Who says television artistes will remain television artistes? Gone are the days when producers and directors did not consider hiring TV stars for roles in films. Today, experience is what counts and with the television industry currently booming, TV artistes are finding themselves a place on the big screen.
"The idea behind not taking in television artistes earlier for films was the fact that their faces are already over exposed. For a film that needs a new and fresh face, producers and directors opt for someone who the audience has not seen before at all," says an industry source.
After the success of her Hindi TV serial, television actress Kulraj Randhawa has been getting a lot of film offers. "Today, experience is as important as a fresh face. Which is why many television artistes are now getting good roles in films. The television is big and booming today and can also be great training ground for newcomers. For my serial, I have worked non-stop for over seven months and I have learnt so much. It is this experience that I have had in front of the camera that film industry folks find more valuable. Your work on television is now like a platform, as anyone from the film industry who has seen your performance on television may want to cast you in a role in films," says Kulraj.
