Hum tum ek lift mein baad hoon aur chaabi🤔
"Why did not you inform me that you are here?" he asked, without too many formalities. I lingered for a moment, trying to figure out from his expression if he was aware that he had completely disoriented me. "I did not want to bother you," I replied, avoiding his gaze.
Arjun stretched out his arm to and pointed to the edge of the desk, where he had stuck a Post-It note. "Tell me when you arrive."
Oops. But where the hell was my brain? You had to be deficient for not seeing a piece of green fluorescent paper in front of your eyes.
I saw him grab the yellow folder placed on my desk and open it. Green eyes swiveled from one side of the sheet to the other. Then he met my gaze again. "I'm waiting for a call from the director of Mehra Society. I want to be informed immediately, okay? "
I nodded. "Uh yeah, sure."
Arjun turned his back on me walked noisily to the meeting-room door. But before lowering the handle and entering the room, he bowed his head, remembering something. "Ah, since you're here, I need five cups of coffee," he ordered. "Hot."
Then he disappeared inside.
I snorted, resting my forehead on the desk. Without any particular enthusiasm, I grabbed the telephone receiver and dialled the number. A lady arrived within ten minutes of placing the order. With the tray in my hands, I knocked on the meeting-room door. Arjun opened the door after a few seconds, as if he had a built-in radar that was capable of picking up any movement in the next room. He quickly grabbed the tray, lightly touching the back of my hand. Green eyes were fixed to my own.
"Has the director called?"
"Um ... not yet."
He nodded. "Well, you can go." he decreed, putting a hand on my shoulder. It was as if someone had dropped an ice cube in my dress, and I shivered.
I turned to go but instead his gaze captured mine as he stared at me intently. He gave me one of those looks that made you reach heaven...Eh, What am I saying? The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, but he didn't smile even this time. After he disappeared inside the room,
I sank down in a chair, releasing yet another sigh.

The lunch hour passed quickly.
When I reached the elevator again, I checked the time on my wristwatch: it was ten minutes to fifteen. I had to tolerate four hours in the office, then I had a peaceful weekend in front of me' only four hours. Four hours was too much.
The elevator soon arrived and the door opened.
Shit! Wasn't it supposed to be the last day of unfortunate circumstances?
"Do you always take this long for lunch?" Folding his arms, Arjun Punj leaned against the elevator wall and looked at me. "Don't you know that you have to be back at the office twenty minutes before this?"
I rolled my eyes, biting back a retort. I walked in, deliberately turning my back on him.
I hit the button that would take me to the top floor and waited in silence as the elevator started to move. I fixed my eyes on the gleaming yellow buttons.
Indifference was the best weapon, so I was going to make it to the end of my workday.
Suddenly the elevator started to falter. Slowly at first, then with greater vehemence. When I leaned against the wall to keep my balance, it let out a deafening roar. I didn't understand what was happening at that moment.
After a few long minutes there was silence, and with it came darkness: the light had gone out.
Oh no, no, no! This could only mean...
Impulsively, I approached the elevator door and tried to open it.
"Oh God, we cannot be blocked here!" I thought aloud, beginning to beat against the door. 'Can anyone hear us?"
No, no, no! I refused to believe it.
I started pounding harder, almost hysterical, until I a tightening grip around my wrist brought me to a halt.
"Arohi." Arjun murmured, for the third time he called me by my name. "I'm afraid we're stuck here."
I shifted my gaze at his green eyes - though we were surrounded by darkness ' they continued to gleam.
Oh shit! His hand was tight around my wrist. The contact of his skin with mine was: fire!
I purposely remained facing the side of the elevator.
It seemed as if the reaction 'plug' had been removed from my brain! I couldn't think!
"Or am I wrong?" Arjun poked, approaching me.
"I repeat the question... Arohi. What do you have to say?" he seemed extremely serious as he said it this time round. I forgot about our respective roles and questioned him in return "What game are you playing Arjun?" still avoiding to face him.
He smirked and whispered hoarsely into my ear "What makes you think I am playing a game?"
"People like you are always up for revenge. Not to mention the portraying yourselves as physiotherapists".
I stood still, I couldn't react. I couldn't make out of what was happening. As I tried to gather my senses, I saw him approach the elevator buttons and insert a key in the space provided at the bottom for emergencies.
Immediately, the lights turned on and the doors opened. 'It was a pleasure talking to you, Miss Sharma." Saying so, he headed for his office, entered and closed the door behind him.
