After getting out of jail, Brij asks the havaldar for matches, telling him that he wants to start a fire ๐๐๐ He then asks the havaldar for a cigarette, but is out of luck there.
Brij then visits a friend of his (didn't seem like Ravi, since Ravi lived in a shack, whereas this dude seems to be from a well to do house). The friend asks him how he came out and why he's visiting him, and Brij tells him that his number came, and that the reason he visited him was that he was his closest friend there. He then asks him for a drink, but the friend says that he doesn't have alcohol on Tuesdays. Brij reminds him of the number of occasions his friend came to his place and had alcohol, and today, he's making up a story about Tuesdays? His friend tells him to forget about it, and instead tell him what he's up to now.
Brij tells him that he's up to some work. But this time, he won't indulge in any activity that can land him back in jail - the mosquitos there are pretty intense. ๐๐๐ His friend tells him that he's given up his crooked ways, and that it's good that Brij has stopped stalking Sushma. Brij asks - Sushma who? (Yeah, who could remember a teeny bopper wife who he knocked up, and who's the reason he was in jail the last few months in the first place?๐๐๐) Brij points out that Sushma has nothing, and that the one person who could have been the light of his life, Jyoti, chose not to. Brij tells him that he heard that Jyoti had been kicked out of the Vashisth family, and has now been divorced by that blind loser. In any case, Jyoti has nothing for him, so he's decided not to go after her. He tells him that he has to have a new gameplan, where this time, he'll cast his net to where the returns are available. ๐๐
Sudha is sitting in a room w/ Gayatri (finally, badi ma has returned, and it's good to see her back). They are going over some invitations, when Bhairavi arrives and hands Sudha 2 jewel boxes, telling her that they were the jewels she had given her, and asked her to wear those tomorrow @ the wedding. Sudha tells her that she hadn't given them to her for safe-keeping, but had actually returned them: since she doesn't have any jewelery, she won't be wearing any. Bhairavi is furious, and tells Gayatri that Sudha is planning to attend the wedding unadorned, and lower the prestige of the house. She again launches into a tirade and demands that she forget Jyoti. Gayatri calms her down and asks her to leave it to her, and Bhairavi leaves.
Gayatri then tells Sudha that she doesn't know what was right and what was wrong (that's summing up the problem w/ you 2 MN&G in a nutshell), but Pankaj & Jyoti had both taken their decision, and aside from that, there is another point to consider - she is the bahu of this house, and so if she doesn't deck up, all the guests @ the wedding will question whether she has divided loyalties (it's nice to know that such things can be faked simply by wearing expensive jewelery whose original owner can be shameless enough to demand back during bad times), thereby lowering the image of the Vashisth parivar. Therefore, it's her duty to honor the customs and traditions of the family. ๐ค๐
At the Sharma home, Dadi is sitting down w/ the other bahu - Poonam - and showing her how exactly to cut the vegetables. Poonam asks Dadi what she will be giving as a gift to Pankaj. Dadi says that since it's the mango season, they'd send a bunch of mangos. Poonam is surprised to hear that, and asks whether that would be enough - wouldn't it give them a pretext to taunt Sudha didi even more? Dadi is thoughtful @ that, as Padma arrives and says that regardless of what happened to Jyoti, they have to be mindful of the fact that they have another daughter there (since when did Padma care about Sudha, and aside from that, don't they trust Uday to protect her?) Padma says that they'll have to send something more than that. Dadi suggests sending a basket of other things, like nuts, raisins, etc. Dadi then leaves, and Poonam gets up to talk to Padma.
Poonam asks Padma whether Dadi's suggestions would be adequate, given how rich the Vashisths were. Padma agrees, but points out what the situation @ home is. Poonam suggests that since it's important that Sudha-didi not be embarrassed, she asks if she could ask her dad for some money, and tells her that her father would feel happy that they consider them close enough to ask them for such assistance. She tells Padma that since she is a part of this family, its honor and dishonor is hers as well. Padma smiles @ her, and tells her that she's happy that Poonam is thinking about the family. Padma however worries how Deepu might react, but Poonam assures her that she'll convince Deepu of this decision. Padma is somewhat embarrassed, but reluctantly gives Poonam the go-ahead.
At the class, Jyoti is rehearsing w/ her dance group, and she goes to one of the students and corrects a move of hers. Another student is remarking on how late it is, and Jyoti turns towards her and demands to know what's going on, and the student tells her that she is tired. Jyoti tells them that this is the test, and that they are not to be tired, and that it's all in the mind. She then tells them that she's re-playing the music right from the start, and this time, she wants no mistakes.
Jyoti herself is exhausted, and while the girls are dancing, she sits down. For some reason, the words of Pankaj's advocate accusing her of being characterless rings in her mind (why is that ringing in her mindโ), when Kabir taps her on her shoulder. He sits next to her, and tells her that it's pretty late, and to release them. Jyoti looks @ her watch and is shocked to see the time, and apologizes to the girls. They're done for the day, and will pick up tomorrow. The girls thank Jyoti and Kabir.
