Excerpts from the interview: How was it spending Valentine's Day away from Bipasha in London? I should say it was a mixer of good and bad feeling. It was good because I met lots of people in London and got good response. But it's bad, as I could not stay with Bipasha. I spent all alone this Valentine's Day in London. Could you tell us something about your film 'Taxi No.9211'? It is all about two people named Raghav Shastri and Jai Mittal played by Nana Patekar and me respectively. I play the role of a spoilt son of a millionaire, who loves wine, women and parties hard. On the other hand, Nana plays the role of a taxi driver. It's a 24-hour story and begins at mid night. Jai's life starts changing after meeting Raghav. It was shot in 45 days and we had fun. You will enjoy watching it, as it has lots of fun and emotion. How is your co-star Nana Patekar in the film after his wonderful performance in 'Bluffmaster'? He is fantastic in the film. He told me that he has not watched 'Bluffmaster' and 'Apaharan', yet he is looking forward to watch 'Taxi 9211'. He even wonders what two diverse characters are doing after seeing our postesr. You know, he is curious to watch this film. And that is revealing enough.
Director Milan Luthria has succeeded in bringing out the real John through this character. He believes in choosing right cast, as it makes things much easier. He has rightly chosen me for the role of Jai, as he is very restless by nature with good heart. On the other hand, Raghav Shastri is a frustrated man. What is your favorite song of the album? It has to be "Ek Nazar". It is very melodious. I also love "Boombai Nagariya" What is the main highlight of the film? It has a great story and screenplay and director Milan Luthria deserves all the praises. I saw the rough cut of the film without any background music yet it's beautiful. It made me laugh and at the end I end up crying. I am sure the film will work with the audience. You have got many films under your belt of late like 'Viruddh', 'Garam Masala', 'Zinda' and now 'Taxi 9211'. Was it a planned move? I just follow my heart and the rest fall into place. I imagine myself as an audience and look into the films I would love to watch. I do fail sometime while following my guts but I never stop trying to satisfy the audience. Deepa Mehta is all over you after your performance in 'Water'. Did you do the film to make a change?
What happened to your film 'Komagata Maru' with Deepa Mehta, which also has Amitabh Bachchan? Amitabh is interested in doing the film but his ill health has cast lots of doubts now. It may take off by the end of the year or early next year. When are you planning to tie the final knot? Bipasha and I have decided to speak about it only when the right time comes. We are not ready at this point of time, and so, no question of marriage. It may take four to five years or seven years. We are waiting for the right moment. |
