Hi there,
I had a restful Easter weekend😃. ...wish it didnt end😆
And I came back to read a lively debate on how Kes is wrong vs how Gulaal is wrong.
Well let me put my rose tinted shades aside for a second and not think of this with my heart as a love story between two charismatic leads ...but with my mind as an objective story presented to us.
Then...In my mind both Gulaal and Kesar are equally selfish and foolish...🥱...Yes they are...if one really thinks about it in the big picture...all that matters to them is their pain, their crusade, their interpretation of each other, their interpretation of welfare of mankind😆, their interpretation of Vasant...and their emotional state...and the rest be dammed.
As Gulaal's mother rightly said..."you cannot be careless with some relations"
So this thread is about the others...the relations, some of whom are responsible for our birth...
Paanbaa + Motabha
They lost their elder son to a hateful revenge😭...whose details they are still unaware of...as a parent dont I have a right to know why my child was killed and who killed him
...no matter how glorious the reason for hiding the truth is...what if Dushyant again turns bad tomorrow...or Jamna Baa kills Kesar ...then what...
Gulaal shoud have told them the truth and left it to their maturity to deal with it and taken a decision to forgive or punish Dushyant together with Paanbaa and Motabha...
Moving on...now in the sunset of their life, they are facing a younger son ...the only son who is aparantly alive...who has no clue of what he wants in life apart from trying to teach his dead brother's wife a lesson...a son who in his misguided hate...did not think it fit enough to visit his biological loving parents for 10 years.👎🏼👎🏼...I am all for Kesar's anger towards Gulaal...if that is how he wants it...but pray Kesudaa tell me, ...tell me what fault did your mother and father commit that you shut them out for 10 years
Paanbaa and Motabha's life is filled with worry and tears for a decision of which as parents they were not even consulted ...when someone just chose to marry their younger son and poof he is now married😆...arey yaar😆...what if they had great plans of marrying Kesudaa off to another girl😆...Thanks to Gulaal and her crusade for Vasant dream, now that dream is down the river or lake or whatever ...
At the end of it all, now Paanbaa and Motabha. are facing a son who seems to have no focus in life about his own responsibilities...and whose married life seems at least on the surface as dead before even it can begin...
Gulaal's parents
These folks forgave an enmity and accepted their dear daughter Gulaal's choice to go to Talsagra in search of water...ok done
Then the parents accept Gulaal's decision to marry Vasant and settle in Talsagra...ok done...
Furthermore as parents they were mute spectators to watching Gulaal take her own decision ...again ...about marrying a child 👎🏼 and not even consulting them... (yes no matter how much we gloat or justify or bluff about it.😳...when she married Kesar he was a child...12 years...forget the emotional bond fairytale...in practical life any one doing that in a western or developed country would have been named a pervert😆...try doing this in US or any European country...Gulaal would have been behind bars
in our Mills and Boons longing for a love story ...we ...the so called matured ...educated ...liberated audience which includes even me 👎🏼👎🏼 and therefore I am giving myself a thumbs down...are forgetting that stories that show child abuse (and child marrige is one of them😳 )...should be shown the door👎🏼)
So again now in the sunset of their life, Gulaal's parents have one more worry ...that the child their daughter married is giving their daughter a royal snub...pray tell me CVs...do Gulaal's parents deserve this??
Their life is filled with worry and tears for a decision on which as parents they were not even consulted.
Rewa
What did this girl do wrong??...that she is an obedient wife and daughter😭...well now thanks to her younger brother's not so cool frame of mind she is unnecessaruly going to bear the brunt of her husband Yogesh's anger and taunts...coz Yogesh is just going to bring out all his frustration with Kesar on poor Rewa...perhaps if Kesar and Gulaal continue to live in this tension then even Gulaal's parents will start reacting coldly towards Rewaa
But more than that...what about Rewa the sister...what does Rewa the sister get??...an elder brother dead😭...and a younger brother having lost the plot, who in his misconception is forgetting how much he has or is ignoring his own sister, or the formalities in her in-laws house
Talli
The character we all like to pan down isnt it😕...well yes she is obnoxious in her Kesar chant...but on Friday I felt that Kesar had no business to take her to Gulaal's house...where she was absolutely unwelcome...where she was just dragged (as she rightly said had she known they were coming here then she would have got Gulaal too)...If I were talli and a guy I did that to me...I would be sad.
Please CVs ...all of the above deserve a much better treatment than what they are being subjected to.
I get the point that Indian TV serials are about love storys...and that is the only thing that works...a very likeable jodi to push up the TRP...but life is more than just fairy tale romance...all relations matter in our life...that with a parent and a sibling perhaps matter the most...
So while I am all for a love track...lets not treat the other relationships just like furniture props...because then no matter how great the love track looks...on a higher wholistic ground...the lead characters would not be up to the mark.

