As Cocktail 2 arrived in cinemas on June 19, one topic surrounding the film generated almost as much discussion as its story, its A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Leading man Shahid Kapoor has now reacted to the certification, admitting that even he was surprised by the board’s decision.
Shahid Kapoor Says The Film Is Meant For Everyone
In a recent interaction with fans, Shahid addressed the film’s adult rating and revealed that he does not fully understand why the romantic drama received the certificate. According to the actor, Cocktail 2 does not contain anything that audiences would find offensive or uncomfortable.
Speaking candidly, Shahid said that the film is simply the story of three people and their relationships. He added that it is a movie families and friends can watch together and hoped viewers would leave theatres with a smile and a renewed appreciation for life's special moments.
The actor’s comments quickly caught attention online, especially because the film has become his fifth A-rated release after Kaminey, Udta Punjab, Kabir Singh and O Romeo.
What Changes Did The CBFC Ask For?
Interestingly, reports suggest that the CBFC did not alter any of the film’s romantic or intimate sequences. Instead, the board reportedly instructed the makers to make a few dialogue and subtitle modifications before granting certification.
Among the changes, a profanity appearing in the subtitles was removed. Another revision involved replacing the word “Agni” with “Diya” wherever it was used in the film. A reference described as “Jew on the run” was also modified. However, the certification order reportedly did not specify the context in which the phrase appeared, leaving room for speculation.
Following these edits, Cocktail 2 received its censor clearance on June 16. The certified runtime of the film stands at 2 hours, 29 minutes and 19 seconds.
A New Love Triangle From Homi Adajania
Directed by Homi Adajania, who also helmed the 2012 hit Cocktail, the sequel stars Shahid Kapoor alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. The story follows Diya and Kunal, whose decade-long relationship is disrupted when an old friend, Ally, re-enters their lives. What starts as an unexpected arrangement between the two women gradually turns into a messy, emotional and often humorous journey.
Written by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan, the film is backed by Maddock Films and Luv Films. While audiences are eager to see whether the sequel can recreate the charm of the original, the discussion around its A certificate has certainly added another layer of curiosity.
