The less secure a man is, the more likely he is to have extreme prejudice
There are only two kinds of men: the righteous who believe they are sinners, the sinners who believe they are righteous ~ Blaise Pascal
I am grateful that I am not as judgmental as all those censorious, self-righteous people around me
Krishna gets out of Aman's grasp. "What?" he challenges. Aman sitting astride his white horse named "Righteous" speaks down to Krishna "You are not doing the right thing Krishna ". Krishna argues "I am doing the right thing, you won't understand. This is not your court. Here it's the people's court, that's how it works here, instant judgment handed down by the people. It's not like your court where it takes years to get justice for a common man". The crowd gathered there is watching the two face off, grabs the thief as he tries to escape and the crowd grabs and beats him. Why are Mrs. Mathur, Komal and Arushi there? Can't they wait in their car like shareef people? Did Aman bring them along so he can give them some snobbish entertainment by insulting a few of his sasural in public?
It takes a long time to learn that a courtroom is the last place in the world for learning the truth~ Alice Koller
Much of the self-righteous nonsense that abounds on so many subjects cannot stand up to three questions: (1) Compared to what? (2) At what cost? and (3) What are the hard facts
Prats shouts to the crowd " Stop it, who are you and why are you beating him? He stole her purse she can get her justice in court acc' to the law, not by beating him and being cruel. It's not right!" You want to talk about right, Prats? Was it right for you to slap Angad a second time at your maike when he didn't attack you? What about the time you slapped Krishna at your engagement? Even recently Arushi hit KN with her slippers after he had let her go. He wasn't being a physical threat anymore. She stalled then made a public spectacle by hitting him in front of his whole family? Why didn't you call the police? Why didn't you have him arrested or file a police report then? Kesar could have been spared her baby with KN rotting in jail? Why did you two educated, shareef girls of Mumfordgunj hide the whole incident from your family as if it was as trivial as you had just snuck out to the movies? Before you go around accusing others of not doing things right, you could consider some self-evaluation for your own good that will spare Krishna so much heartache. Krishna steps in front of Prats "If one follows your path, the man will be broke following the court system, you know that? When he looks back on his life he'd realize he could've spent more time with his family rather than going to court for justice".
Of course crime on our streets is a very important issue. But you and I know that these things are not unconnected with issues of social justice.~ Oliver Letwin
There's sort of a smug, self-righteous smirk that he has. People want to punch him in the face.~ Ray Murphy
Hoity-toity Aman presiding over the situation with folded arms steps forward to continue the baashan when Prats stops. He addresses Krishna "If your path to justice has to be followed doesn't mean you can pick on anyone on the street and beat him up". Excuse me, legal counsel, he didn't pick on anyone on the street just for the heck of it. He was stopping a crime in progress. Didn't Prats just give him a speech about "it being a greater sin to watch a crime and do nothing about it than committing a crime? Now that he does just that he gets a earful of baashans again? Krishna responds sarcastically "Do you want me to do pooja? If he does these kinds of things then we have to punish it". Aman comes back with his rebuttal "By the same accounts your legs and arms should also be broken. Gunde badmash is no better than the men doing these acts". The two men face each other not ready to back down. Is this a symbolism posture of the nature of things to come, which is likely to pitch sisters against each other?
There's the judicial system and then there's street justice ~ Morris Reid
Prats, ready to diffuse the stand-off between the two men steps forward, "Krishna what is this childishness? Aman is saying the right thing. HUH? Nice going Prats, thank you for small favors. Krishna stands up for you against his family and this is your way of showing him your gratitude by insulting him making it a public spectacle while you are at it? Tsk, tsk, tsk. "If we take the law into our own hands and punish by our own accounts what happens to the system of justice?" Yeah! Now answer your own question, will ya? "After all government and ruling have a place too". Krishna fuming at this baashan "You educated people are teaching me all your book knowledge. I know well about these three words, sarkar, shaasan and vywastha and you are giving me a speech about it".
Justice has nothing to do with what goes on in a courtroom; Justice is what comes out of a courtroom~Clarence Darrow
Prats argues "I am telling what is right." Why don't you admit Prats, it's just your version of what is right, sounds more like self-righteous. "Whatever punishment the man deserves the law will give it to him". Prats get a reality check, lady. At least once in a while see the reality for what it is. The court has neither time or resources to take on these petty theft cases when they have bigger fish to catch for bigger crimes. Case in point, SS's murder from over a decade ago that he openly admitted to his mother during that daadi-ganti dance by Ganti Dadi. "We shouldn't take the law into our own hands". Krishna is vexed "Law, law, law, are you Law's wife or my wife? In the name of this petty theft you have thrown my respect to the dogs in the marketplace in front of everyone". Well, Baba you turned around and insulted her in public for stepping on your self-respect. The score is settled. You guys need to stop making a public spectacle of yourselves airing your differences in public.
Laws should be like clothes. They should be made to fit the people they serve.
