I think it was just Datta being gracious...he's not yet there when it comes to affected by her touch. But I do think the pain scene has been a turning point in their relationship...earlier she was a brave and principled girl who helped him. she and her family were in need and so he helped them. life cud have gone on like that for them. but in the pain scene she moved a few notches above in his scheme of things. despite her position as a servant in the patil mansion and despite his forbidding aura of datta bhao she saw him for what he was below is hard exterior. something which not many have guts to see(other people in his kasba for whom he's an extra constituitional authority) or are not interested in seeing(like his sisters)...thats when he found someone apart from baji who really understands him. maybe aai does understand him too but she's not the same age group as baji and naku.

You know, I agree with you - partially. Lol! I mean I agree with everything you said about the pain scene being a turning point for their relationship and how that's when he realized Nakku was someone else apart from Baaji who saw through his rough exterior. Infact I think I even agree with you when you say that Dutta's not "there" yet as far as being affected by her touch goes - but I think he's not "there" in terms of consciously being affected by her touch. He doesn't KNOW that he's affected by her touch yet - he isn't aware of how SHE affects him. But I can't say that she doesn't affect him. I think him pulling back at the dinner table was still because she affected him - he just doesn't know it. To him his pulling back was just a reflex - at least that's how he's probably just classified it - but in reality it did affect him. I mean, is he really this "timid" as you put it earlier around all his help? We haven't been shown this yet, but I'm going to take a liberty here and say that he's not. So I agree with you when he says he isn't yet "there" to being affected by her touch, but in my opinion he isn't "there" to being affected by her touch at a CONSCIOUS level.
P.S. If I'd ever thought this much about a class topic, I'd have graduated with a Magna Cum Laude! 🤣

😆 thats true...btw the difference in naku touching u can actually see it. the first time she touched him a little out of turn was in the hospital when he got up from his delirious sleep. she held his shoulders to calm him...but that time he was affected by her touch...kept staring till she removed her hand from his shoulders.
but at the dining table when she touched him he just let it be and as if its ok for her to jump on him like that...so what changed?

I don't think he ever acted like it was "okay" for her to touch him - the only difference between the hospital and the dinner table was how he conveyed the "don't touch me" message across. In the hospital he was alone, so he could stare at her - asking her not to touch him. But at the dinner table, with family - I think he didn't want to attract any more attention about it. The easiest thing then was to move his arm, whereas in the hospital the easiest thing was to "let her know" that she needed to move her arm - after all he couldn't "shrug" her off, he'd been shot. But just to be clear, BOTH those reactions were reflexes for him still. Just what reflex reaction he used in each scenario was different.
