lovely as usual...the interview..was terrific...

not good with questions...but

to answer one of yours..yes please..your story is so well thought and lucid it exceed the CVs fragmented and often disjointed narration...

no offense to them...but comparison is natural...

love Maaneet thou...so yeah CVs do have something going for them...

Nothing Can Keep Us Apart

Part 21 - A lawn and a kitchen garden

Maan wanted Geet to start taking over some management responsibilities, but as she had never done anything like that before, he thought to have her shadow him and explain to her how things worked in their office. It proved to be a bit more frustrating than he would have thought. A perfect example was the first letter he dictated when they went back to the office Monday morning.

When they got settled in their office, Maan explained a bit about the new project he was working on and said he was ready to dictate a letter. When told this, Geet grabbed her notebook and a pencil. Maan just looked at her with a confused expression.

"Geet, what are you doing?"

"Dictation. Go ahead, I'm ready." Geet was poised with her pencil, looking at Maan expectantly.

Maan virtually exploded as he yelled, "Geet, when will you get it through your head? You are no longer my secretary! You are my w... partner. Start acting like one."

Geet was so shocked by this behavior that she involuntarily took a step back. This caused her to bump into a chair and loose her balance. Before she hit the ground, a pair of strong arms circled her and held her fast. She looked into Maan's intense, dark eyes, but couldn't understand the emotions she saw hidden inside them. Neither could she understand why her own breathing and heart rate increased as he held her close, or why her hands unconsciously clenched his shirt more tightly.

Maan could have stayed lost in Geet's eyes forever, but he could tell that his outburst had upset her. That was the last thing he wanted to do. Taking a deep breath, he made sure she was stead on her feet, while he tried to calm down.

"Geet, I didn't mean to yell at you, but honestly, sometimes I find you so frustrating. Why do you think I would want you to be taking dictation, when I had you hire us a new secretary?"

"But, you were telling me that you wanted to dictate a letter Why would you say that to me, if you wanted Muskaan to do it?" Maan just shook his head and rolled his eyes at how different Geet's train of thought was from his.

"Geet, I was telling all that to you because I want you to understand how I deal with clients. Soon you will need to start interacting with clients more, and I want you to observe what I do, so you will be more comfortable working on your own. Do you understand?"

"So, basically you want me to learn by watching. Can I ask you questions if I don't understand something?" Maan raised his eyebrows at the simplistic description Geet used, but nodded affirmatively.

Geet then asked, "Why do you dictate your letters? Couldn't you type them yourself?"

Maan wanted to roar in frustration, but instead he said silently, "Yeh ladki mujhe pagal kar degi." He then explained to Geet that dictating was faster and more efficient than doing it yourself. He also described how there were many times that he would need to look through a lot of information and it was less complicated to dictate, than to do it himself. Then he told Geet to have Muskaan come to take dictation.

"Now?"

"Nai, kal."

"But..." Geet saw the slight smirk on Maan's face, and took offense to his teasing. "Why do you always do that to me? It's not nice."

"I do it because whenever I tell you to do something, you always ask 'Now?' Will there ever be a time when you just do what I say instead of asking so many questions?"

Geet opened her mouth to ask why it mattered, when she saw the look on her husband's face. It said he knew exactly what she intended to do. That goaded Geet and she quickly shut her mouth. Biting her tongue to keep from questioning him, Geet walked over to the phone and called their new secretary.

Unknown to Maan and Geet, Sasha had been watching them all this time. She couldn't tell what they were discussing, but it didn't matter. When she saw Geet in Maan's arms, she turned a horrid shade of red. It made her more determined than ever to get rid of Geet. She knew she probably wouldn't be able to do anything directly to Geet now that she was working with Maan all the time. However, that didn't mean that there weren't other ways to undermine that 🤬 (I don't know what she called Geet because I do not listen to those kinds of words, let alone say them.)

While Sasha was contemplating ways to cause problems for Geet, Maan had begun his letter to Mr. Chopra about his views on the project. Geet had been writing notes in her book, and Maan was trying not to get distracted by her. It was difficult, because she looked adorable, sitting their, looking like an innocent freshman at her first day of college.

"This project will be a new venture for Khurana Constructions, with homes specifically designed for the working class, but including all amenities seen in a luxurious home. Each house will have 2 rooms, balconies in the bedrooms, parking space ...."

Geet, listening to the flow of Maan's speech, imagined a beautiful scene where a house just as he described was before her, inhabited by a dark-eyed man, a small child, and a young woman who looked exactly like Geet. Smiling at this lovely thought, her imagination continued, at without really knowing, she filled the silence left by Maan with ".... a lawn for the children to play and have fun with friends, and a small kitchen garden."

When Geet snapped out of her daydream, she saw both Maan and Muskaan looking at her strangely. She realized that maybe she had overstepped, and gave a small "Sorry" to Maan. However, Maan liked her ideas and requested Muskaan to add them to the letter. He could tell from her face that Geet had been thinking about their child when she had made those statements. It caused him to picture a similar scene, in a much different house, but then he shook himself and got back to work.
