Look Who's changing 1/3

We have seen Shah Rukh Khan enamour the silver screen with his multi-hued characters. Filmfare leafs through some of his memorable roles

Deewana (1992)
Shah Rukh Khan won the Filmfare Award in the Best Male Debut category for his role in Deewana. In the film, Shah Rukh played a young romantic hero. He had floppy hair and mostly dressed in full-sleeved shirts paired with trousers or sweaters paired with high-waisted jeans.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993)
He played a lovestruck boy who kept failing his exams. His style accessory was an airplane pilot's hat. His look was like a collegian's: t-shirts with jackets, jeans and sneakers. For a cruise party, he wears a formal black blazer paired with trousers in the hope of winning over his lady love.

Baazigar (1993)
When he was wooing Shilpa Shetty as Ajay, he played a geeky college student wearing large round glasses
and a brown jacket. When he was wooing Kajol as Vicky, he replaced the glasses with coloured contact lenses. He was then a very stylish car racer, wearing snazzy jackets and sunglasses. The most popular poster image from the film is one of Shah Rukh in a black suit wearing a hat that has a close resemblance to a navy hat.

Darr (1993)
In Darr, he played an obsessive stalker who obviously didn't get the attention of K...K...K...Kiran (Juhi Chawla). A floppy-haired college student discovered his fascination for the girl in question on campus. He wore a lot of printed shirts with jeans and a studded belt.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's Raj has made a permanent mark in our minds. His character has been referenced in a lot of romantic films, including the latest Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. The film created the image of the quintessential romantic hero. He wore jeans with long shirts. Over them he wore a black leather jacket and had a guitar slung on his shoulder.

Karan Arjun (1994)
Shah Rukh had two roles and two lives in the film. In his first birth, he is a village lad dressed in the traditional attire of white kurta pajamas. After his rebirth, he is a city boy who wears jeans and suede jackets. He manages a stable and that detail is woven onto the fringes in his jacket.

Koyla (1996)
SRK's character was forcibly made to swallow coal and thus, Koyla became the name of the film. He played a rustic rebel with a cause. He wore his hair long and unruly and wore three earrings. He wore a silver necklace with a cylindrical locket all through the film. His shirts were v-necks and he even wore a rope around his waist.

We have seen Shah Rukh Khan enamour the silver screen with his multi-hued characters. Filmfare leafs through some of his memorable roles

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
Dil To Pagal Hai was a very stylised film for its era. SRK played a young director who made musicals. He wore jeans and shirts through the film. For his performances on stage, he wore leather pants, body-hugging t-shirts and the look was completed with a microphone headset.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
The costumes of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai became extremely popular with the audiences. The film ushered in international brands on celluloid. Polo Sport and Gap had aspirational value for the common man. The most popular accessory in the film was a silver chain that Shah Rukh sported with a lettered pendant with the word 'cool'.

Baadshah(1999)
In the song, Main toh hoon pagal, Shah Rukh sported a Polo Sport track suit. It was a blue and black vest paired with black pants. The track suit became so popular that it was stocked at stalls in Fashion Street, Mumbai, and college boys were seen wearing it.

Josh(1999)
In Josh, Shah Rukh played a street gang leader. His look was very grunge. He wore a bandanna, sleeveless vests or ganjis with ripped denim jeans. A trademark accessory was an earring in the left ear and Ray Ban's Wayfarer sunglasses. Shah Rukh's character was also Aishwarya's twin brother and in order to look like her, he wore blue coloured contact lens.

Mohabbatein(2000)
In Mohabbatein, SRK played a modern, young teacher standing up against an old school of thought teacher. To fit in with the teacher stereotype, he wore glasses. He always had a violin accompanying him. Over his linen pants and crisp full-sleeved shirts was a sweater slung around his shoulders.

Asoka (2001)
SRK represented the Indian emperor, Ashoka the Great. He had a mythical appeal. He was mostly bare-chested, wearing a dhoti to cover his legs. He accessorised with a silver choker necklace. His make-up included kohl-covered eyes and a black bindi on the forehead.

Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
He was a New York yuppie in Kal Ho Naa Ho. He wore t-shirts and sweaters with his jeans. His hair was floppy. He wore a band on his wrist. In certain scenes, he wore rimless glasses to achieve a serious look.

Devdas(2002)
Devdas was a period film. It showed us the journey of a character from a student returned from England to an alcoholic. When he was an English student, he wore a hat and a bow tie. He wore an English suit and smoked a pipe. In his transition to an alcoholic, he dressed like the Bengalis, in kurtas and clutches a bottle of alcohol always.

Main Hoon Na (2004)
Main Hoon Na saw Shah Rukh go back to school. He was an army student on a mission in school. To blend in with the crowd, he wore polo neck sweaters with jeans and scarves coiled around his neck. Of course, he was a tad late keeping up with fashion and all the students mocked him in the film.

Swades (2004)
Swades was the story of a man educated and working in the US returning to his homeland to implement development in a small village. His look was simple. He wore shirts in earthy colours rolled up to his sleeves over light blue, straight fit jeans.

Paheli (2005)
Paheli had the look of a folk tale. And Shah Rukh Khan was a village lad in a double role. He was dressed in traditional bandh gala short kurtas and multi pleated dhotis. Of note was his huge multi-layered and multi-coloured turban. The turban itself was quite mysterious.

Don (2006)
Don was a remake. The difference was that this version had a very stylised look. SRK looked like a vern with jeans. The haircut was that of a person much younger than his actual age. The colours were in the palette of blues and blacks.

Om Shanti Om (2007)
Before the release of Om Shanti Om, SRK's six pack abs were the only thing spoken about. The construction worker motif in the song, Dard-e-disco worked wonders for him. There were also two time periods in the film. In the earlier time period, the look was very retro. He grew his sidelocks, reminiscent of Elvis Presley and wore bell bottom pants with matching blazers. In the later time period, it was a very spoilt 'starry' look. He wore silk shirts with jeans.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
He played a double role again in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. While Surinder Sahni was a domesticated husband, sporting round-framed glasses, office wear shirts and single pleated trousers with sports shoes, Raj was a hip and cool dancer. Raj wore fitted vests and track pants suitable for dancing.

My Name Is Khan (2010)
In My Name is Khan, Shah Rukh played an autistic adult living in the US. His look was that of a shirt under a V-neck sweater worn with jeans. The haircut was that of a person much younger than his actual age. The colours were in the palette of blues and blacks.
