If they want to compete in a global economy - Yes.
If they are happy being hobbits in the shire - No.

Now the question is, should an 'English test' be made compulsory to post on an English discussion board?

Are you a LoTR fan too? 😕

Amuse or Amaze? Or both ?😆
Malaysia tried to downgrade English and push their own language under Mahatir with disastrous consequences. Imagine the medium of education was all purely in Malay and the graduates had communication problems in proper English,so they had problems working in Singapore.
But their skills in Malay improved though. Guess a balance is needed.

I would say yes, like many of the others just because english is something that cannot be avoided even if you try, its everywhere. I definitely think that if you haven't learned it yet you should because most of the technologies these days is in English, and yes it definitely helps to get a job if you can speak that.
Now i don't know if it easy to learn because English is one weird language if you think about.. Knot is not and Know is no and There is their. So i don't think its easy to learn but i doubt its harder than Mandarin.

So all in all, yes and i would most definitely encourage anyone who doesn't know it to take it, for a brighter future.

Yes, it should be since English is the one language that unites all of us. Take the example of India, it has so many languages and there are many people who donot know Hindi or just donot want to learn it, for them English is the only language through which they can communicate with the other person who doesnot speak the same language as they do!!!
