Amitabh Bachchan
Luc Jacquet's March of the Penguins has created a stir the world over. Set for an April release, the Oscar-nominated documentary, will most likely take home the awards this year.

The Indian release for the film, dubbed in Hindi, will have the voice of Amitabh Bachchan as narrator. This will be the first time an Indian actor has narrated an Oscar-nominated documentary.

I'm doing it: AB

Says Bachchan, "I've agreed to do the commentary for this beautiful docu-film. I'm now waiting for the script. I hope to get through this exercise before I start shooting at the end of the month.

March of the Penguins is a film I'd be very happy to be a part of. I'm sure the documentary will have a deep impact on Indian audiences. It's film that has created a stir the world over. We need more films to make us aware of the desecration of the environment."

While the international version has Morgan Freeman doing the voiceover, the desi version will have Bachchan as the sutradhar. Confirming this, the Indian distributor for the project, Sunil Doshi, said, "We are really excited about the project, especially since Mr Bachchan is going to be associated with the film."

Script stays

Will the narration be an exact translation of the original script? "We cannot have any changes, since there is a copyright on the original script," said Doshi. Bachchan is said to be very impressed with the way Freeman used his voice.

To be dubbed in multiple languages, the documentary will see a countrywide release. "There will be an English and a Hindi version. We are also looking at Tamil and Telugu."

What's March of the Penguins about?

The documentary chronicles the annual march of the penguins each winter in the icy deserts of Antarctica.

One of the most inhospitable terrains on earth, the film shows the Emperor Penguins battling terrifying cold to get to their breeding ground.

Also known as La Marche de L'Empereur, the film has already won numerous awards and is slated to take home the Best Documentary trophy at the Oscars on Monday.
