Neil gave us a distinguished performance today in this episode in his portrayal of every other emotion of a traumatized Kesar. At the end of the episode when he finally shed those contained tears, Kesar was nothing but a bundle of emotions depicting shock, pain, love, rejection, disgrace, embarrassment, humiliation and finally he felt deceived by one and all, more so let down by HIS Gulaal
Everyone seems to lay hands at Kesar's belongings. His Chunar was stolen, his letters are stolen, his note from the diary was stolen, his thoughts are stolen, his individuality is stolen, what not

KESAR WITH GULAAL

Kesar is so wild enough that she did not place any importance to his feelings that she did not know what to do with chunar, two-timing in a way to keep both of them happy. He held her by force in not allowing her to pick the chunar. I also loved it when Kesar mentions about her "Mahanta" acts and what hurt him most was her planning (according to him) to get rid of the gift that she passed it on to Talli. The amount of hurt showed in the way his voice cracked when he said " Teri nazron mei, mere diye huye tohfe ki koi ahmiyat hi nahi"

His love and possessiveness is making him more violent and also makes him scream. Gulaal telling him about Talli being in love with him, totally shocks him, tears slowly well up in that shocking truth that he steps back in utter disbelief. How well Gulaal knows Talli and also tries to convince Kesar that Talli has been in love with him even before she knew the actual meaning of love. Why can't she understand that it's the same with Kesar? Kesar has been in love with her even before he knew what love was.

The scene where Kesar says "Bakwaas bandh kar" with slight quivering lips was such perfection to show his disbelief. That was just perfect. Kesar does not even allow Gulaal to complete the sentence "tub hi use pyaar'" Kesar made it quite clear that Talli is just a friend to him, nothing more than that and that he can never think of marrying her. The way he said, I could see that the concept of marrying itself is something that he can't think of.

I just couldn't believe Gulaal holding his hands and trying to make him agree to marry her. Relationships don't flourish when you start with compromises. Ah!! The declaration'It's impossible, I don't love her". The focus on the burning chunar following that was to show that Talli's long term dream has been reduced to ashes.

Kesar looks so consumed by all these revelations. First: in learning about Talli's love. Second Gulaal insisting that they marry. There is more shock for him as thirdly she mentions the promise she made to Talli as a child. The shock was too much that he reacts with "Kya", Ab samjha. That minute he must have realized the reason for Gulaal always pushing him and Talli together that tears just drop from his eyes.

The strain of yelling till then is evident in the way he continues talking with a strain and cracking in his voice. Wow what lot of questions to her:

I need to marry Talli because you promised her, How did you make such a big decision on my behalf without knowing my likes or dislikes in this matter. What is the main reason that you promised her as soon as I went? Her answer angers him. Well Gulaal is hardly able to meet his eyes direct to be giving answers.

Kesar was point blank in asking "Aur teri duniya mei", repeating the same with a slight raising of the brow. Now did all of us see a stunned Gulaal. Was she thinking whether he asked in regards to the rumor with Dushyant or that Kesar is asking "what will happen to you if I get married'. Anyways, couldn't fathom her thoughts. It's never been clear enough. Her silence and his wait for an answer are completed in that brief direct look into each other's eyes.

In fact he is convinced that Gulaal wanted him to marry Talli not just because of the simple reason of Talli's love but there is more to it than it seems. Kesar has infact dared her saying he will find the real reason for her plan.

That was a PERFECT SHOWDOWN with Gulaal. She is totally distraught by the turn of events.

KESAR WITH DUSHYANT

The next person whom he approaches is Dushyant. He was convinced with Dushyant's promise to him the previous day. His anxiety and stress to get at the root cause of this entire burden was actually terrible. When Dushyant was not able to give him the time, he was again restless, anxious and impatient. When Dushyant was explaining his inability Kesar's eyes showed that impatience and the earnestness in wanting to say to him'Please, I need your time now. His eyes showed that acceptance to Dushyant's priority for village work. (But so late at night??). He was disappointed when Dushyant actually left.