nice post kasturi ! this serial has some flaws inspite having strong cast and beautiful story...me watched the previous epi...and always wondered y they have shown gulaal blessed with the skill of finding water in the barren land how is it connected to the story of deeyarvatu they could have shown gulaal as an simple girl rather than having such an extraordinary quality.. whats a purpose of all that payal and water finding things it was just too much ...secondly y didnt they highlighted gulaal 's fortune having two husband ...if gulaal parents dushyant or any pundit of talsagra has told motaba and panba it would have created more drama in the serial i m sure motaba and panba would be more keen to know that their would be duaghter in law is destined to have two husband but sadly cv totally skipped this part...thirdly y they show the rivalry between two rashipur and talsagra by killing jamna kaki daughter ...if jamna kaki daughter daughter was married in rashipur then vasant and dushyant must have met gulaal as gulaal was cousin of jamna kaki son in law but in the serial its shown that vasant and gulaal didnt even knew each other ...if they wanted to show the rivalry they could easily showed on other dispute like water (its common in village) like rashipur refusing to give water to tlsagra or not letting them build a cannel due to which talsagra is living in misery..y did they waste a character u know a character means so many subplots. in the serial...fourthly y gulaal is shown as 22 this is very mature age of a village girl normally villagers marry their daughter at the age of 16 max 19 so they could have eaily showed gulaal at 19 and kesar at 13-14 still they could have shown child marrying a girl but here the age difference is that not much and here kesar and gulaal doesnot look like yashoda maiyya and knaha.they could have playful relations like any devar and bhabhi has which might flourish into love later...but no cv first showed kesar at 12 gulaal at 22 worst always stated gulaal is like second mother to kesar showed her bathing him teaching him and beating with scale (was there a need) now giving us a hint of romantic angel between them ( bit strange and hard to swallow) ...

well none of us told that the show is flop it has flaws...but still we like it ...as compare to other shows where there is nothing accpet the rona dhona and one type of facial expression from prtogonists...if u dont like the show switch it off but dont offend anyone especially neil he isn't a kid he is among the finest actor of tv industry...constructive criticism is welcome but no bashing plz...

i do agree ... but then i think he went away so that he could grow up ( in physical strength and maturity etc ) to be able to find bro's killers. and lets not forget its a story ... we have to give them some liberty.
Paanbaa and Motabha's life is filled with worry and tears for a decision of which as parents they were not even consulted ...when someone just chose to marry their younger son and poof he is now married😆...arey yaar😆...what if they had great plans of marrying Kesudaa off to another girl😆...Thanks to Gulaal and her crusade for Vasant dream, now that dream is down the river or lake or whatever ...

in our Mills and Boons longing for a love story ...we ...the so called matured ...educated ...liberated audience which includes even me 👎🏼👎🏼 and therefore I am giving myself a thumbs down...are forgetting that stories that show child abuse (and child marrige is one of them😳 )...should be shown the door👎🏼)
again thats not child abuse. its a tradition in rural india ... it happens whether we like it or not. just like marriage of pre teen girls to men in their sixties which i find far more revolting since these pre teen girls are made to perform all spousal duties which in this case no1 imposed on kesar. u wud be appaled to know there is a tradition called as natha pratha in rajasthan etc ... where they merely stay in a relationship with a man/woman and end it when they have had enough by paying off the partner ( an equivalent of modern day live in ).so lets stop derogating this beyond a certain point while there are obviously far worse things going on in this world. this is not LOLITA.
Rewa

unfortunately husbands take it out on their wives and this again is a very normal occuring in this world. wives are easy targets to take their daily frustrations out on ... and even vulnrable when they happen to be sister of a man who is married to the husband's sister... what they are showing is honest and convincing truth. it happens all the time 😭
Talli
The character we all like to pan down isnt it😕...well yes she is obnoxious in her Kesar chant...but on Friday I felt that Kesar had no business to take her to Gulaal's house...where she was absolutely unwelcome...where she was just dragged (as she rightly said had she known they were coming here then she would have got Gulaal too)...If I were talli and a guy I did that to me...I would be sad.
i do totally agree with the above. i felt sorry for talli and she has my sympathies. kesar has no bussiness using some1 to serve his own end ... but again this happens well it s one screwed up world we live in really. gulaal isnt showing anything out of it actually.

Thanks😊
To all that you wrote in bold...that is exactly my point...we know all of this happens...I am from India and I have seen worse things happening
But that is exactly the point isnt it...
We Indians are the only ones who can make the difference to our customs and practices.😳
If we know something is wrong, then any part of its representation, just reinforces the idea in peoples mind...and that is so uncalled for.
Otherwise what is the point of calling ourselves a developing nation, with liberal minds.😳
I would love to see Kesar and Gulaal together...and even with the older woman and younger man angle...the story would have been equally nice if they would have shown Kesar grows up ...he goes finds Gulaal...and falls for her...and how he convinces her to marry him...😳
I think Neil and Mansi look so good together that the serial and love story would have still worked.
There was no need to show a downright abusive custom (which we know is mostly used in rural India to abuse women rather than for their upliftment) and the whole child marriage track.
Hope you understand that I am therefore looking at the bigger picture and social message over here.
