I have had this thought for a long time . I d like to add few points

Both wanted a new world order

Both infiltrated the government and took it over discreetly

Muggle born registration is a lot like the jewish round up

Both were exceedingly proud of their self appointed names . The Dark Lord and The Furher

I was shocked cuz Hitler was supposed to have 7 duplicates made of him in case there is any assassination attempts on his life (ref : The book seven secrets of hitler ) I find the idea very close to horcruxes . Hitler would ensure that his enigma would continue .

Hmm...hadn't really thought of Voldemort in comparison to Hitler.

I thought (and JKR said so in an interview too) that it was Grindelwald that was inspired from Hitler? And even the timing of their being in power was the same and it was NOT a coincidence: 1930-145. I also think it not coincidental that world-war-2 ended in 1945 AND Grindelwald was defeated by Dumbledore in 1945.

Also the whole 'For the Greater Good' and the new world order can be thought of to be common between Grindelwald and Hitler.

As I see it, the difference between Grindelwald and Voldemort was that Grindelwald atleast had some sort of vision about how he could make the world a better place. Thoroughly twisted his ideas may be but atleast it was about trying to improve the world.

But Voldemort? The only thing HE wanted was to be the most powerful wizard in history and just RULE the world. He never ever had a vision about trying to improve the world...it was always about himself and everyone else being subservient to him.

I have done World History for a year in the US and I was pretty much interested in the World War 2 and stuff. 😆
And I know how the psychology of the good guys work, so did a little research on Voldy 🤣. JKR had mentioned he was kind of based on Hitler and Joseph Stalin, the Russian totalitarian.

@ BOLD: ROFLROFLThat part cracked me up. But yes, they are very similar - awesome post. All the characters of JKR are based on her observations of real people, she's just so good at this. 😆 But I think she's mentioned Harry is one character that just popped into her head (not based on anyone hmmm.)

I like to think of Harry as a bit of Jo.😊 Really, she has put in much of herself into him. They share the same birthdays and her trait of being really angry (mentioned this in some interview, I think). And a lot of what Jo personally believes in, finds a way into Harry's character and choices. 😊

Hermione is also supposed to be a "caricature of me when I was 11" and somehow I can't help but feel the forest of Dean is another connection between them. Jo's parents met in London and went north (like Hogwarts) and then they shifted to near the forest of Dean where Jo had gone as a young girl with them, the same as Hermione.
Ron is ofcourse based on her friend Sean.

I wonder on whom she based Dumbledore's character?

Okay, out of topic, so I'll shut up now.

Dumbledore knows EVERYTHING. I doubt there exists a human being in the world who knows that much lol. I guess we can equate many spiritual leaders to Dumbledore, but I think she has created him out of her imagination. True, JKR actually once mentioned that many characters in her book have a bit of herself in them.
