DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AHEAD OF TIME AND ALLOW YOURSELF A LITTLE EXTRA TIME EACH MORNING FOR THAT UNEXPECTED TEMPER TANTRUM OR WHATEVER â BARRY IZSAK
We begin the day with an educated Sax heir having a temper tantrum. Hurt that his family refuses to accept his earnings, he picks up the dahi jalebi and drops it intentionally on the floor declaring "well, ok, then! No one is going to deal these jalebis".
A WIFE IS ESSENTIAL TO GREAT LONGEVITY; SHE IS THE RECEPTACLE OF HALF A MAN'S CARES, AND TWO-THIRDS OF HIS ILL-HUMOR â CHARELS READE
Komal steps up annoyed that her share of the dahi jalebi had hit the floor due to the Saxes. She reminds the educated elders need to understand Adarsh's feelings. She argues that it's not Adarsh's fault for being blessed with a generous sasurji who bestows favors on his damadh. Left to the Saxes, Adarsh would have grown roots and lived in his chair as an officer of the bank. SS did him a favor and he graciously accepted it so what's the harm in that. A reasonable Komal is always a treat to watch. Komal shows maturity in talking to the bullies in MMGJ. She gives it to them straight, something they rightly deserve these days. Seriously, does Shamu even listen to what he says half the time. What does education have to do with human emotions. Shamu is jealous as heck, lives in the Green House to prove it. Komal gave Shamu a good bolti bundh answer. But as always he lectures but rarely listen to a valid argument.
IT IS NO USE WALKING ANYWHERE TO PREACH UNLESS OUR WALKING IS OUR PREACHING â ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI
Saxes have an allergic reaction to the idea of Adarsh's gifted promotion altogether. This ain't the first time they have such an averse reaction to gifts of any kind. When SS came with the sagun for Krishna and Takurain did for Komal, they reacted with the same distaste and revulsion as well. It's also understandable why. After all Shamu has been a Professor all his life and never had to climb a ladder of any kind. He has been moving horizontally all his professional life that watching his son doing the vertical climb is making him dizzy. A man should earn a promotion for his hard work not from a recommendation. This freezes Adarsh on the spot after being reminded of his Papa's long forgotten sanskaars. Shamu claims he's not jealous of his son's promotion. Who said anything about jealousy here? Komal talks gratitude and Shamu hears jealousy. Talk about serious communication issues. So what if Shamu disapproves of Adarsh's promotion? Adarsh's promotion is not the problem here, his illegally pocketed money is.
LOGIC IS THE SYSTEMATIC METHOD OF COMING TO THE WRONG CONCLUSION WITH CONFIDENCE
Shamu's theory that somehow someone who's recommended for a promotion is likely to be led astray isn't entirely true. Here's a perfect example of ignorance not getting in the way of being authoritative. In the corporate world, Board of Directors often base promotions of their senior officials on recommendations they receive. In this case, it's a little late in the day to be concerned about Adarsh's integrity. He has already voiced his thirst for money to Prats at the Niwas during one of his visits. Adarsh was motivated by greed even before SS bestowed his favor of a promotion on him. This tree has been rotting at the roots under your shady care. So what do you have to say to that Shamu? Talk about some kind of faltu logic coming from a man who educates young people. It's already a case of "it's too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube." The fact that Adarsh is still roaming around freely doesn't take away from the truth that he has broken the law and it's only a matter of time before the police come knocking on his door with a pair of shining handcuffs to accessorize Adarsh's wrists.
THE QUICKEST WAY TO KNOW A WOMAN IS TO GO SHOPPING WITH HER â MARCELENE COX
SHOPPING IS A WOMAN THING. IT'S A CONTACT SPORT. WOMEN ENJOY THE SCRIMMAGE, THE NOISY CROWDS AND THE ECSTASY OF THE PURCHASE â ERMA BOMBECK
The women of the haveli are happily shopping for saree at the haveli Ganti Lal chooses a "LAL"(RED) saree especially for her favorite bahu Prats. She wears a lot of red and has been a target of RED for a long time. A warning to choose your colors carefully, you never know what you attract!
GO AROUND ASKING A LOT OF FOOLISH QUESTIONS, ONLY THROUGH CURIOSITY CAN WE DISCOVER OPPORTUNITIES.
The noisy excited chatter in the hallway brings the young Prince of Niwas to see what the excitement is all about. In his attempt to learn more about the world of business Krishna questions the vendor about his profit margins and how he makes a living every month that unnerves the man into claiming he barely makes it. An amused SS watches from a distance, a smile breaking out on his face as he observes his Baba's growing curiosity to learn about business. He chews on an apple watching the animated action on center stage. Now we know where KN's love of apples comes from.
JUDGE A MAN BY HIS QUESTIONS RATHER THAN HIS ANSWERS â VOLTAIRE
Krishna volleys a barrage of questions at the vendor who is starting to sweat bullets and defending his fair prices. But the young Takur is convinced these unsuspecting women are being ripped off and wants to get them a fair deal. He sends his two devars T/C to check on market prices, the store price is 33% than the vendor's. Takurain tells Krishna to stay out of it. Prats rushes Krishna back to their room and gives him a lesson for the day "Don't bother poor people. Will this come in handy when Krishna starts his dhaba?
THE MANNER OF GIVING IS WORTH MORE THAN THE GIFT â PIERRE CORNEILLE
SS, buzurg Takur, motivated by his youngest aulad and his mehraroo's loving moments together at the hospital is tempted to give it a try and do something special for his mehraroo. He tells Takurain "the sunshine of his heart" to get the bright yellow saree but Takurain says she's got one too many yellow sarees and she'd rather get the green one, sure why not, the lady knows what she wants, it matches your jealous streak Takurain. SS is disappointed, what can we say Takurji, your Takurain is a bit of a killjoy doesn't get it but got to give SS credit for giving it a try following in Krishna's footsteps.
