Hi All,

Requesting you to give an honest opinion about the above two performances. Which song did you like and why you liked it over the other performances.

My personal opinion is Anwesha's Kahe Chhed Mohe was better than Shankar's 'Mitwa'. Reasons are:

1. Anwesha's taankaari was more in the line of the raag of the song. The taankaari never sounded to be forcedly implemented. I really liked the continuity of the alaap and the end was superb. Whereas Mitwa was not a pure classical based song. Adding extra alaap at the end of the song was really not necessary. For me, it destroyed the essence of the song. Sometimes the beauty of the song lies in its purity of emotion and simplicity, that was totally lost in the song. It was similar to the way Rehman sang 'Mora Saiyaan Mose Bole Na'...sometimes extra decoration just does not work (at least for me)

2. Shankar ji sang his composition so it was easier for him to play with the extra improvisation.

3. Both Anwesha and Shankar ji went breathless a number of times. But Shankar ji probably went more number of times since he was singing in very fast rhythm.

4. Anwesha's taan s were more clear than Shankar ji's.

Please note that I am not disregarding Shankar ji but expressing by opinion about the song. His 'Sapno Se Bhare Naina' was out of the world performance. But only for this round, Anwesha's song was more pleasing to me.

Please remain constructive and civil while expressing your opinion

Anwesha's performance gave me goosebumps. So I chose her's. Although it may not be a fair choice as I haven't seen the episode yet since it will be aired this weekend, and haven't heard Shankar's mitwa. I just heard her kahe ched mohe thanks to the video of that song posted on this forum. I'm posting that video here also for the benefit of those who haven't heard both the songs.

But I do agree with you about Rehman's rendition of "Mora saiyan mose bole naa". That's one of my favorite songs and the improvisation done on it just didn't suit the song. In some cases in this competition though, I've found that the improvisation has made the song even more beautiful. Especially in some of Anwesha's songs and some of Shankarji's other songs like "Sapno se bhare naina". I would be grateful if someone posts Shankarji's mitwa also. It will benefit those who haven't watched this episode.

Thanks so much. The beginning of the song didn't even sound like the great Shankarji. It seemed very strained. The last part with all the sargams seemed extremely overdone and spoiled the core feeling of the song. The gasps of breath in between were very loud and clear.

After listening to both versions, I completely agree with your post. But Sapno se bhare naina is still one of my most favorite performances in this show😃.

Moreover Shankar has sung 'Mitawa' probably 100 times in various shows in different shows. But Anwesha was probably singing 'Kahe Chhed Mohe' for the first time.

+ Shankar did not sing the Antara, Anwesha sang the antara also. Shankar's voice was hoarse at the end of the song. If the judges were honestly marking Shankar, they could not have given 10 marks specially when they gave Anwesha 9 marks for a superlative performance

Anwesha really deserved 10 from the judges....they probably cut the marks as the tabla bol between Anwesha and Debo could be more harmonius.

I personally enjoyed Anwesha's song more than Shankar's mitwa. When the audience screamed "mitwa" it was so suriley... 😃
Shankar's "Sapno se bare naina" was outstanding.

Agreed with redapple,Still i believe it is not right to compare anwesha with someone legend like shankarji..

In this particular face-off, I did like Anwesha's performance more than Shankar ji's. However the tabla bol between Anwesha and Debojit was a bit of a mess, I thought.

In any case, kudos to Anwesha for not only bringing the man himself to the floor, but also forcing him to improvise! :)

@baghabayen, I agree comparisons in general should be avoided between legendary singers and up-and-coming ones. However, as Shankarji himself says, in the spirit of this competition he is a contestant. So, then I guess it is fair to compare their respective performances! :)

There isnt and shouldnt be a comparison of Shankar with ne1 on ths show. But I agree Shankar's voice sounded a bit rough but I am sure he sad some problem with his throat...I have been following his singing closely and seem to me his voice on the mitwa and also in the medley was a bit different. May be he wasnt feeling well....folowing is the video of shankar singing mitwa in his original voice. You can compare youself.
