Apologies in the advance as this will likely be rambly andprobably all over the place. Lol
I found a few clips on Instagram about 4 weeks ago and washooked. Binged the show as it was giving me Iss Pyar Ko and Madhubala vibes.
The Characters:
Parvez, Safia, Nazima, Wasim, and Fatima – Can’tstand any of them. Some are written as very cliched such as Safia, Nazima andFatima. Husna is also over the top and comedic villain; plus, the first thingout of her mouth was about Mahid’s mom’s suicide. One would think that thewoman who claims to love him like a mother wouldn’t pick at the wounds thathave clearly not healed over times.
I’m excited for the day when Parvez’s true face comes in thefront of the world; not because I want Kausar or Seher’s pain to be avenged butmen like that need to be exposed. Menlike Parvez and Wasim who act as men of faith yet are very duplicitous andhorrible human beings. Just for TRP I would love for Mahid to beat the you knowwhat out of both. Lol
Dr. Fareed – Overall the character is okay, but I’mtruly confused regarding what kind of doctor he is. Is he a psychologist, psychiatrist, general doctor, a surgeon or a neurosurgeon? He has done all ofthese in the span of few episodes.
Dr. Sultana – Unsure about her she will likely teamup with the villain gang in the future to make Maher’s lives miserable. The onething I like about how her character is written is that even after being asuccessful doctor with a good husband she has so many insecurities.
Dada Huzur – I want them to transition him into asweet old grandpa. I adored his scene with Seher where they were joking duringthe walima. I also believe he is the ONLY person in Niyazi Manzil whogenuinely loves Mahid without any ulterior motive. As much I hate the fact thathe hid Seher’s age from him, I believe he did because it was probably the 1sttime since the death of his mother that he saw life and joy in his grandson’seyes.
Kausar - Truly can’t decide if I like Kausar or not.I understand her reasonings for doing everything she does, her world revolvesaround her only surviving child. That being said she is like a bull in a chinashop. I would like her to just pause and think things through before she doesanything. We know the life she and Seher had, it’s been a constant fight tosurvive but good grief she just makes things worst. All of her plans havegloriously backfired. Also now that Seher is married (let’s forget for a momentshe is underage) but who behaves that way at their child’s in-laws. If we takethis is a tv show out of the equation, Kausar’s actions would be 1000%justified in the real world. I would be rooting for a mother who would want topull her child out of these situations but since this is a TV show sheis just going to create more misunderstandings between Mahid and Seher. I knowher husband is a vile man and that’s how she paints Mahid which is notaccurate. Parvez is vile on the inside but puts on a good face whereas Mahid isangry, beats people but his heart is clean.
PS – Really not vibing with the potential future romancebetween her and Dr. Fareed.
Team Maher – Tahir, Amal and Asad - I simple adorethese 3 human beings. Asad is young but I do need to slowly impart what life islike for his Appi at home while at school to Mahid. Amal is young and feisty, and I do hope we see her more especially more interaction with Seher and potentiallyin the future a proper saali sahiba for Mahid who will annoy him. Lol
We need more Tahir on the show; after all he and Seher areon the same team now. Plus, his loyalty and true friendship with Mahid isheartwarming. He really understands his friend. It’s also nice to see the hint of annoyance and jealousy on Mahid’s facewhen Seher and Tahir tease him.
Seher - This is such a complex character. She has an innocencebecause she has been sheltered yet she is intelligent and doesn’t back downwhen something is wrong. I hope the show doesn’t take a typical desi show routewhen the main theme of her journey of becoming a doctor just disappears and itturns into a typical kitchen drama show. She also has own set of demons shehasn’t realized, the PTSD from growing up with Parvez. She trusts Mahid on somelevel but not yet with her true self yet and I cannot wait to see that fulltrust. Communication is key but then the misunderstandings would be cleared up,and the show wouldn’t last long.
