White feels right: Carol Gracias |
After experimenting with gold coins and coral, designer Manish Malhotra is now moving to lace, hakoba and crochet.
The designer, who claims to have had enough of "colour outbursts", has brought out an all-white collection, titled Freedom, to showcase at the Lakme Fashion Week 2006.
No norms
As far as the theme is concerned, the designer says he's inspired by the soul-liberating philosophy of Sufism.
Says Malhotra, "Freedom works on two levels for me. My clothes celebrate the spirit of the modern woman who does not carry the baggage of accepted norms to look beautiful. The collection is devoid of any shine and sequins. At the same time, it's my freedom from depending heavily on vibrant colour."

It's all about tapping the natural world and getting tuned to world music — that's Malhotra's mantra this year.
Do we see Bolly women wearing his clothes in their films? Says Malhotra, "I do the costuming for the films. And if the character suits it, why not?" We hear the designer took a personal interest in the music.
"I'm very fond of Sufi music. And I have used a few Abida Parveen tracks for the ramp shows," he adds.
