Bollywood divided: Big B praises Sena chief
Shiv Sena has threatened superstar Shah Rukh Khan and demanded an apology from him for his statements backing Pakistani cricketers.
But surprisingly many top Bollywood personalities have remained silent when it came to backing SRK.
Very few celebrities have voiced criticised Sena while Amitabh Bachchan seems to be singing paeans of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
Amitabh Bachchan's latest blog is full of praise for the Shiv Sena patriarch.
Big B even writes that Balasaheb has asked him to arrange a special screening of his latest movie Rann.
"He cannot travel out due to his frail condition. But the fire in him still burns. He is resolute and firm as ever. But in that resoluteness you discover something endearing. His sense of humor is intact as he punches in some wise ones !!" writes Amitabh about Thackeray.
Yesteryear's famous actor Shashi Kapoor's daugher Sanjana Kapoor has blamed prominent Mumbaikars like Amitabh and Karan Johar for buckling under pressure and not taking a stand against the Sena
"We have let Mumbai down. The Marathi cause is a non-issue," said Sanjana.
Another prominent Mumbai resident Alyque Padamsee demanded that the Prime Minister and President take a stand on the issue.
"I want the President and the Prime Minister to come up with a statement who Mumbai belongs to. As a party leader has said does it belong to Maharashtrians or is it for one and all?" asked Padamsee.
"Tough stand has to be taken against parties and regional parties who propagate only religion and language in a state. We have lots to do in Mumbai, lots of issues to be addressed. If we are dividing people with regional and caste we are going back 100 years. This is just an option of a party that is gearing up for coming elections and these are the issues that they are going to bring up," said Congress' Mumbai North-Central MP Priya Dutt.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena on Wednesday issued another open threat to SRK with Sena leader Sanjay Raut warning the actor that he must remember that his house was in Mumbai and not in Pakistan/
"They are speaking in favour of Pakistan sitting in Mumbai and in this country. We will not let this happen. This is Congress' opinion that Shah Rukh is voicing. Shah Rukh stays in Mumbai and Mannat (his residence) is also in Mumbai, not Pakistan," said Raut.