THE GREED OF GAIN HAS NO TIME OR LIMIT TO ITS CAPACIOUSNESS â RABINDRANATH TAGORE
The new resident leach manages to finagle an invitation from SS to purchase a saree for herself. After putting up a token resistant of not accepting free gifts at her daughter's sasural, she jumps at the chance and grabs the yellow saree. Faltu modesty and top it all off she's been sending flirtatious glances SS's way since the day she arrived at the Niwas! Does she have her eyes on the big prize? Watch out! This resident freeloader may be looking to get a hold on to the buzurg Takur himself one of these days. Every time Takurain voices her individual preference over her husband's choice, is Kesamma going to opt for the Takur's choice and use it as her chance to widen the gulf between the senior Takurs? Hard to believe she is Kesar's mother after all and not an impostor. She darts a look SS's way and gushes excitedly at his offer. Did Takurain just realize her folly when Kesamma takes the saree her mard had chosen for her? She darts an angry look at her samandhji.đĄ
THE FIRST DUTY OF LOVE IS TO LISTEN â PAUL TILLICH
LOVE MAY BE BLIND, BUT MARRIAGE IS A REAL EYE-OPENER.
Krishna speaks from his heart, an admirable quality. Prats fighting for her life at the hospital has opened his eyes and he is now ready to follow Prats's sachchai ka saat dena path and earn an honest living. What's with the Sax philosophy that an honest living has to be hard work? It's not necessarily required that one must toil hard, one can be efficient and smart and still make an honest living. These limiting beliefs need to be reconsidered. If "hard" work is what brings good earnings then how come the toiling laborers who work very hard are those who often struggle to make ends meet and provide well for their families? Food for thought indeed! He confesses he never wants to lose Prats ever, no matter what it takes on his part.
FIRST THEY IGNORE YOU, THEN THEY RIDICULE YOU, THEN THEY FIGHT YOU AND THEN YOU WIN â MAHATMA GANDHI
Dadi confronts Komal for setting up her own kitchen. Arusi cannot handle seeing the family kitchen being split in two and leaves quietly. Hard to believe it's the same person who was jetani at the Niwas for a while. Naina is crying profusely, it's not like Komal built a wall to divide the kitchen that she's going to have to live with only half a kitchen. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we women are picky about our kitchens. It's not like she'd dragging a sick man out of bed and getting him out of the house either, for goodness sake. Neither is Komal throwing you out of your house for now. What's with turning into a waterfall at the drop of a hat? Got to say it though, Komal is the perfect bahu for the Saxes. She plays by their rules yet is smart enough to turn the tables on them and say checkmate. Dadi needs to get a look at herself for pinning everything that goes wrong in their home on Komal, their ready-made scapegoat. She's been recently bullying Komal once too often only to scamper away when the young Takur blood pushes back giving as good as she gets without shrieking like she used to earlier. Komal, good for you, you go girl! Hold that mirror to their faces, it's about time they took a good look at their duyi-duyi faces.
COOKING IS LIKE LOVE. IT SHOULD BE ENTERED INTO WITH ABANDON OR NOT AT ALL â HARRIET VAN HORNE.
Krishna hollers out to Pratigya as he enters the center stage but how come Prats in the kitchen never ever responds with "I'm here, in the kitchen, Krishna". He grabs a treat off GD's plate and rushes to the kitchen after hearing Prats is there doing her chores.đ˛ Krishna has once again remembered his vow to "hamesha saat dena" to Prats. Takurain is eagerly eavesdropping in on the convo in the kitchen between Krishna and Prats. She tenses the moment she hears Krishna say "I will be your right hand and do the job for you". As the heat in the kitchen heats up, Takurain's blood boils too. She can't tolerate to see her son do anything she doesn't approve of. She is a big believer in the division of duties along gender lines. Like most sasumas she is also turning green at the thought of Krishna helping Prats voluntarily in the kitchen.
COOKING IS AT ONCE A CHILD'S PLAY AND ADULT JOY. AND COOKING DONE WITH CARE IS AN ACT OF LOVE. â CRAIG CLAIRBORNE
The young Takur's pride and wonder at successfully adding a chamach of salt to the dish was a treat to watch. Krishna tastes the food and is seriously impressed with himself. Prats explains it's their love that makes it extra tasty and Krishna is ready to be master chef and take over preparing the meal for the day. An unpud he may be but like many modern day husband he is willing to lend his wife a helping hand any time at all, something Prats's pada-lika brother is yet to offer Komal. With Takurain's cooking not measuring up by SS's high standards, is she is afraid her son would excel in what she considers to be strictly a woman's territory. The world has more men chefs, wonder how many of them come from households where men are banned from kitchens and it's considered women's territory.
Preview: TO HEAR COMPLAINTS WITH PATIENCE, EVEN WHEN COMPLAINTS ARE VAIN, IS ONE OF THE DUTIES OF FRIENDSHIP â SAMUEL JOHNSON
So all that Takurain did for Prats at the hospital was eye-wash and not from the heart. Figures! A leopard never changes its spots. Takurain is back to square one and fills SS's ears with her never ending complaints about Prats being the mardana-aurath and making Krishna do the unthinkable, . prepare the family's meal that goes against family protocol and respect. From SS's calm exterior, she may be in for a tongue lashing come tomorrow. Are POPS heading towards a rift between the senior Takurs with SS being firmly in Krishna and Prats's corner while Takurain hugs her pride and outdated ways of living refusing to bend her ways for the sake of her son's happiness and the greater good of the family? Change is never easy, but without commitment and willingness from Takurain it ain't gonna happen in her world.
NOW HAVE YOUR SAY IF YOU PLEASE!đ¤
