Okay, so I know that this topic has probably been discussed alot of times, but I think 'marriage' is a topic that can be looked at from so many angles that it's somehow never enough 😛
Anyway, coming to the topic. I have alot of questions to ask, to people who believe in the institution and to people who don't - Why do you believe in marriage (or why not)? Do you think that given the structure of the Indian society, marriage is more of a compulsion than a choice? Why is it so important to get married and that too at a certain age?
I, personally, do not believe in the institution at all. Perhaps it is because of my personal experiences, but I simply cannot see the solid ground (apparently) upon which this insitution is built. Plus it hasn't retained it's original essence over the years, it has become more of a social deal between two parties, which may or may not include financial aspects. It is like a certificate which makes you socially acceptable (strictly speaking of the Indian society) Ofcourse, people may have different POV's but this was strictly my opinion.
I was also watching this old episode of NDTV's 'We the people' this morning, which had SRK and Karan Johar as two of it's panel members. It was around the time KANK had released, and was about how it invoked an extreme reaction amongst the audience. Here's the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqofEh_B8QI
It had some interesting points. One of the points that I really found interesting was the whole concept of 'Nibhao' - How long can it go on without completely ruining a couple's and/or their children's life? I have to disagree with Shahrukh and agree with Karan here. There is absolutely nothing worse for a small kid than growing up in a home where his/her parents constantly fight and emotionally/mentally/physically abuse each other. Should the exit route be a little more simpler than it is now?
I think I've written enough 😆 I'd really like to read more opinions and different people's take on this. Also, do you think Live-in is perhaps a better option? Why is 'commitment' so closely related to 'marriage'? If two people truly love each other, then they're committed regardless of their marital status. What do you think?