Frustrated, Krishna turns to hit the thief again when Aman interferes. He pushes an advancing Aman like a weak branch of a tree effortlessly out of his way. Aman comes back to confront Krishna who raises his fist ready to punch Aman in the face😡. Prats comes in between to stop Krishna while Arushi runs to Aman's defense and holds his hand in support. Can you see the beginnings of a rift in the worlds of two sisters all thanks to Aman who seems to think he is the torchbearer of justice. The Saxes will rue the day they met Aman Mathur very soon. The police arrives and thanks Krishna for catching the man they had been looking for quite a while. He promised the thief wouldn't be fit for thievery let alone have a glass of water! So Aman's way means the thief is going to be beaten to a pulp too? Interesting! Police do have a reputation for abusing prisoners at times for no reason. So how is Krishna's street justice wrong here? The police are a governmental agency and therefore licensed to abuse criminals and get away with it more often than not? Not a word to Aman, the lawyer. Hahaha! Now that's ironic! Hey Prats, why do you look so surprised at the inspector's words? You have much to learn about your husband. Do attempt to learn more about him first before fixing every one else's problems.
Krishna communicates his displeasure at Prats's behavior in public with a cold stare and walks away. Prats turns to Aman and apologizes on Krishna's behalf. But why Prats! Krishna doesn't think he did anything wrong. Are you trying to run his self-respect into the ground to appease Aman, the honewala damadh? Aman you must have a sore seat by now still sitting on that goda of of righteousness. He says "You don't have to apologize Prats, some people have to be left alone". Who are you talking about Aman? You want Prats to leave Krishna alone? Why may be ask? Stop talking in riddles. We know it's a family trait and it's too much to ask that you be candid like Krishna. Aman introduces Prats to Mummy Mathur. She praises Prats "the way you handle the situation was very brave". Prats flashes a smile with pride. Well she knows Krishna loves her so she pushes him around. One of these days she can't expect him to take on her constant put downs in public, then let's see how bahaduri she really is when she has to take on those rowdy fellas on the street. Remember how she ran when Angad was chasing her down the streets? Well she will be back to those days. Prats, you are taking your husband too much for granted. For goodness sake at least have the common sense not to insult him in public and humiliate him without a second thought. We have said this to you before, if you truly love him and value him as an equal, his better half to your bitter half then treat him as you would treat yourself, not insult and ridicule him in the name of your self serving righteousness. But when do you listen to anyone? All these months of treating him despicably in the early months of marriage your eyes were opened by Krishna when he gave you that speech about trust. He told you point blank not to treat him like an enemy to your face. Do you need a book to say that before you will accept it? Some worldly knowledge have come from people who have real life experiences. It won't hurt you to give him a listen once in a while for you have much to learn. If he is willing to respect and hear you out when you give him the baashans, why can't you give him the same courtesy?
For us it's about family. It affects my family ~ Jocelyn Almeida
After a quick hello Prats to Mummy Mathur, Prats runs after Krishna who has walked away from her and the rest of the family. First you insult Krishna and then you run after him wanting to pacify him. Komal didn't even say hello to him? Hmmm!
Mummy Mathur asks Aman "who is Krishna?" Arey Mummyji, seems like you finished reading the Ramayana and now you want to know who Rama is? Didn't you hear Krishna tell Prats she insulted him, her husband in public? What were you doing standing here watching all this tamasha? Prats attempts to speak to Krishna but he is in no mood for it. Why should he after the way she cut him off at the knees in public. Shameful of you Prats! You claim to love Krishna yet the way you treat him in public is still the same way you did when you despised him. What gives? Aman tells his mother that Krishna is Prats's husband and his sister is Adarsh's wife. Mummy gets nervous, if Papa Mathur finds out the family is involved with gunde badmaash, societal enemy like SS he won't accept any ties into this kind of family. Aman is adamant "Not everything goes according to father's plans. Arushi's family matters to us not her sister's sasural. Sure you want things to go your way too. How are you any different from your father or Krishna in your ziddi ways? Mummy is nervous, she is yet again in a fix in her family.

All honor's wounds are self-inflicted. ~Andrew Carnegie
At TN, Kesar indulges in a healthy exercise of self-talk in front of the mirror. "There is no place for me in this house. I have to give up the right to be a wife too." As usual Takurain comes in bearing gifts and interrupts her with a devious plan of her own. In her saccharin sweet voice she begins her talk to convince Kesar to let KN remarriage go acc' to plan. Kesar sits there with her lips zipped, a great choice when dealing with Takurain. Prats should adopt this once in a while to maintain the peace in the family and make Krishna's life less miserable. Takurain begins "I understand your concerns and you should consider ours too. Our future generation has to move on, after all that has happened this family still loves you a lot. Know what happened to me, after a year of marriage when I didn't get pregnant Ganti Dadi made my life hell. She was ready to get SS remarried, which was sweet music to his ears. Luckily God gave me KN and then I got my freedom. A woman left by her husband ,where will you go then to protect your honor? Let KN marriage happen, you continue to stay as the big bahu in this house and rule over it. Yeah right! Like you are going to give it up. You Takurain, are a conartist to the core. She unfolds the gifts "all this is for you. Look how heavy they are, you can keep all this. The new bride will want modern jewels. Not to worry, I am here, the second wife will come as your younger sister, will respect you and listen to you. Let what ever is happening, happen. Trust my word". Kesar we don't know when and if you are going to wake up and take a stand for your own welfare.