I was dumbstruck. I could think of two things only. One - Arjun was responsible for the 'breakdown' of the lift and two - I had goose bumps all over my body!
"Okay. Good Night. "
I hung up, sinking my head back in the couch.
Barefoot, I headed for the fridge in search of something to fill my empty stomach. As I passed through the corridor, I noticed the flashing red indicator on the landline phone: voicemail. I pressed the flashing red button and continued on my quest to look for food.
Time 14:00
Hey Arohi, it's mom.
How are things in Mumbai?
It's sad how far you are at the moment. I caught cold a few days back' I'm fine now but the aftereffects are getting to me My aching back is driving me wild. Don't you dare say I'm old, okay? Otherwise, I'll come right down to you!
By the way ... I hope you'll come home soon. If you have any problem with getting some days off from work, let me know, I'll talk to Arjun.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Love you.
Despite having gone through adolescence, my mother continued to treat me like a little child. I knew her better than anyone, probably better than she knew herself. She woke up at dawn and went jogging everyday.
I smiled to myself, reminiscing of the days I lived with her. I pulled out a pack of precooked food from the fridge and heated it in the microwave. While I had dinner, I listened to the other messages on the machine.
Time 14:30
Arohi' mom again.
I forgot to ask, did you receive the gift I sent you?
It's nothing special, but I wanted to know if you liked.
Remember to handle the package with care: it's fragile.
Call me as soon as you see it.
Another gift bag? Why was my mother missing me so much?
A phone. I guessed.
I put the plate down on the table, and enthusiastically headed towards the mailbox outside.
As expected, I was in receipt of unpaid bills, advertisements, and a blank envelope... a blank envelope?
I examined every inch of it before opening. It was not flat. There was a bulge at the center that somehow caused the envelope to take the shape of the object enclosed. I went inside.
When I opened it, I was stunned. A small light pink crystal orchid, the size of a finger, gleamed.
I checked to see if there was a note in the envelope but nope'. nothing.
It was an anonymous letter.
Pink crystal.
No note.
I had a secret admirer? Or maybe I received it in error. Paradoxical, no doubt, but I couldn't make out of this. After all, only a handful of people knew my mailing address. Natz, Baba, Mom, Nikhil, perhaps Purvi because she's a regular customer at the center and a good friend of mine.
Simply, no one else. Mah!
I left it on the table, finished my dinner and went to bed.
At the pub on Sunday
I leaned forward on the table, I concentrated on the yellow ball only. I predicted its path to the pocket and concluded it to be a very simple shot. The ball tipped right into the pocket!
The previous day, I had been lazing around at home all day. Sunday evening with friends was just what I needed before commencing another working week.
I was thoroughly enjoying my day out. But above all, I was happy to be away from Arjun Punj and his annoying mood swings. I was here with Natz and Abhay. I grabbed my non-alcoholic drink and drained the entire glass down my throat only to experience a different taste.
"Natz, don't tell me that..."
I found herself looking in the direction of the bar. There, Karan, a bartender at the pub, stood and smiled. I rolled my eyes in desperation. "Oh please, you put alcohol in my drink?"
"You like him?" asked Natz, indicating to Karan. "Noooooo'"
"Well, then why don't you invite your secret admirer aka anonymous crystal orchid sender to hang out with us?" Abhay teased.
I rolled my eyes again. "Please stop it you two." I said, effortlessly.
"Okay, we're going to get a drink." saying so, they both disappeared.
My watch struck 10pmI had work the next day... a whole week! My head ached at the very thought of it. "Well... I'd better get going." I thought. Just when, I grabbed my coat and purse and headed in the direction of the door, I heard'
"It's so disappointing to know that you're leaving so soon."
End of the update😈😆
3. I knew you want to know who spoke the last dialogue...U have to wait*again 😈*
4. Someone will not like the idea that Arohi has drunk alcohol but you'll understand everything in the next updates.😳
5. Karan had a small role but in the future he'll carry on important position in the story...my brain is still working on this.
Now the PROMO of the next updates..but before let me wear an armor..I need it because maybe someone will want to throw something...
"From now, you're no more my personal secretary. Miss Arohi Sharma, you're fired right now." said Arjun.
I'm running😆
edit: BTW Shibz, congratz for being an IF Dazzler🥳You rock🤗Love you