Kabir tells her that she too seems tired, and suggests that they have a coffee together. Jyoti declines, and Kabir tells her that aside from being a partner in the academy, he can be a good friend as well. That way, she can release a lot of things that she has on her mind, and lighten her mental burden. Jyoti tells him that it is pretty late, and that she does have to return home.
Jyoti is @ a shop that sells supplies for babies, and notices a pink teddy bear. ๐ณ She smiles @ it, and takes it & smiles @ it again, probably imagining it in her kid's hands. While she is admiring it, Kabir is noticing her from outside the shop, and smiles on seeing her laughing in joy @ the toy. Jyoti goes up to the shopkeeper and asks him the price, and on being told that it was Rs650, decides that it's too expensive and leaves w/o buying it ๐ฅบ๐ญ Kabir looks @ her sadly as she leaves (Please, Kabir, buy it for her and gift it)
At the Vashisth household, Bhairavi, Sudha and Gayatri are welcoming guests (Sudha is still not wearing any jewelery, although I'm not sure if that's meant for tomorrow). Kesav-ji & Minal arrive (how come she's w/ Kesav-ji - isn't she supposed to be returned only after Neelam & Pankaj's wedding? Also where is Sumant - he was there for Jyoti's wedding and MN&G's anniversary, but not here for Neelam's, whom his dad considers precious enough to destroy Jyoti's marriage ๐ฒ๐ค). Minal greets Bhairavi & Gayatri, but ignores Sudha, and Kesav-ji arrives. He greets Bhairavi, but as Sudha is about to bow to him, he restrains her, and tells her that he has no blessings for her, and that due to her, their bahu (meaning presumably Neelam) had to suffer a lot. It's good that Pankaj agreed to marry her, or else, her marriage would have been broken (I can't wait to see this ๐คฌ face when he finds out that Neelam had and has another bf - something that neither Sudha nor Jyoti ever did. This was unduly mean - her sister's marriage has been sacrificed so that his precious Neelam can marry into that family, much against her will). Saying this, both Kesav-ji and Bhairavi leave her alone.
Jyoti returns home. KK asks her how her day was, and Sushma tells her that she'll get tea. Jyoti sees all the wrapped gifts in glazed paper, and asks who they're for, and everybody goes quiet. Sushma tells her scornfully that they are wedding gifts for Mr Pankaj Vashisht from the Sharma family in order to honor their relationship w/ them. Everybody in the room is acutely uncomfortable, while Sushma tells Jyoti that the gifts are worth Rs 6000. She then demands that Padma explain where so much money came from. Padma mumbles about there being another daughter in that house, for which they have to give something. Jyoti tells Sushma that she must have asked her mom the same question in the past, and if she didn't want to answer, why is she repeatedly bringing this up? She says that whatever they decided to do must have been done after due consideration. She asks Sushma not to raise this again.
Back @ the wedding (the wedding is supposed to be on Thursday, but everybody is there today - couldn't make out what it was) a bunch of girls including Minal (but not including Sudha) are dancing. Bhairavi goes to Pankaj & Neelam, who are seated, and compliments Neelam, who is clearly not happy, and fakes a smile. She tells Pankaj that everything happened exactly the way she wanted it, and asks them to chat, while she entertains the guests. She goes to greet some of them, but Pankaj gets up, so Bhairavi goes to this baby and asks him where is he headed, and did he want anything? Pankaj tells her that he's feeling very jittery, and can't sit here anymore - wants to be left alone for a while. Bhairavi refuses, and tells him that Neelam will feel neglected, and besides it won't look good, what w/ all the guests there.