SS,SDS are enjoying a cup of chai when Prof. arrives and stalls on the doorstep. Why Shamu? It's not like it's the first time you are entering after the coal-face painting? You came for Krishna's b'day celebrations uninvited and walked right in without hesitation, so why now? POPs you've been busted for a blooper! When he eventually enters SS tells Prof. there must be a special reason for his unannounced arrival as he has come with his wife. A nosy KN feeling like Adam is fooling around with a knife and apple in hand asks "is it's a love marriage. A lot of that is happening among the educated "advanced" people of these times". Prof. explains this is an arranged marriage with families' blessings and they knew each other before as it is important for a guy and girl to know each other as they have to live with each other😲😕. Is this a hint at how Arushi and KN's marriages are likely to hit a snag right out of the gates? SS gives a smug smile. KN doesn't let it end. "But Arushi looks like the type to go for a love marriage." The Saxes get very uncomfortable.
That which we call a snob by any other name would still be snobbish ~ William Makepeace Thackeray
In a rush to change the subject Nainaji wants to see Prats. Amma not one to let this chance slip speaks up. "Prats is the queen of this house. When she beats the drum Krishna dances! SS is enjoying her insults. She has gone out with her servant out on the town. She never tells us where she is going or when she will be back. When she returns we'll find out. Takurain, all you are left now is name calling your son now?😲😕

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn ~ Alvin Toffler
Right on cue, Prats and Krishna return. Prats who follows a fast walking Baba into the house as if she was about to plead her case to him suddenly notices her Mummy Papa and rushes to meet them in excitement all thoughts of pacifying her husband gone out the window''.just like that the idea udd gayi purrrrrrrr. She greets her Mummy and Papa excitedly. Krishna greets his sasurji with respect. Prof invites Krishna to come to the engagement with his whole family. Krishna gives a candid response "I am not certain about me, but Prats will def. come?😲 Nainaji speaks up "Why just Prats you have to come too? Why you, the whole family has to come and participate in the engagement". Prof. is already looking worried probably wishing he had just called. Krishna speaks from his heart, the truth spills out👏. "What will we do joining educated people like you? Bulleye Zinger👍🏼! "I am uneducated illiterate; I don't have the manners to speak like you people. I am clean of heart, on such a joyous occasion can't keep my mouth shut so I may say something and unnecessarily you would get angry". Well, you deserved that Prats after the way you treated him on the street! Hope you are reflecting on your behavior for once. His sasural have no response to his pointed statements. He does pranaam to his sasurji and storms off to his room. Prats tries to salvage the situation and tells her parents not to take Krishna's words seriously since he is in a bad mood. Well, who killed his mood on the way after lunch? Very unique and really nice way to say thank you to Krishna for a delightful lunch date. Cut out that fake smile and pretense of happiness will ya? Didn't Krishna just tell your folks he is clean of heart and there is no pretense about him. Rather than spending all your time trying to reform him, why don't you invest some valuable time learning a few fundamentals from him about life that is never taught at a University and if they did, it's obvious you missed a few classes. She assures her parents "Don't worry we will all come there on time and the engagement will go well. Don't you need to run that by your sasural before you cheerfully give your word? Your mother in law may want to stick it to you and refuse to go just for the heck of it.
The value of identity of course is that so often with it comes purpose ~ Richard R. Grant
Prof. tells SS "you are our samandhi so it's important that you come and bless my daughter". That's a tough call. SS saw Arushi joota maar KN right before his eyes. "You have already met the groom Aman Mathur. His father is IG of Allahabad. SS's ears perk up as the wheels start spinning in his head a fabric on an hidden motive and agenda already weaving itself. SS enunciates slowly "Sarwesar Dayal Mathur?" Prof. not cluing into his tone animatedly responds "Yes, you recognized him correctly". Ok, Papa Mathur has a name. Now what in the world is Mummy Mathur's name? UCAs find the answer pronto.
Preview: KN asks SS "Why are you planning all these as if I am marrying Arushi?" SS whose actions are always dictated by selfish intent replies "Do you know who her father in law is? IG Police of Allahabad, as a relative all our legal problems will be resolved." Dream on SS! You haven't met SDMathur just yet. He is not the type to kow down to your plans. Let the games begin, more discord and dissension between these three dysfunctional families.
TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK.......the Arushi Apple Pie is cooking in the oven with a secret ingredient being the joota-maar peet she gave KN and hid from her parents upon Prats's suggestion. When the apple pie explodes how many of you are going to be burnt by this?
Aman your case is on wobbly legs. After all the speech you gave Krishna, let's see how you handle the truth when you come back with your brother for his bail hearing and we'll see what you have to say then. Let's see how sachchai feels when you hear the truth about Arushi taking the law into her own hands and slapping KN with her joota? Will you leave her alone like you suggested to Prats today? And why would you want her to leave Krishna alone if that was your implication? Prats is his wife and it's better you don't stick your nose in other people's marriages and make sure you have a stable one of your own to start with. You're marrying a girl you know nothing about, so mind your own store first, will ya?
