Chapter 6

Pinky walked in angrily, threw her handbag on one of the empty couches. She started talking to herself pacing angrily. Geet who was watching TV turned around to see why pinky was so upset.
"What happened pinky?"
"Arey geet nothing serious. The PMS wali at work just annoyed the hell out of me today"
At geets questioning look she continued
"Apparently our boss returned from London today and he is coming to work on Monday. So she was primping and pampering herself while we had to work like dogs to get the place ready for him"
"And adi sir was not there either. He is a fair man and he does not pick on people who work beneath him"
"To top all this, that PMS wali has been threatening us all she is going to bring her best friend as our boss's secretary"
"Arghhh!! She is the heights. One is not enough; she already has a silly me assistant to tag along now this. Don't know what KC is going to look like if our boss chooses her to be the new secretary"
She was still pacing angrily, geet got up to get a glass of water pulled pinky to the empty couch.
"You are going too fast for me pinky cannot follow you. Here have this water first and tell me who is PMS wali, silly me slowly. I got the situation though, but who are these two I already met adi sir"
Pinky drank the water and took a deep breath, "oh! ya right, adi sir was in interview today at the institute".
Geet nodded.
"Ok, am better now. Well let me tell you our office story. PMS wali is who we call sasha aka sasha mam by all"
"But why PMS wali"
"That is because she seems to have PMS for the whole time. She is always cranky, moody and mean to all. The only person she is not with is our DD aka boss"
"DD?"
"DD is our dhak dhak. Our boss, who is drop dead gorgeous, elegant, classy and a larger than life personality. He makes all our heart go pitter patter every time we see him"
She took on a dreamy look..."you have to see him to believe it geet" (she sighed longingly)
"Ok, Ok now calm down and tell me more about the people at your workplace". She did not want to distract her anymore. She needed more information.
"The next in line is silly me that is tasha. Sasha's chamchi and assistant, who always does something stupid and calls herself silly me. So we all decided to call her silly me. Well that's all anything sensible that she does or says"
"And you have already met adi sir, who is the head of finance and operations while sasha is the head of projects and designs"
"So these two are the key figures following MK who is the boss of KC"
"Anyhow, office was chaos today because of that chamchi and PMS wali and along with the threat of a new secretary everyone were freaking out as if these two are not enough they are going to bring in more like these two. Arghh!!"
"Pinky calm down, I don't know about the Sasha and Tasha but I can assure you that they are not going to bring in any secretary from their side. I am the new secretary for your boss". Geet smiled naughtily at pinkys look.
It was rare for her to ever get the best of pinky, but this was one of those moments and it was worthwhile.
In the last two months so many things have changed, she has started living again letting go of the past. The wounds are still there but buried deep inside where it does not hurt anymore.
She has to thank pinky and her father for this change. She and pinky had bonded like true sisters and as best friends would. They have similar tastes, likes and dislikes. But pinky is the stronger one; she is always blunt and upfront about her feelings and knows how to handle sensitive situations too. Since she was born and brought up here she understands different people quickly and deals with them accordingly.
But now geet is learning from pinky, she started getting bold and stronger too. She now knows how to handle different people a bit better and be more bold and courageous.
Pinky looked at geet for a full minute without comprehension, but the minute she understood she started jumping up and down. She looked up and said
"Thank you god, thank you so much.. You have answered all my prayers now"
"Arey geet, you just made my day. Let me get you something sweet", she ran to the kitchen opened the candy jar picked up a handful ran back and popped in geets mouth.
"Wow you serious geet, please don't play with me you are or new boss's secretary"
She wasn't waiting for an answer as she continued
"Oh great! But I thought you are joining IP, what happened to that?"
Geet was laughing at pinky's million questions. Once she stopped, geet explained everything about her change of mind and how in the last moments her heart led her to take up KC.
Pinky was very excited; 'geet was going to work with her'.
"So you are starting on Monday. Great, you are gona fall in love with our DD just like all of us. He is too good looking to be true he looks like a model to be sure, haye. You wait until Monday you are going to be awed"
Geet was still laughing at pinky's expression. She doubted she was going to fall in love with DD as she called her boss. But she dint want to disappoint her either so she kept smiling.
"But I have to warn you though as much as he looks like an Adonis he is cranky and ill tempered too. He expects everything perfect from his clothes to staffs who work for him and his work"
Geet sobered hearing the warning, 'what if her boss is mean and hateful'. After looking at geet's nervous face pinky stopped, "chal why talk about him now you are going to meet him on Monday and you make the decision yourself"
"For now let's celebrate geet" and both walked hand in hand to the kitchen to cook a feast to celebrate.

Monday
Maan woke up with a spring in his steps eager and anticipative. Today was going to be a great day for him. Life was back to normal as normal as it can get for him at least.
Everything for the last 2 months went without a hitch. He even stopped thinking about geet almost every day which is great as he was thinking about her almost every moment of his.
His work in London went very well, dadi was happy the whole time as they spent a lot of quality time together. London projects moved without a hitch which is what any boss could ask for and he is feeling on top of the world now.
He smiled a genuine happy smile which the world will never see. No one knows the real Maan Singh Khurana, according to the world he was an enigma and he preferred it that way. World has taught him many tough lessons and one among them is to keep everyone at a distance so everyone fears you and respects you.
Fear of him and his wealth has gone a long way in getting everything done without too much persuasion. Today the name MSK really lays terror in the hearts of some and he prefers it that way. He always win against his rivals or enemies.
Now that he is back in Delhi, he is determined to get KC on the Top 10 companies in India. He has some great projects lined up to be signed and the remaining part of the year looked a lot promising. This was going to be great.
However he tried forgetting, there was still a part of him wanting to know what happened to geet. But he decided to let sleeping dogs lie and he is going to stick with that decision. If he talked to her or her family the whole drama would unfold in his mind again and it is better he stays away from geet for his own sanity. He took a deep breath and shut the door on those thoughts and continued with his morning routine.
His phone rang when he was finishing up and tying his tie as his final preparation to leave to office. He picked it up,
"Hello, yes adi were you able to hire a secretary yet!"
"Yes s-s-sir, all done. All your requirements are met and she s-s-starts from today"
"Good adi, Can you ask her to start by organising HOD meeting in say 2 hrs after her induction"
"Yes s-s-sir, will be done"
"That's all for now adi" he hanged up.
It was time...

