Navraatri are the nine nights which bestow deep rest to all of Parkriti (Creation).
The rest is of three kinds: physical, mental and spiritual. All problems, botherations and negative forces a human can possibly face come under these. And Navraatri is what frees man from these negative forces.

Just as the consiousness of soul is washed and purified of all previous contamination in the nine months in the mothers womb, Navraatri is celebrated to free the body, mind and soul of all tamas and restore innocence of consiousness as in a new born child.

The demons which are slayed by the Devi are also patterns of human behaviour or psychological disorders, ie inertia and fatigue (mahishasur), doubt and procrastination (shumbh nishumbh), diseases (raktabeej), megalomania, etc. which are cured by the Devi Shakti, which is a Maatr Shakti (meaning feminine in nature).

Navraatri takes and welcomes the entire creation and gives solace, peace and freedom to all.
