@ rekha .thanks for sharing some great news..😊
well its surprise surprise..
at last colors dethrones SP from its pedestal...
let cricket fever all colors prime time shows have been consistently doing good in the TRP chart .in fact they are occupying the first 5 top places..
whereas SP prime time shows only pratigya still keeping its place in the top 10..others no sign of improvement ..one under scanner other one to get off air soon..
SP is having big competition with colors prime time slot..its like they wanted to end bidaai on a high for pride but its the opposite reaction that happenned from the viewers..seems no one interested in SP now..bidaai should not have been ended like this breaking the loyal viewers heart..
its time to react for SP and starting they can bring back their lucky charm bidaai back and continue the leap unfinished story....

Colors in top position in week that ends with India's World Cup win

Indiantelevision.com Team

(6 April 2011 10:30 pm)

MUMBAI: In the week that ended with India lifting the World Cup, Colors has occupied the top spot in the Hindi general entertainment channel space amid allegations from some rival networks that it dropped ad inventory.

The Viacom18 channel, following behind market leader Star Plus for almost a year, has added 28 GRPs (gross rating points) during the week.

While the whole nation was gripped by the cricket World Cup fever, all the other GECs were losing viewership in a magical week that saw India triumph over Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Colors, on the other hand, raced up the charts to end the week with 300 GRPs, with four of its shows - Uttaran, Na Aana Is Des Laado, Balika Vadhu and Laagi Tujhse Lagan - ranking among the top 10.

Said Colors spokesperson, "To counter the intensifying cricket World Cup mania, we adopted an aggressive approach as part of our tactical move to minimise viewership-loss to cricket. These included inventory optimisation, storyline peaks in some of our fiction shows and strong movie line-ups. The GEC space is not alien to these tactics. As the ratings suggest, this appears to have paid-off for us, as we experienced minimum viewership loss during the peak of World Cup cricket."

Star Plus dropped to No. 2 with 261 GRPs in its kitty (last week 291 GRPs), according to Tam data for Hindi speaking markets.

"We refrained from dropping ad ventory to shore up our ratings. We do not believe in tactics which are 'value-destroying' for the industry. For us, it is important to have a sustainable business plan," said Star India EVP and head, marketing and communications Anupam Vasudev.

Star Plus believes that it will retain its pole position. "India reaching the finals and winning the World Cup was a very big and good thing for the country. It has come after 28 years and is bound to impact the other genres. Viewers will come back to us, now that the World Cup is over," explained Vasudev.

Meanwhile, Zee TV lost 16 GRPs during the week to stay in third position with 170 GRPs.

Sony Entertainment Television was the top loser during the week. It shed 39 GRPs and slipped one position to take the fifth spot with 120 GRPs, while sister channel Sab, even after losing 8 GRPs, stayed in the fourth position with 128 GRPs.

Imagine TV shed 11 GRPs to end the week with 70 GRPs while Star One and Sahara One were at 28 and 22 GRPs respectively.

GEC Watch: Colors dethrones STAR Plus to become No. 1 GEC in Week 14

Colors added 28 GRPs to its previous week numbers to stand at 300 points in Week 14.

Colors, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from the Viacom18 stable, has dethroned market leader STAR Plus to grab the No. 1 spot for the week ended April 2.

According to TAM (C&S 4+, HSM), Colors added 28 GRPs to its previous week numbers to stand at 300 points in Week 14. Its relative share has also moved up from 20.8 per cent in the previous week to 22.6 per cent in Week 14.

While it's Colors' weekend movie slot that primarily drove Colors up the GRP ladder (an addition of approximately 53 GRPs), industry sources say that the channel has also reduced its ad inventory by 20 per cent.

"This has pushed up the volume of its content by about 20 per cent and therefore, surfing during ad breaks has also reduced," says a top media executive.

For the record, Tees Maar Khan was aired twice on Sunday - at 12 noon (3.4 TVR) and again at 8 pm (another 3.4 TVR).

A company spokesperson from Colors says, "In order to counter the intensifying ICC Cricket World Cup mania, we adopted an aggressive approach as part of our tactical move to minimise viewership loss to cricket. These included inventory optimisation, storyline peaks in some of our fiction shows and strong movie line-ups. The GEC space is not alien to these tactics. As the ratings suggest, this appears to have paid-off for us, as we experienced minimum viewership loss during the peak of world cup cricket."

Star Plus, meanwhile, has seen a drop of 30 GRPs during the period, thereby slipping down to the second spot. Its relative share has also dipped from 22.3 per cent to 19.7 per cent.

Industry sources state that STAR's standoff with InCable, wherein StarPlus was switched off in many cable homes serviced by InCable in Mumbai, Nasik, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Bengaluru, could have also impacted the ratings of the channel.

Overall, it was once again the World Cup finals between India and Sri Lanka that took away the cake. It was the most watched event in the Top 10 list for the HSM zone.

Thanks to the World Cup, DD1 has bagged an additional 103 GRPs to end the week at 194 points, occupying the third spot. Its relative channel share has also doubled - from 7 per cent in the previous week to 14.6 per cent in Week 14. Its relative share is at 12.9 per cent. The channel has pushed Zee down to the fourth position with 171 GRPs in its pocket. Zee's channel share is 12.9 per cent.

SAB has once again toppled Sony, occupying the fifth spot for the week. The channel has, however, lost 9 GRPs to stand at 127 points.

Sony, meanwhile, lost 39 GRPs during the week, thereby pocketing 120 points. Its relative share has also fallen to 9.1 per cent from the 12.2 per cent that it had garnered in the previous week.

Imagine TV witnessed a loss of 11 points in its GRPs (70 GRPs) while its relative share fell to 5.3 per cent (from 6.2 per cent).

While STAR One and STAR Utsav have garnered 28 GRPs and 27 GRPs respectively, their relative shares recorded are 2.1 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, Sahara One has managed to garner 22 GRPs, with 1.7 per cent relative share.

On the list of the 10 most watched programmes on Hindi GECs, Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV is at No. 2, with a TVR of 5.58.

Uttaran on Colors is the third most-watched programme, recording a TVR of 5.29, followed by Na Aana Is Des Laado at No. 4 with 5.26 TVR. The Indo-Pak semi final is at No. 5, with a TVR of 5.03.

The other shows on the list are Saathiya Saath Nibhana, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Balika Vadhu, Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Pratigya.

I find it funny that Tees Maar Khan a flop movie along with its four shows helped bring Colors to no. 1 position.😆

@rekha..thanks for article..😊
seems colors strategy has worked for them.they got the numero uno..
they have banked on their movies too and TEES MAAR KHAN has brought them some good point in ratings.3.4..not bad ...😊
lets see if colors keeps the number one place for long .
watever SP sure must be having second thoughts on their risky strategy and shutting down a show which was doing well in TRP chart..
