Manish Goswami sues Nauheed...
...For walking out of Aisa Des Hai Mera
Sapana Patil
Actress Nauheed Cyrusi has decided against acting in a serial that could have marked her debut on television. Best remembered for the Piya Basanti music video, she was signed by producer Manish Goswami (Sarrkkar, Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai, Kittie Party, Mr Mintu, Abhimaan and Milan) to act exclusively in the to-be-launched serial Aisa Des Hai Mera. However, a few days before the shoot began, Cyrusi backed out. This enraged Goswami and he filed a lawsuit against her, claming damages.
Says Goswami, "Nauheed and I had a contract saying she will act exclusively for my serial and not take up any other work on TV. We were to begin shooting for the serial on February 27. On February 10, she said that she doesn't want to act in the serial and I had to have her replaced. Actors can't take production houses for granted. I have no choice but to take legal action against her, for claiming damages. Nauheed did call me several times, she even met me and apologised. But finally, I am suffering losses. Actors need to be disciplined. We work round the clock every day too. They can't commit breach of contract. They have to be taught a lesson."
Goswami's lawyer, media advocate Rohini Vakil of Medialexicon, says, "We have served a legal notice to Cyrusi for breach of contract. The matter is sub-judice (awaiting judicial determination). These days, one comes across a lot of such cases of actors walking out on the producers at the eleventh hour, which is unprofessional."
When contacted, Cyrusi however denied that a legal case had been filed against her by Goswami. "That's untrue. He was considering taking the legal course, but I met him and convinced him to drop the idea." When asked why she opted out of the serial, she says, "I signed a contract with Goswami to do this serial in August 2005. For several months it didn't take off, for whatever reasons. I was put off with this delay and changed my mind. In December 2005, I asked him how far the serial had developed. He told me that he would let me know in January 2006. When I asked him in January, he said the shooting would begin in February. I couldn't take it any more and decided to quit. He was quite taken aback when he heard this. But I had no choice. I didn't want to do a TV serial.(lmaoooooooooooo....so none of sony's new soaps have been finalised.....and mind you, this soap is a weekly..no a daily....so this is not replacing jjkn) I agreed only because it was supposed to be a weekly. But later it was changed to a daily. Goswami got angry and said, 'If you don't work with me, you will not work with others either'."
ps.......well, just woke up...so sorry but my gray cells aint working....is a weekly show meants for the weekends....if i am right, monday-thursday shows are called dailies and weekly shows are the ones which are telecast in the weekends...correct me if i'm wrong
