The stupendous success of 'Dhoom machale' has put composer, Pritam Chakraborty in a fix. He has to live up to expectations and deliver similar hits in all his future work too, something which he plans to achieve with Meghna Gulzar's Honeymoon.
"How am I going to create another song that will be as successful as 'Dhoom Machale'? You can't replicate a hit. When we were working on that song we hardly thought it would become such a craze. Now for Dhoom 2 I've already done three songs. Any of them could be the chartbuster. Who knows?" Pritam's career is at cross-roads at present. "Though I've done a lot of soft melodies my career has become synonymous with Dhoom. I needed to go beyond this, and with Meghna Gulzar's Honeymoon I have got a chance to do so. When Pritish Nandy Communications with whom I've done Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena was unsure of whether I could handle a subject that didn't seem like my forte, I told them to try me out. And here I am, working with Gulzar saab so early in my career. It's a dream come true! I grew up listening to his songs with R.D. Burman. In college I was a member of the R.D. Burman fan club and that's where I became a fan of Gulzar saab. I dreamt of working with him one day. I didn't know it would happen so early in my career."
Working with Meghna has been a fun-filled experience for Pritam. "She has written a really amusing script and the song situations are equally different," he says. Pritam burst into tears when he heard one of Gulzar love lyrics. "I don't know what happened to me. I was flooded with memories when I heard Gulzar saab's words. I just couldn't stop myself."
Gulzar is equally forthcoming in his praise for Pritam. "It's virtually like a honeymoon for me," says Gulzar. "When Meghna told me that I'll be writing lyrics for Pritam I didn't know who he was. I hadn't heard his 'Dhoom machale'. But I trust my daughter's judgement implicitly. So I happily met this young man and he turned out to be very interesting. You can't see eye to eye with Pritam for the simple reason that his hair falls over his face, like a sehra. His eyes are just not visible from underneath all that hair. But his talent is something I salute. Bosky had asked me to write songs that are tongue-in-cheek. That's exactly what I'm doing like 'Kaisi kaisi ram milaye jodi'. That could be the song describing my collaboration with Pritam."