Mahid – Good grief the trauma is real with this one. It’s not your typical mommy or daddy issues but actual trauma. To witness yourmother’s own suicide and the fact no one got him any real help has made himcreate this dark tunnel around him so no light can get in. No one can get closeenough to completely break him again. No one can get close enough to see theimmense pain from a wound that has never really healed. I do hope he findspeace with seeking treatment and with a companion like Seher.
Maher – What can I even say about these two together? They are glorious, heartwarming, heartbreaking. They make my heart flutter withjoy but the anxiety they give me is unreal. I’m not going to talk about the ageissue because they are both unaware, they have been lied to so even thoughthere is eek factor, I’m putting it on the back burner.
They are enchanting. I loved the picnic, mehndi and Nikahscenes; they were visually beautiful to watch but there was an underliningconnection that neither have grasped yet.
I recently read this tag on a fan edit – “This marriage isthe best thing that happened to the both of them.” It doesn’t seem like it tothem yet, but I think this is true. Seher might need physical protection, butMahid needs emotional safety. They are each other’s home. We have seen over andover again that neither wanted to get married, be it for different reasons; butsomething keeps pulling them into each other’s gravity. She is the calm in histurbulent life, and he is her protector and propellor. The kite metaphor that has been usedrepeatedly on the show mirrors their relationship. She wants to soar, but willhe be the anchor that pulls her down or a steady thread that always lets herknow where home is.
As for the more recent interactions between the two havebeen chaotic to say the least. Anger and lack of trust plays a thin veil forthe deeper connection and humanity that quickly takes over. This has been provenrepeatedly in the last 10 or so episodes. Seher making kheer, Mahid saving herfrom the exposed wiring and others which brings to the last episode on Feb. 20th.
This particular episode is a catalyst for change in theirrelationship whether for good or bad is to be seen. Personal opinion, the wholeepisode was gut wrenching to watch. Her need to escape like a caged bird, hisfrantic search and the final revelation and confrontation.
“The hug” bought excitement and comfort to a lot of fans butI may be in the minority, but it was painful to watch. It was two peopleclinging to a version of the other that never existed, taking a moment to reconcilewhat could have been and how do we move on from here because we are joined bymarriage.
I do hope this revelation at least starts a conversationbetween the two and a step towards at least friendship.
Future Tracks I do NOT want –
No finding some other brother who Nazima will marry to stayin the house but will be after Mahid.
No Husna’s son coming to live there, lusting after Seher, marrying Nazima so they can break up Maher.
No Mahid IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES marrying Nazima and makingSeher his first wife. I do not want to see Seher in this situation because itjust feels like she will be Kausar 2.0 and Mahid’s mother 2.0. Also is it acoincidence that the actress who plays Mahid’s mother in the flashback bares anuncanny resemblance to Seher; fair skin and light eyes??
Future Tracks I would like to see –
Seher becoming a doctor with Mahid’s support (I think hewill support her, but it will be an uphill battle to get there)
Mahid doing what he wants to do with his life. I feel he hasbeen told he will be Mufti once Dada husar retires but what’s his ambition?
This one is a must – Once Maher unite – that bond shouldremain. Throw obstacles but not this nonsense where someone whispers somethingand he is back to not trusting her. It’s typical trope of the desi shows andonly few shows have not done this and have gotten it right. I loathe theconstant back paddling, then misunderstanding gets cleared up and unite thenagain, more misunderstanding. UNITED and there should be a wall between themand the world.
One last thing - Curious about the so-calledhoneymoon track, is it just them or is it a family honeymoon? Has Kasuar orNazima tagged along?
A final question before I finish my very long TED talk – Whyis that in primarily desi fandoms do female fans always side with the main malelead even if he is wrong? Since Friday, I’m have a lot posts, edits, etc. thattake Mahid’s side; how he loves and she doesn’t love him etc. I don’t understand this narrative even when Iwas active in previous fandoms, they forcibly marry her, manhandle her but heis the victim? I don’t understand this. I’m not saying Mahid is at fault here becauseof circumstances, but is Seher also really at fault? Neither had free will whenit came to their wedding but hope they will when it comes their marriage.
Thank you to anyone who got to the end. I promise any futureposts won’t likely be this long. LOL
