| Sachin and Supriya with daughter Shriya | Nach Baliye winning couple Supriya and Sachin Pilgaonkar will soon be seen together in Sachin's Marathi film, Aamhi Saatpute (we are seven sons — it also doubles up as a surname), inspired from the Hollywood classic, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
The film was also the inspiration behind the Amitabh Bachchan-Hema Malini-starrer Satte Pe Satta, which had featured Sachin in the role of the youngest brother.
"In the Marathi version, Sachin will play the eldest brother, with me paired opposite him," reveals Supriya. "After Nach Baliye, I really miss dancing, and am eagerly waiting for Aamhi Saatpute to go on the floors."
DD serial
The couple is also cast together in their TV serial, Tu Totaa Main Mainaa, on DD-I, "which has us playing down-to-earth characters," she reveals at a party hosted by actor-producer Jamnadas "J D" Majethia to mark the success of his serials Instant Khichdi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Baa Bahoo aur Baby.
Adds Supriya, "Although I have not acted in any of J D's serials, I've known him since my Ruparel college days, when his family ran a bookstore in the college. J D even played my husband in the ABCL film, Naam Kya Hai, which was directed by Sachin. So I am here tonight as his well wisher."
Emotional comedy
Going back to their new show, why did they choose DD? "Doordarshan approached us to produce a show for them, and we felt it was an honour.
Secondly, our serial, Tu Totaa Main Mainaa, has an aura of simplicity that we felt might not match the packaging gloss essential for satellite software. We are sure even metro audiences will get hooked to the sweet and emotion-laden comedy, spread over four episodes each week." |
