I don't like Ash, Katrina taking credit away from me

Alisha Chinai says she's fed up of actresses taking credit for chartbusting songs sung by her

Alisha Chinai whose chartbusters includes Kajraa Re (Bunty Aur Babli) and Tera Hone Laga Hoon (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) has decided not to do playback singing anymore.

Says the obstinate singer, "Aishwarya and Katrina are beautiful women. But sorry, I didn't enjoy watching them pretending to sing my songs Kajraa Re and Tera Hone Laga Hoon.

It's so ridiculous! Would you ever see Julia Roberts singing in Madonna's voice? This practice of ghost voices just spooks me out. I can't do it anymore. Sorry."

Who knows Mamta?

Alisha's latest grievance is over the chartbuster Munni Badnaam Hui. She protests, "Who knows it is sung by Mamta Sharma? Everyone sees it as Malaika's song."

So what's the solution? "I've none. I can't fight the system. For years and years, the heroines have been walking away with the credit for songs sung by us playback singers.

Today things have come to such a pathetic and sorry state that no one knows the singers' identity any more.

Who knows I sang 'Tera Hone Laga' for Katrina and 'It's Rocking'' and 'Bebo Main Bebo' for Kareena? In fact, many people think they sang these numbers."

Alisha not only finds this continual de-recognition of playback singers degrading but also unacceptable. Says the livid singer, "I've told my manager to not entertain any offers for playback singing. I can't do it.

In the past, I saw Sridevi walk away with all the raves for my song Kate Nahin Katate in Mr India. It hurt even then. I'd rather sit at home jobless than allow my talent to be used to further any actress' popularity."

Alisha hopes to revive the era of non-film albums. "I know I'm being unrealistic. But I can't help it.

Either I'll sing in non-film albums or let the singer also do music videos of songs that heroines lip-synch to on screen. I know other singers just sing their songs, take the peanuts offered as remuneration and go home.

I can't do that. I won't be exploited in this way. Pay me and give me my due credit. Or I am out of here."

Actually as a singer myself I completely understand where Alisha ji is coming from. She is absolutely correct! As much as I love her singing, I think her decision is correct. She deserves her due credit as well as the other singers.

I actually agree with her. It's sad though
But the old days, people praised the singers more and that's why Lata, Rahat and so many other singers are being famous. But in this new time, the singers are not even mention. If the song is superhit, they give the credit to the actresss or actor

I agree with her. They should place the singer's name prominently on screen, not just flash it by. In US they don't have lip synching, they should do the same in India.

I guess I'm able to connect with Alisha's ji's standpoint a whole lot because I myself am a singer. Of course I'm not a well known singer like she is, but I understand where she is coming from.

How many of us know the magic voices behind some of the more popular recent sound tracks?

Singers are certainly underrated in our days today. I don't even think Alka ji & Kavita ji for that matter have been recognized for some of their not so popular song numbers. Its really a shame that we fail to give due credit to the singers.

I think actresses should sing their own songs. I have heard aish sing in one song and she has sweet voice. And priyanka has sexy voice that suits her personality. When deepika was singing her song, it sounded like the original singer shilpa rao. So I think they should sing their own song
shruti hassan singed her own here. I liked her voice

I think it's the very reason Sonu Nigam has reduced singing in BW movies, although he does sing a song here and there for people like Farah.

I agree with her point but it seems very unrealistic plus didn't she thank Aishwarya for looking beautiful or something inane like that in her award acceptance speech when she won a filmfare for Kajra Re....

That's true. But the singers that sing for srk sound exactly like srk. When SRK was using he's own voice in the movie Josh for a song, I couldn't tell the different between the singers and he's voice😆

But why would she have to thank Aishwarya for it?

I don't think Aish is the main reason the song was a success. Yes it was part of the reason it became a huge hit. But I think its much more important to thank the music related people for the award. And if she hardly ever gets recognized for her songs then I don't think she needs to thank the actress who "acted" in the song!
