Little known facts about Shaan
Going High
He's been singing since he was a kid and Shaan has entrenched himself pretty strongly in the music world. Not only that he also turned actor with Kalpana Lajmi's Daman. What is exciting Shaan at the moment is the fact that he has become a father. His airhostess wife and mother are thrilled too. His career is going great guns too-his album Bhool ja is being received well and his anchoring of the musical show Sa re ga ma pa is making him a household name.
He has earlier albums Tanha dil and Loveology to his credit. His Tanha Dil won him the MTV award for Favorite Indian artiste- pop category. This had Shaan as writer/composer and singer. He says with great lan "I'd written all the songs myself and composed four of them. But then even for my earlier album Loveology I'd written 5 songs myself." He grins and says, "If the older people understood us as we understand ourselves we wouldn't be writing our own songs".
In 'tanha dil" the words went 'ankhon mein sapne liye, ghar se hum chal to diye, jaane yeh raahein ab le jayengi kahan…….."
Not bad at all for a youngster you might think but it requires a lot of effort to write to metre and if this youngster has mastered that it requires a pat on the head. He says with perfect sangfroid "It takes more effort to explain to a writer what you need so I thought I'd write myself."
Shaaan and Saagarika have made quite a name for themselves-Shaan's 'musu musu haasi' in pyar mein kabhi kabhi' is still on everybody's lips and he's been getting quite a few film offers. He's sung for AR Rahman in One two ka four- for Aadesh Srivastava the number he's sung 'bas Itna sa khwab hai' along with his sister. Today most composers admit that he has a good voice and offers are pouring in
His forthcoming projects include big banners like the Rajshri's-'Main prem ki deewani hoon' composed by Anu Malik, Chura liya hai dil composed by Himesh Reshamiya, Kuch na kaho with the Sippy's. He sings in other Indian languges apart from Hindi. And that's saying something when you realise that he has had no formal training in music and that it's sheer interest that keeps him going. From pop music he's graduated to playback singing and that itself is a feather in his cap!
