 10 times higher. The talent is exceptional. When the auditions began I thought it would be very easy for me to pick the best dancers. But the talent started getting better and I went through an emotional upheaval to choose. It was the most stressful job I have ever done in my life!" he recollects, his hazel eyes clouding. Everyone wants to know whether viewers will get to see him dance.

He perks up. "Oh yes. I didn't get to dance in Jodha Akbar. In Guzaarish I was in a wheelchair. In Agneepath there is blood and gore. But this show will give me a chance to dance and enjoy myself." The rewards of the show will be great. As Hrithik puts it, "Apart from the prize money which is huge, the winner will get to do a music video with me, which will help him get somewhere."

As for this actor-dancer, he's humility personified as he reveals, "Every form of dance is difficult for me. I am a zero in dance. I start from scratch but I rehearse a lot. I have become a symbol of dance because of my films." The actor says he is a shy and reserved person who comes out of his shell when the music starts!

I've always wanted to see a celebrity judge try to help those that don't quite make it, but are clearly very deserving. But alas, that very rarely happens. So I really respect Hrithik for saying something like this. Hats off to him!
