What men want...
Ambika of Suno...Har Dill can read male minds
Don't you wish you could read the mind of a man? Ambika, the protagonist of Suno…Harr Dill Kuchh Kehtaa Hai is in an enviable position indeed, for this young girl can do just that. As Suno…Harr Dill Kuchh Kehtaa Hai, the new daily from SaharaOne Television stable launches today at 10 pm, Niyati Joshi (who essays the character of Ambika) talks to us...
What is that one thing that you'd like to read about the male mind?
There have been many times in my life that I felt the need to have some power to read the male mind. It's never happened in reality, but I'm happy that at least on screen, my character can read the mind of men. Well, if I had such powers, I'd like to know why they stop themselves from emoting what they are feeling.
How did this new show Suno Har Dil Kuch Kehta Hai happen?
Contiloe Productions, which is producing this show, asked me to come in for an audition, but for another show. When they were in the process of casting for Suno…Harr Dill Kuchh Kehtaa Hai, they called me because they felt I was just appropriate for the role of Ambika, the lead protagonist. I couldn't get any luckier! But that time, I was in the midst of the Ponds Femina Miss India 2006 contest, so I got in touch with them after two months….after few screenings and auditions, I bagged the lead role-my first break in television as a lead protagonist.
How similar or different are you from your on-screen character Ambika Kapoor?
Ambika is very similar to me in the way that she too is bubbly and will go out of her way to help others. Besides, she is very positive in life. I guess these are the reasons why I could put myself almost entirely in Ambika's shoes. The only difference is that I'm not as religious as Ambika is, and you wont find me in salwar-kameez always, as you'd see Ambika.
Did you always want to do television?
I was already doing a lot of commercial ads for television and print. I've also done television shows like Kuch Love Kuch Masti on SaharaOne Television, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and Ek Ladki Anjani Si on Sony. So I can comfortably say that I'm not new to television-have been here around for about 2-3 years. But this is my first show where I play the lead.
How was your experience as a semi-finalist in the Ponds Femina Miss India 2006 contest?
That was one experience I will cherish all my life. I made sure I made the best use of all the training and grooming sessions we had and besides the rigorous regimes, we all girls had loads of fun together. It really helped me to grow up in many ways.