The long awaited moment arrives. Bhairavi looks up outwards, and sees someone. It's Brij!!! She is shocked, and tells Pankaj not to go anywhere, and that she'd return. She then goes out, greeting guests along the way, and suddenly, Brij greets her - pranam Bhairavi aunty ๐๐๐ Bhairavi looks @ him shocked & speechless, while Brij fills in what she would have said in exactly her words. He asks her how she is, and tells her that he expects that she recognized him, and so that she doesn't ask him worthless questions like how do you dare show up here, etc etc. He tells her that he's come there @ the right place & time. As it is, all this pomp and celebration is due to Brij, right, choti ma (it was a hoot seeing Brij address Bhairavi as choti ma ๐๐๐)? Brij laughs @ Bhairavi as he gleefully takes credit for this event. ๐๐๐ Bhairavi finally gets the courage to ask him why did he come there, and Brij tells her that this is a far better question. Until then, Brij was chuckling and almost mocking her, but now he turns serious, and tells her that he is hungry, and there to eat. Just then, Pankaj arrives there, and both Brij & Bhairavi go silent and step back to let him pass, both being careful that he not overhear anything. Brij makes a hand gesture to Pankaj to go ahead and mockingly grins @ him, and dear choti ma, who normally would never take any insult to Pankaj lying down, has to adapt a stiff upper lip, as she glares @ Brij but can't say anything. Brij grins again, and Bhairavi whispers @ him furiously on what is his objective? He tells her that it's she that he wanted to speak to, and it's a matter of high importance, and if Pankaj overheard it, all the happiness of that wedding would go up in flames in an instant. Bhairavi glares @ him, as the episode ends
Bhairavi asks Brij why would the wedding be stopped? Brij looks around and tells her that this isn't the right place to discuss this. He suggests that they have a meeting quietly in one place, and walks off. Bhairavi stares @ him, and then looks down, almost panic-stricken ๐
Bhairavi tells Jyoti that she's crossed all limits of shame by turning up @ her ex-husband's wedding, and asks what sort of scene is she planning to create? In the meantime, Neelam, in her bridal attire, gets into an auto and disappears, and her mom is worried about her whereabouts. The voice over asks whether this is just a coincidence, or a new turn of events, overlaid on Pankaj & Jyoti's profiles. (I hope it isn't Pankaj & Jyoti - I hope this is their last meeting together - after this, Jyoti should move on, and let Bhairavi juggle things so that Brij is not seen by anyone in the family, not just Pankaj).
Previously, my favorite episode was the Suday wedding - while I was happy for Uday & Sudha, Bhairavi's unease w/ Neelam's family was icing on the cake. Today, a different type of unease hit Bhairavi, and it was Brij. It was so good that the update, though long winded, needed to capture every moment of it.
Remember every time you saw Brij and winced, wondering what's it he'll do next to either Jyoti or Sushma? Well, today, for the first time, when I saw Brij mocking and humiliating someone, I just chuckled. For the first time, she's in a situation where she dares not share w/ anyone what she's done, or is doing. Plus I loved the way he mocked Pankaj behind his back right in front of Bhairavi, and she dared not do anything about it. ๐๐๐
Like Kruthika speculated yesterday, I think that what happened on New Years day, after Jyoti had fessed up to Pankaj and returned home panic striken was that Bhairavi had probably contacted Brij and asked him to come there then and there and lie about Jyoti. Remember, it was only in Brij's interest to threaten Jyoti, never to actually carry it out, b'cos once he did, his ability to blackmail them in future was over. But the reason he turned up that night was that Bhairavi must have contacted him and paid him off to do it, and so he made good use of this opportunity, which Bhairavi then used as a pretext to go unhinged. But while Bhairavi may not have expected it, Brij is now back and available to blackmail Bhairavi, threatening to expose what she did to Pankaj, knowing that if he does, she is totally damaged. And just like Brij never planned to actually expose Jyoti but just blackmail her, he's doing the same thing w/ Bhairavi.
Other things - 3 cheers to Sudha for defying Bhairavi once again, and telling her pointedly that she's not wearing any of Bhairavi's jewelery. While I sympathize w/ Gayatri, I'd prefer that Sudha doesn't wear any jewelery @ the wedding.
The gift - I agree w/ Poonam again. In the olden days, when Pankaj was hinged, a basket of fruits would have been more appreciated by the family - MN&G, Uday, Pratik and Pankaj. In the current atmosphere, where you have Bhairavi on steroids, it wouldn't be. I was a little surprised by Jyoti's reaction - given how she almost sat out Deepu's wedding so that Sudha could attend, it was surprising that Sudha's case was stated by Dadi and Padma (the latter who doesn't give a damn about her) But the whole logic here is twisted - it's almost like stating that the Vashisths would make it a point to insult their own bahu depending on what the maayka did. Yeah, Bhairavi would, but no one else, not even Pankaj would. I do hope that they send someone to drop it w/ one of the servants, and ask that it be given to Pankaj. Or drop it in their mail box. Or, if they find out that Jyoti is dancing @ Pankaj's wedding, give it to her to deliver.
The Kabir Jyoti moment today - I found it mildly heartbreaking when Jyoti, for the first time, seemed happy to see something as innocuous as a teddy bear, but couldn't buy it b'cos it was too expensive. Of course, it gives Kabir an opening to buy it for her, and that might be the occasion when she tells him that she's expecting Pankaj's baby.
All in all, an awesome episode, and look forward to an awesome week. Bhairavi might have one last hurrah by insulting Jyoti one last time, but after that, she can dedicate all her time to Brij's next move.
Cheers, Brij!!! ๐ฅณ
Episode rating: ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
I think this week will see 5 stars when entire episodes start getting dedicated to the Brij vs Bhairavi battle, and for once, it'll be fun watching a panic striken Bhairavi.