KESAR WITH RAMAN

Raman nailed it right on saying you are seeking questions from someone who is part of the reality regarding those questions. The inquisitiveness, the urgency was seen in the way he ran upto him. He was slightly in denial when raman brought up the rumor issue. When Raman informed of Dushyant being in love once upon a time with Gulaal and the actual Deeyarvatu arrangement with him which Gulaal denied, Kesar is totally shattered. "Dushyant Gulaal se pyaar karta tha" made his eyes well up with tears. He was so hurt with that truth. The close up of Neil's eyes was the best captured moment here when the tearful eyes so full of hurt and pain reflects his actual love for her and the alarming truth that she was loved by someone else too. Painfully he flashes back to his Deeyarvatu with Gulaal

The reddening of his face due to those emotions, the complete anguish when he hears that there is a possibility that Gulaal might have developed feelings for Dushyant over these years. When Raman continued saying "jisne uska hamesha saath diya hai", the slight tilt of his head was suggestive of Kesar saying" Please don't say that". When Raman mentions that however strong a woman is she needs a "man's" support, (I have really suppressed the feminist in me here). Kesar is totally shattered, crushed and traumatized.

PRECAP

Kesar has almost known the incidents leading to their Deeyarvatu. Comments reserved for actual episode.

Good write up!

Yes this was an intense episode. I was very taken with kesar mentioning/questioning Gulaal's "mahantha" with derision. It revealed the extent to which Gulaal had callously played with Kesar's emotions and taken him for granted. She was more concerned about Talli than she ever was about him. Romantic feelings and chemistry aside, only a machiavellian could plot someone's future so stoneheartedly. Parents at least ask their kids when arranging marriages, she never even bothered! Secrets, lies and subterfuge were Gulaal's routes to building a family and community - never once trusting even Motaba (whom she professes to respect) with her secrets and Kesar seems hell bent on yanking all the skeletons out of the cupboards. When she started all this family planning business, she was barely older than present Kesar's age.

Talli is not a character I feel any empathy towards (mainly because I see her as spoilt silly by Sudha and Gulaal) and today she seemed absurdly demented doing her dance in the middle of the night - Gulaal's machinations are going to make both Kesar and Talli head towards a shrink who will be able to afford beach vacations at Motaba's expense! Now of course one insane person is going to be married to another equally insane person (according to SBS) - all driven to the psychiatric ward by this Gulaal!!

So looks like the pessimistic promise of bigamy and Vasanth rising from the dead looms large on the horizon...what with the puja hints and all...

Spot on Meysimi 😊

The emotions and pain his eyes and the utter shock that he felt when he learnt what he did, that all along she had made a pact with Talli and why she was pushing them together and then the shock of Ramam telling him about D loving Gulaal - each and every word cut him, and no wonder his mind goes over-drive on certain things and comes up with assumptions that makes sense on what he has heard and seen
Things are unraveling for Gulaal slowly - and with marriage happening its another thing added to the present of situations and the outcome is gonna backfire
I agree with you on what you say about the second question he asked what about her world - as you say we can either take that as what about her life if he is married to someone else and then the D issue, i went with the D issue coz we saw him seeking some answers after that...
And exactly what Gulaal said about loving Kesar when she didnt know the meaning applies to Kesar as well, he's loved before he even know what it meant and so on
And the scene seeing Talli crying face with her hand on her mouth, and merging into the chunar burning away, that was a significant scene

Well done Mey-simi and all the other s. Left me nothing to say.

Do I need to say about the actors! Neil's voice was fantastically done, especially when he was talking to Gulaal. Gulaal's show down was good too.

Loved it about the mahanta: CV's didn't reall go out of the way to justify the act.

Lennie has explained so beautifully about the teri duniya-so I am not going bore you repeating it. But it is also true as Reemz says that he always worries for her, like are you happy? What do you want? And so on.

And Lennie what did you mean by Thalli and chunner burning?

And so right about Thallli's love and Kesar's

Scene with Raman was brilliant as you say Mey-Simi
