Adolf Hitler & Lord Voldemort- Similar Much :|

Hey friends,

Being a world history nut, I had this deep thought in my mind where I penned down the similarities (again, in my mind) between the character of Lord Voldemort with that of Adolf Hitler, the infamous Nazi leader. The very first thought that comes into my mind is their heritage...erm I mean their religion/blood and ancestry. Hitler was believed to be half-Jewish, while Voldemort is a half-blood wizard (his father being a muggle and his mother a witch).

Then comes their bad childhood. Neither of the two dictators were remembered to have a pleasant childhood. Both had nasty and depressing childhood, being a stepping stone for their deviation to the dark path. Just like Hitler had a particular dislike...make that hatred for the Jews and anyone he considered inferior to him. He went on to torture them, hurt them & eventually kill them. Similarly, Voldemort hated Muggle borns and anyone inferior to him and went ahead to kill them and torture him using curses like the Cruciatis Curse (ouch).

Just like Hitler gathered support and followers using his convincing power and ability to move the crowd with his words, Voldemort manipulated fellow wizards and gained supporters using his charm. Both had a manipulative nature. Just has Hitler remains one of the most feared and cruel dictators in human history, Voldemort continued to be the most feared and cruel dark wizards in the wizarding history.

That's not it. Remember the Wizarding War 1 & 2? Doesn't it bear an uncanny resemblance to the World War 1 & 2, especially the World War 2? The way how most of the Jews went into hiding, sometimes with their Christian friends or in confidence of their friends? That's the same way many wizarding families, including the Potters went into hiding using the Fidelius Charm! Also how Hitler had his secret army (the SS) to do the dirty work for him, Voldemort had the army of Death Eaters to do the dirty work for him.

Voldemort is in my honest opinion, a caricature of the cruel and evil Adolf Hitler itself. It's commendable how J.K. Rowling blended the real life happenings in our muggle world (the wars) perfectly with the wars in Harry's world. Voldemort is just as crazy, cruel and murderous as Hitler was. An real caricature...something I guess many didn't guess, and many crazy girls like me, did.

Note- This was not to mock at or make fun of the great authoress. I am myself a HUGE (an understatement of it's own) fan of J.K. Rowling, and aspire to reach her standards one day, as a writer myself. :)

Do comment,
Nidheya

Similar much? Yes!

I hadn't thought of this before but come to think of it now, it does make a lot of sense!
Rowling has surely made a nice comparison between both the worlds. Your analysis pretty much covers it all - the similarities between both the fictional character and the real-life figure are quite striking, to say the least!

Thanks a ton friends. :) :) :)
I have done World History for a year in the US and I was pretty much interested in the World War 2 and stuff. 😆
And I know how the psychology of the good guys work, so did a little research on Voldy 🤣. JKR had mentioned he was kind of based on Hitler and Joseph Stalin, the Russian totalitarian.

You know, I find myself thinking this every time I read Deathly Hallows! Your analysis is spot on, both really are very similar.
I think JKR did mention in an interview that Voldy was based off of Hitler.

  • There are many parallels to the notion of blood purity that exist in the Muggle world, largely in the form of racism. Examples of this being manifested include the Ku Klux Klan, discrimination against immigrants, and the persecution and mass murder of Jews, Roma, Slavs, so-called "Mischlings" and others by the Nazis known as the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler, promoting a society with a "pure Aryan race", is rumored to have had a Jewish ancestor.
  • J. K. Rowling consciously drew such parallels: "The expressions 'pure-blood', 'half-blood' and 'Muggle-born' have been coined by people to whom these distinctions matter, and express their originators' prejudice. As far as somebody like Lucius Malfoy is concerned, for instance, a Muggle-born is as 'bad' as a Muggle. Therefore Harry would be considered only 'half' wizard, because of his mother's parents. If you think this is far-fetched, look at some of the real charts the Nazis used to show what constituted 'Aryan' or 'Jewish' blood...the Nazis used precisely the same warped logic as the Death Eaters. A single Jewish grandparent 'polluted' the blood, according to their propaganda."[6]
  • As in the Harry Potter universe, these parallels in Muggle society have caused great strife, suffering, and cruelty in society.
  • An interesting fact of note is that despite the ideals that pure-bloods are inherently more powerful wizards, some of the most powerful or particularly adept wizards and witches in the series are in fact either half-blood (such as Lord Voldemort, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape and Harry Potter) or Muggle-born (such as Hermione Granger and Lily Evans).

I completely agree with you...I definitely see similarities between Hitler and Voldemort...

You can't help but draw similarities between the two...it kinda comes with the whole being a HP fan and having a love for history hehe...

Both were dictators, both did not actually fit the whole 'Aryan' and 'pureblood' thing they had going on...and both were the cause of so many deaths
😔 😔

I guess prejudice was something that blinded them both...

That is an incredible write up !

Hitler and Voldemort are similar in character.

1)Hitler was a half-blood, he was half German and Jewish, yet he dispised all Jewish people when he himself was one. This is just like Voldemort because Voldemort hates all Muggles and non magical people, yet he is is a half muggle.

2) Both voldemort and Hitler had devoted followers for Voldemort he had the Death Eaters and for Hitler he had the S.S.

3)Both Voldemort and Hitler believed there ancestery were superior to other people. Voldemort came from the Gaunts which came from a direct line from Salizar Slythern whom himsefl hated nonmagical people. Hitler believed he was part of the master race.

4) Both Voldemort and Hitler have a symbol. Voldemort has the Death Eater sign which is a scull with a serpant coming out of its mouth. While Hitler had the Swastica.

Hmm, I hadnt thought of it that way. You bring up some very good points. However, Voldemort's demise came from the fact that he didnt know how to love; whereas Hitler's untimely death came from wrong decisions. Other than that, your spot on! Good analysis.;)
