



Rakesh Dubey: 'There are myths about donating blood in our society'
Rakesh Dubey is a famous director of the small screen. He has directed serials like Ramayan, Kasam Se, Ganesh Leela, Hatim and many more. He has also worked as an assistant director for films with Tinu Anand, Boby Raj, Ram Govind etc. Besides being a director he is also an actor and a writer. Gglares met him to talk about his latest venture 'Nayi Chetna', a short film based on Blood donation. Over to Rakesh…
GG: Tell us about your short film.
RD: There are myths about donating blood in our society, specially in the interior areas. Rural people do not donate blood so I have made this film to explain that blood donation is not harmful.
GG: What is the story?
RD: It is a story of a couple from a village, where the wife is pregnant and the couple goes to the hospital for a checkup. At the same time there comes an emergency case of a boy who urgently needs blood. The husband refuses to donate blood inspite of the wife insisting him to. After a few days the wife meets with an accident. She needs blood urgently and the husband now requests people of the village to donate blood but everybody refuses. And then… The films ends on a positive note.
GG: Where has the film been shot?
RD: It has been shot in Kota, in Rajasthan.
GG: Why there?
RD: I needed real location. In Kota there was the village atmosphere and a hospital too. I felt that was the right location.
GG: For whom have you made the film for?
RD: It is under my own production house Satyavati Films International. I have made it for ISBTI (Indian society of blood transfusion and Immuno Hematology). Dr. V.P.Gupta is the president of the institute.
GG: And who are the artists?
RD: The lead pair is 'Ramayan' fame Gurmeet Chaudhary and Debina Mukherjee. Other actors are Sandeep Mohan, Kailash Kaushik, Shashi Sharma etc.
GG: What is the duration?
RD: Editing work is going on but it will be almost 30 to 40 minutes.
GG: How many days have you shot?
RD: I completed in 4 to 5 days.
GG: Where will you show the film?
RD: I will give the film to the Health Ministry and show it in film festivals too. And yes of course we will show it in villages and also in fairs that happen in villages and small towns.
GG: Is there music in the film?
RD: Yes there is one song 'Nayi subah ke surya ne bhar diya utsah se' sung by Manoj Mishra. It is a motivational song.
GG: Tell us about your acting experience.
RD: I have acted in serials like Ajanabi. Also played lead role in Basu Bhatacharya's film Durga. The film achieved a National award in 1992. I have played guest appearance in this short film at the end.
GG: What are your next projects?
RD: Sagar film's serial 'Yodhdhha' and an untitled film are in the pipeline. The film is a social comedy revolving around two families.
