Salman Khan has the Midas Touch
He did post-release promotions for Dabangg as well, and now, he is promoting Ready in his signature style. The original enfant terrible of Bollywood talks about his upcoming film and the success of its music.
The lyrics of Character Dheela sound vulgar, but the video is so funny and cute that we don't mind the lyrics. How did you manage to do that?
I am an actor, and my work is to entertain people. None of my films have had or will have vulgarity. I have always done family films. When I heard the song, I was excited to shoot the video for the song. I wanted to give it a classic look, so we decided to mix it with old characters, and that is why I play Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, and Dharmendra, who are all my favorite stars. The song is my way of paying tribute to them. I think Zarine Khan looks really nice in the song.
You seem to be making so many punch lines these days…
My daddy once told me that a film becomes a hit when it has a good screenplay and dialogues. Every dialogue from Sholay and Zanjeer is so famous. Even children have "Kitne aadmi the re" and "Basanti in kutton ke saamne mat naachna" by heart. In Wanted, it was " Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di... uske baad toh main khud ki bhi nahi sunta!", then in Dabangg, it was " Hum yaha ke Robin Hood Hain, Robin Hood Pandey," "Pyaar se de rahe hain, rakh lo, warna thappad maar ke bhi de sakte hain," and others. When audiences step out of the cinema, they should have some memory related to the film. I am sure audiences will love Ready's dialogues. Actually, they have started liking it in the promos itself!
How did you like working with Asin once again?
I liked Asin in Ghajini. While shooting for London Dreams, she was quiet initially, but we became friends over time. She has a pretty face, and is talented too. In Ready, she has done a great job, as the film is a mix of comedy, action, and romance. I believe she makes a perfect Bollywood heroine, who can do all of them. It was great working with her. She has good comic timing and is very focused on her work.
How was it working with Anees Bazmee?
Anees and I have been friends since a long time. I am happy that he has directed Ready, because he is always great with comedy and is a very talented director. He is one of the most relaxed directors I have ever worked with. When we were shooting in Bangkok, Anees and I were chilling and having evening snacks. Then someone came and told us about the stories saying that we do not get along. We burst out laughing. Shooting for Ready was great fun. Obviously, Anees and I get along, and I hope he takes me in his next film (laughs).
We heard you told someone that he was wearing a fake Being Human T-shirt; what are you doing to stop the piracy?
We can't do anything to stop piracy. What we are doing is charity. When one Being Human T-shirt is sold, the proceeds go to charity, but the person who is selling the proxy T-shirt is only earning for himself. You can get Being Human T-shirts at Cotton World; the fabric is pure and it's not that costly, even to a common man. And to stop the piracy, I can only request my audience to not buy it from vendors. It's not easy to run a charity; you can't keep calling everyone and asking them to donate. We thought of coming up with brands to earn money, so that we can provide shelter to orphans. And, believe me, it's not easy running Being Human. We face lots of problems - like common people asking for money for their treatment. Still, with my family and friends' support, Being Human is doing well, and I hope I can shelter more children.
Your friendship with Aamir Khan is growing each day. How are you feeling about this?
Aisa kuch nahi hain. We have been always friends, but these days, everything is hyped in the media. I like Aamir as he is an open-hearted person. He talks to me when he feels like it. He is very intelligent, and knows a lot of things. When you met such people, you start admiring them. It is the same with Aamir. Who doesn't like Aamir Khan? Everyone loves him.