Geet was at the office it was half past eight and she was getting a quick tour of the office by pinky as per adi sir's instruction. So far everything looked good, geet got to meet PMS wali and silly me and they were not good to her. They made comments about her old fashioned dressing style but she ignored them, only nodding to them acknowledging pinky's introduction.
Adi walked up to geet, "just s-s-spoke to our boss. He wants you to organise an HOD meeting in 2 hrs. He will be here anytime now. Pinky will show you where the files are kept and how the intercom system works. I will send you the copy of paper works you need to fill later on. Good luck!! See you later"
Geet turned around to see pinky, pinky was looking at adi sir as he was walking away.
"Pinky", geet shaked her.
Pinky quickly turned around to geet questioningly, "show me the intercom and tell me where do I get HOD details please. Need to schedule a meeting"
"Right meeting lets go, the file is in DD's cabin. I will show it to you and also the intercom and then you can organise it on your own. I better get back to work before boss walks in as well"
Half an hour later Maan walked in to his office. Everyone were where they should be
"Morning MK", said Sasha
He acknowledged her with a slight nod of his head. The rest he just looked at not acknowledging them.
Sasha whispered to Tasha, "Now watch the fun. That behenji sure would have not scheduled the meetings and is going to be fired in one day. Then I can bring my best friend sweety to work here" she smiled triumphantly.
Tasha nodded her head and smiled with her, "yes Sasha...I mean silly me... Sasha mam. That behenji will learn her lesson today"
Maan walked into his cabin to see someone standing facing away from him, flipping through a file. By the looks of her he assumed it must be his secretary, but for some nagging reason he found her very familiar. He couldn't put his fingers why he felt that way but he did. Well there is one way to find out; he walked up to her "so are you the new secretary"
Geet who was concentrating on the file did not hear anyone coming to the room nor someone moving. So when she heard someone's voice right behind her she was spooked she threw the file, turned around and tripped over the chair by the table and was falling...
Maan caught her just in time before she must have had a nasty fall. He looked at her.... it was her he thought, the women who haunted his every waking and sleeping moments for the past 2 months relentlessly.
He was able to look at her finally after 2 months of wondering and worrying what happened to her. Her honey gold eyes were still innocent, her pert nose, bow shaped mouth, the stubborn chin. She was still as beautiful the day he met her.
But the next moment he was angry, beauty in a women is something he distrusts. They use it as a weapon against innocent men to get what they want. She had fooled him many times in hoshiarpur. He is not going to fall for that guileless innocent look again. He pulled her up immediately so he can get away from her. He immediately moved back to put some distance between them.
Geet was surprised to see him but at the same time happy. His chocolate brown eyes raked her, she was feeling antsy... she always did around him. So many memories were running in her mind, but she remembered her last thought she wanted to thank him. She dint know why he was here but she was definitely going to say a kind word or two and thank him for his help that night.
His eyes turned bitter and cold looking at her, she dint understand. In her nervousness she took offence immediately. What was he getting angry about?
"You" said Maan angrily.
"Yes me!"
He was surprised at her retort, but he dint show it.
"Geet what are you doing here"
She was getting angrier by the minute, he was the only acquaintance she knew but he was acting so cold and distant she was ready to give him a piece of her mind.
"Oh well I was window shopping and thought this building looked really nice. So came in to buy it and what are you doing here?" she asked smiling
Maan was looking at her shocked, 'was she sassing him'
"Geet tell me what are you doing here or you will be escorted out by the security"
Now she was real angry
"Well I might have to warn you the same thing as you are standing in my boss's cabin and I happen to be his secretary. So stop threatening me, I might have to take it up with him. I don't think you have an appoint so go and wait in the visitors room please"
She shooed him away and with that she turned her back on him and started with the file again.
Maan was stupefied; this must be one of those days he thought when god decided to play with him. This must be irony, here he is trying to forget her and move on and she was standing in front of him as his secretary.
"I am your boss geet", he said icily.
She turned around in a whoosh, "No you are not. Your name is not MK".
He continued in his icy tone, "Maan Singh Khurana ' MSK/MK is me"
Geet's hands froze on the file; this must be a joke a cruel joke. He was her boss and she was sassing him. 'Babaji what have you got me into this time, working with him. Oh no this is going to be a night mare, but she can't leave this job either she was on a probationary contract for 3 months'.
She tried to clear her throat and say a few words, but she was choking on her own words. Looks like the staff were already forming a group to see the commotion outside. She turned and looked at them, today she was going to be humiliated but her savior turned around and gave them a look of such disdain, every one scurried back to their seats.
He closed the cabin door with one hand and asked, "So you have an answer geet"
"Yes sir, I am your secretary from today and I was scheduling the appointment for you" she choked out
"Fine I will be in the conference room and ask adi to meet me there now"
She nodded and he walked away.
He did not want to say anymore, he was torn between her helplessness and wanting to fire her. But he is not going to, by the looks of her something must have happened for her to be here and away from her family. So what happened after he left hoshiarpur, he will get to the bottom of it. But first he needs to know how she got hired, he need to speak to adi...
