Buddies Shital Thakkar and Rinku Karmarkar have often taken off on quick getaways, especially when they have days off from shooting. "We would end up at places like Kashid, Alibag, Lonavla or Pune," says Shital, who featured as Kajal in SaharaOne's Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai and will next be seen in Sony's Rishton Ki Dorr.

"A holiday means we call each other and in a few hours, hit the road," adds Rinku who plays Chhaya in Star's Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. "The biggest thrill would be the spur-of-the moment planning for the trip," points out Shital whose routine call to Rinku on February 23 ended in a four-day trip to Thailand!

Off and away

"We both realised that for the next few days, we were free and nothing special was happening. We talked of going somewhere real far — out of the country. In Bangkok, we can obtain visas on arrival, so an impulse trip was be possible. We immediately had the bookings done. Tickets were available for a late night flight the same day!"

So Shital (sans stockbroker hubby Ritesh Kothari) and Chhaya — minus her actor husband Kiran Karmarkar (Om of Kahaani) — but along with kid Eshaan ("I can't think of a holiday without my son") were airborne within hours. "We had decided to make this trip on our own; we know how to enjoy ourselves without them.

We did not even do any hotel bookings; we managed it all there. In fact, on Republic Day, we had taken off for Lonavala and my husband Kiran was shocked that we could just take off without any bookings," says Rinku who recently bagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her big screen debut Bhojpuri film, Ghar Duaar.

In Bangkok, besides savouring the local sights, the two shopped like crazy.

"Eshaan even threatened to call his father and complain, if we entered another shop!" laughs Rinku. "The best part of our sojourn was our encounter with pythons at a snake show. We even visited the famed KohSamui beach."

The duo, who first met on the sets of Zee's Swabhimaan, hit it off instantly. "We are looking forward to our next holiday. Shital has her sights set on Dubai," says Rinku, but you never know where we will end up next!"
