Sony's doctor drama Ayushmaan is on its last legs. The story of a teenage wonder doctor, loosely based on the American hit, Doogie Howser MD, Ayushmaan will see an end next month.
Tarun Katial of Sony confirms this news says, "Yes the show will go off air next month." When asked why the channel pulled the rug, he says, "Ayushmaan did have a good story but some shows make it while others don't."
The show had its share of drama, with the lead actor Vinod Singh being replaced by Sudeep Sahir. Singh was sacked from the show for creating a nuisance on the sets.
But recently expressed his desire to get back on the drama. However, that seems impossible now, with the channel's latest decision.
Cinevistaa's Siddharth Malhotra said, "There are a lot of factors which go into a show's making.
It is a team effort and in our case every team member has given his or her 100 per cent to make sure Ayushmaan has a smooth running. Of course you feel sad that the show is over, but we would rather look into the future than fret over the past."
The show began on a youthful note with the focus being on the doctor and his hospital. However, the track digressed into a romantic story with the hospital taking a back seat. "The channel and the producers decide where the story has to go. I would not like to comment on the shift in track."
Ayushmaan's leading man Sudeep Sahir was unavailable for comment.
The show now airs at a changed timing of 3 pm from Monday to Thursday.
