Hey guys,

Well after seeing a topic on the Da Vinci Code..i remembered a debate we were having in one of my science lessons when we were really bored..basically..a girl i know is a christian yet she is a pagan..and we were asking her why she had such beliefs..

we were saying that christianity has formed from paganism..basically..think about what i say and tell me what you think..

-What has Bunnies and Chocolates got to do with Easter?
Esaster is meant to be Jesus rising from the dead..then what is the link?

-Why do we put a tree in our house during Christmas?
Isn't Christmas meant to be celeberating Jesus' birthday..then what is the connection b/w the two of them?..

and basically the list goes on..

do u guys think that if u have faith in God..that is more than enough as he'll always be there 4 u..or all of this is true and the stories abt God are a lie?

Personally speaking..i go to a Catholic school and there are many strong christians and catholics ova there..some started doubting their faith..but i think that if u believe in something..stick with it..if ur faith is true then anything is possible😊there are many different ways of looking at this situation..

but what are your views?..

lub u loads🤗

Hi Tina, your theory "That Christianity orignated from Pagan beliefs" was proved by Dan Browns book "Da Vince Code". Frankly i must say i know very little about Christianity so won't comment about Easter and Christmas traditions.

As for those girls in your school who are Catholics that are dounting Christianity. I must say to them every body at some point in their life goes through transformation and change in thoughts about matters of the religon and about GOD.....its but natural!! I think this sense of speculation, and trying to understand religon is very important for personal growth. And only in democracy are you allowed such freedom and one should cherish it. Remember those coutries where religon is thrust on you and you have no choice and be glad you have the choice.

Religion has never been stagnant. Most of the time it has accomodated many things which were not part of original dictums just to fit in with a country's culture.

As you pointed out, the Easter Bunny symbolized the beginning of Spring for folk traditions as it was a symbol of fertility. Eggs were another symbol of fertility and were incorporated into Easter. Most people were unwilling to give up these rituals as they were born doing them.

Another example I can give is when Christianity came to China. A Jesuit priest by the name of Matteo Ricci combined various aspects of Confucianism to Roman Catholicism to spread christianity in China. However, the Lutherans, Franciscans, etc. who were getting lesser converts complained to the Catholic Church that Ricci and his followers were diluting Christianity. Hence, eventually, it was banned from China. The Emperor said that they had to accept the Confucian Christianity or leave China.

Folk culture will always be incorporated into religion. But the core of any religion pretty much remains the same. A ray of light passing through a glass prism refracts into a spectrum of colours. But, that does not make the ray of light any colour other than white. Break the prism and you will still see pure white light.

As Aparna said, many people go through a phase of religious discovery. But, in the end, it does not matter what you believe in as long as you are a good human being and dont harm others.

easter eggs etc. symbolise new life, therefore they are used to show that Jesus was reborn 😊 (please correct me if i'm wrong)

As a religious person, I think religon is important and having that belief in God is what helps me when I'm in trouble. But i think some people lose belief cos they are influenced by society which leads them astray, therefore they begin doubting their beliefs. I dont think that I'll ever doubt my beleifs but sometimes I worry that they're not as strong as they should be I have so to speak been led astry many times 😳

first off, the Da vinci code has been proven wrong many times, infact only ten facts in the entire book are actually true!

i did a little research on the easter bunny since we had to give a speech about it at school, and it actually came from the germans that migrated during the 1800's to america, it was originally called "oshter haws", and was a pagan goddess symbol.

Here is a link on it : http://www.nbc4.tv/easter/570562/detail.html
